I guess I've just got to go with what I got!by dne202 - Café LA - X Export 7d Footage after Sync without a loss - 12 years agoOkay, I know I'm asking too much here, but I've just got to ask. Is there any way to export 7d h264 footage from FCPX without recompressing or transcoding it? Here's what I'm trying to do. I bring in h264 footage from my 7d and then sync it with my other audio sources. What I'd love to do when I'm finished with that is export all that footage in a single quicktime file. I don't want to traby dne202 - Café LA - X Any way to get FCPX to recognize a network drive with a Project and Event Library? - 12 years agoI'm trying to get FCPX to use project and event libraries on a drive that's on another computer. Is there any way to get Lion to recognize a drive shared over the network from another apple? When I plug in a usb stick, FCPX recognizes that, but not when I mount a network volume. I'm wondering if there is a way around this either in Lion or FCPX.by dne202 - Café LA - X Re: Thinking of building an FCPX editing room, looking for advice. - 12 years agoThanks, Jon! Glad to know it can be done. You don't happen to know of a video or article on the web that explains your kind of setup, do you? Your feedback is much appreciated.by dne202 - Café LA - X Re: Thinking of building an FCPX editing room, looking for advice. - 12 years agoI hear what you're saying... but what is most important is that, when I leave in a few months, someone who is not an editor, or even a "computer person" will be taking over. I need this to be basic enough that I can pass it to someone with a tutorial and they can learn how to be doing simple cuts in a day. They aren't going to learn After Effects. If we need After Effects for a freelby dne202 - Café LA - X Re: Thinking of building an FCPX editing room, looking for advice. - 12 years agoI was thinking that. Only thing is they don't have someone who can use after effects or most of those encoders. I think it's also a pretty big price difference. I really only think they need something a little better than imovie. We're not cutting features. I just wonder if it's a nightmare to share media and projects with the method I outlined above... really what I'd love is to use Lightwby dne202 - Café LA - X Thinking of building an FCPX editing room, looking for advice. - 12 years agoI'm helping build an edit bay for a non-profit. We'll have 3 computers, all running the same NLE. We'll have a giant pool of media. And we'd like for people to be able to copy that media onto a personal drive and then cut it. It would also be great if they could move from computer to computer with their projects. Using FCPX would be helpful as it would be the cheapest option (remember, we'reby dne202 - Café LA - X Re: Codec to send footage over the Internet - 12 years agoOkay, so I've got I've kicked this can a little bit farther down the road. We did a project where we compressed (in compressor) ProResHQ 1080p24 footage down to an H264 25% of source size, with the quality half way between low and medium. That gives you around 810 mb per hour of footage. We ended up just doing Audio pass through, by the way. Footage renders in doubletime on my machine, whichby dne202 - Café LA Re: Codec to send footage over the Internet - 12 years agoYeah, I'll make the droplet for sure. For the reason of motion attributes you were saying I will probably make it scale back up to 1080 even though it'll be blocky. Thanks for the input!by dne202 - Café LA Re: Codec to send footage over the Internet - 12 years agoYeah, you're probably right. I wanted to make it as simple as possible for the person on the downloading end, but I just think there's no way around having to re-compress it back on their end.by dne202 - Café LA Codec to send footage over the Internet - 12 years agoI'm starting a new workflow where I'm shooting abroad and want to be able to upload footage to an FTP, whereupon someone in the US can download and cut it... then send the project file back to me for relinking. Since the HD online footage is far too large, I was considering making an offline compression of the footage. I'm looking to make a compressor preset that's 1 gigabyte for an hour of fooby dne202 - Café LA Some stuff - 17 years agoI'd love to be able to import OMF files from audio projects into my timeline. Or at least have some kind of OMF to XML translator. I'd also LOVE to be able to drop stickies on my timeline. I know markers kind of accomplish this, but it would be great to drop a sticky on timelines with 15 tracks. A revision mode would be nice. I don't know exactly how to execute that kind of request, butby dne202 - FCP Feature Requests Re: Faster way to make TC Burn? - 15 years agoWow, I've been in the exact same dilemma. Only I'm working in a 23.98 DV sequence. I've got to make different renders with individual burn in for Sound, Music and DI on a feature. I'm giving them footage burn, 24fps timecode burn and 30 NDF burn. The only way I figured how to do it was to create a 29.97 DV file, 22 minutes long (reel length) with all the counters... then crop it. Then I dropby dne202 - Café LA Can I slide a master clip in the Viewer? - 15 years agoSo the telecine house I'm currently dealing with is giving us footage where the sound is slightly out of sync with the visual of the clap (a few frames early, a few frames late..) Before I go and shout their ears off, is there a simple way for me to do this in FCP? The only way I'm aware of is to drag the clip into the timeline and shift the audio, then link the audio and video back together anby dne202 - Café LA Re: Blank Reconnect clips - 15 years agoI got it to work by having the previous editor resend me the final cut project file. Could it have somehow been corrupted? what is behind this error? Yes the files were offline according to Final cut, but I couldn't relink them because they were blank.by dne202 - Café LA Blank Reconnect clips - 15 years agoI just got a project from a digitizing place and when I went to reconnect the clips, the reconnect dialogue box prompted me to reconnect a bunch of clips with no file name and no directory name. What gives? I've had this problem before, but could always work around it. In this particular project, however... workarounds are not an option. Final Cut only seems to be able to export a cut list with the exact keycode of where the cuts are supposed to be. There is an option to put handles in the dialog, but it only seems to be with transitions. How do I create a cut list which has 32 frame handles on the keycode for each cut? danby dne202 - Café LA Cinema Tools Sort by film standard - 16 years agoJust got a request from the negative cutter asking to separate my Cut lists by film standard (35 3 perf vs. 4 perf vs 16mm). Is there any way to get more columns in the list view for sorting purposes? I'd love to be able to sort by film standard. When we got our telecine done, we got a stereo mix on our tapes, but we want to sync the video to our 4 channel master audio instead. Everything has been digitized already. I noticed that in our cinema tools database, cinema tools keeps track of the audio tby dne202 - Café LA Re: HDSDI vs FIREWIRE - 16 years agoHaven't heard back from the from the engineer yet, but I did capture the same frame via SDI and Firewire. I actually did the same section of firewire twice. I noticed that the two firewire captures were identical when zoomed in 800 percent. The HD-SDI was slightly different from the Firewire. I wouldn't call it a quality difference to be perfectly honest. In a blind test I wouldn't be able tby dne202 - Café LA The Debate continues - 16 years agoAlright, so I put a call in to the Panasonic Broadcast Customer support people. An engineer will call me tomorrow and hopefully they'll give me some sort of definitive answer that I'll post here. In response to your post, Shane, we are renting an AJ-1400 deck with both firewire AND HD-SDI, because our house deck only has HD-SDI. So, part of the reason I started this was to figure out a way to sby dne202 - Café LA Re: HDSDI vs FIREWIRE - 16 years agoBut, my tech argues is that the HDSDI signal becomes uncompressed to full on HD (albeit in digital form) when it goes out of the VTR. His argument for this is that monitors don't have a way to uncompress DVCPRO footage, and since you can plug the HDSDI cable into a monitor... it must be a standard uncompressed, no-codec signal. Therefore, when that uncompressed signal goes back into the AJA carby dne202 - Café LA HDSDI vs FIREWIRE - 16 years agoI'm digitizing from a panasonic 1400 DVCPRO HD 720p24. I've been told that the HDSDI capture method I'm using is lower quality than firewire. I called AJA video and they said that HDSDI is the exact same quality as firewire. How can that be? Is that true? I'd rather use HDSDI so I can return the deck and use one we don't have to rent. Danby dne202 - Café LA DVCPRO HD 720p23.98 - 16 years agoSo I'm digitizing from a Panasonic HD1400 on FCP 6.0.1 I'm using the DVCPRO HD 720p23.98 easy setup, and the tapes were recorded in 23.98. Here's where the weirdness starts, though. The only way I can get the deck to work is to set the system frequency to 59.94, and set the easy setup in FCP to 720p23.98. When I digitize my footage, it comes in clear and smooth. I look at the clip informatby dne202 - Café LA Re: 23.98 vs 24 - 17 years agoI see, thanks for the explanaition, I'm pretty sure I can now make sense of the problem I am in. The sequence we did our edit in was at 24fps, not 23.98... and the sound was recorded at 24fps as well. So, when I get back these HDCam tapes at 23.98, I'm going to have a sync problem with my mixed 24fps audio mix. Can I use CinemaTools to conform these HD clips to true 24 when I redigitize them?by dne202 - Café LA 23.98 vs 24 - 17 years agoHi, I'm looking for a little advice on our post production workflow. We shot a 35mm film and got the transfers done in 24@25 PAL since we were abroad and that was all we could get. We then used the 24@25 easy setup to slow the PAL down and create 24p sequences. Now, however, we are getting our color corrected re-transfers done at 23.98 to HDCam. 23.98 is not 24p, correct? Does partitioning effect the performance?by dne202 - Café LA Re: How bad is partitioning? - 17 years agoThat's what I have been doing, the problem being that there tend to be MANY subfolders. So even though I chose to reconnect all the other files in the file path, it tends to take a long time because I have many file paths. Dan P.S. This is why I use as few subfolders as possible when working on my own projects.by dne202 - Café LA How bad is partitioning? - 17 years agoSo, I've been trying for a while to figure out a way to back up all the data from several smaller firewire drives onto one larger backup drive. My goal is to be able to create a different volumes on the backup drive... then copy the contents of each of the smaller drives onto a volume of the same name on the larger drive. So if I had an external drive A and external drive B, I could just copy tby dne202 - Café LA |
