Good to know, I've heard a lot of horror stories about Drobo, but people are saying the 5D is a different machine. Also considering the Pegasus R4 or J6, just wish I could use the drives I have instead of buying it with them. Pegasus seem to be the fastest plug and play array out there. Anyone use the Areca ARC 8050 ? Looks like a reasonable option but can't find a lot of real world users thaby pbovee - Café LA - X

Definitely leaning towards the iMacs, but will have them decked out with 32gb of RAM and the best graphics card they offer. I've been looking all day at external storage solutions. The Promise Tech. Pegasus looks like a decent unit, I just wish I could utilize all the 4tb drives I already have instead buying what they come with. Now looking into Areca Arc - 8050 8 bay units. Thanks for the input ClayC. I'd like to keep all options open but I don't think I can abandon the Mac platform, they just work too good too easily. I'm also torn on waiting for the new Mac Pro but we would really like to upgrade before moving on to some big projects this fall, so how long do we wait? A week, 2 months? who knows. After a lot of deliberation and procrastinating, we've decided to upgrade our antique (2006) Mac Pros and FCP7. After some research I've come to believe that Premiere Pro is the way to go for us and despite the great debate over Creative Cloud, I think we'll cross our fingers and jump on board. 3 out of 5 systems are now having this problem here all the same versions I mentioned above. The most recent one started right after the latest pro app update. Maybe thats the root of the problem. Either way I'll probly be trained to highlight gap and delete by time the issue is resolved.by pbovee - Café LA

Same problem on FCP 7.0.2, close gap was working on this same project, same sequence previously, all of the sudden it's not working. This project is NOT updated from an earlier version. Tried trashing prefs but it didn't solve the issue. I have tracked it down to being only sequences with multiple tracks of video, A sequence with video on only one track the "close gap" works just fineby pbovee - Café LA

It is 8bit RGB is that right? When I import into FCP the part that should be transparent is white, but open that same file in PS and its transparent.by pbovee - Café LA

What's the best format to use when creating images in Photoshop for use in FCP with transparency. .psd seems to work fine but I'd rather not have it as a sequence.by pbovee - Café LA

Making the upgrade from primarily DV production to HDV. Currently our systems are like this. Mac Pro 2.6 dual core Intel Xeon 2gb RAM 3-500gig Seagate Internal drives Too Many Firewire externals OS 10.4.11 FCP Studio 1 Sony HDV firewire deck JVC SD Broadcast Monitor So from the research we've done so far this is what we're thinking. Yes, I have tried unrendered as well as rendered. I have created basically what I use as a template in FCP using slugs,shapes and some .psd files. Now I want to save all these layers as one transparent still. Since I used slugs and shapes there is no source file. Is that right? I know this was probably not the ideal way of going about this but it's what I have and I'm trying to simplify it.by pbovee - Café LA

I'm trying to export still image from FCP with a transparent background to store and use later in FCP. I'm trying to do exactly what grafixjoe described above but I'm obviously doing something wrong because I bring it back into FCP and its not transparent. Must be overlooking something, all the sudden my clips that I'm capturing using Capture now aren't appearing in my browser at all. Logging Bin is set. Files are on scratch disk. Is there a setting I'm missing?by pbovee - Café LA

Opening a .fcp Movie sent via email - 15 years ago
Hi Folks, Looking to open a .fcp movie file that was uploaded to my FTP site, problem is...it won't open. It's a 30 sec. spot that is 110mb. It was exported to "Quicktime Movie" and the "make movie self-contained" was checked. After I downloaded it and moved it from my PC...YUK!, it was labeled as a Unix Executable file. I changed the extension to .fcp...but it still dby pbovee - Café LA

I'm currently using Motion 2, It seems the behavior I'm looking for, SHAPE>WRITE ON is not included in Motion 2 but is in three. Is there any way to add new behaviors. Or take behaviors from a system that has Motion 3?by pbovee - Motion

Hi there Kids, Looking for the third Party Company that has the cool 35mm squiggly lines and numbers clip transitions that have been pretty popular lately. I'm looking for a small CRT to inexpensively complete my home studio. I would like to hook it it to my mini DV deck mainly to check for flickers and preview video from FCP. Also hooked to DVD player to preview finished projects. 20" or under, component in, switchable aspect ratio 4:3 to 16:9, Looking to spend $200 to $400. The best I've found so far is a Toshiba 20 AF46 ($199). I'd appreciatby pbovee - Café LA
