thanks, stefanby stefangs - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: time remapping 101 - 11 years agowow, thanks for the step-by-step instructions. i'll try be sure to that! stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: weird error - 11 years agoin talking to my client, i found out that the material was rendered 50p because his impression is that this looks best on youtube for some reason. i don't know if that's true or not. i also don't know what his original source format is, but that probably doesn't matter. is it possible that FCP 6.0.6 which i use does not support prores 50p, since that's a fairly recent format? quicktime plays the file just fine. it's definitely not protected, since it's a client-customer scenario. settings are (according to quicktime info panel): source file: AVC coding, 1280x720, millions AAC stereo, 48K FPS 50 converted file: ProRes, 1280x720 16 bit integer, 48K, little endian FPS 50 now that i look at these figures, i wonder why the helby stefangs - Café LA weird error - 11 years agoi need to cut out a section of a movie i received via email. it's an mp4 something. because editing that directly in fcp expectedly didn't go over so well, i opened the clip in quicktime (plays fine) and exported it using Prores and uncompressed audio. the export converted copy also plays fine in quicktime. when i drag that into fcp, i get an error 'Unknown file'. dragging into the browser/timby stefangs - Café LA Re: wav files skipping - 11 years agoare you using an external audio interface? it might be set to a different sample rate. stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: wav files skipping - 11 years agoTroyChristian Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > been a giant project trying to convert > everything from stills and mpeg2 and H.264, DV etc > etc in an effort to get this thing to play nice > ... that may be the problem right there. try to reduce the number of formats! stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: time remapping 101 - 11 years agojoey, you may well be right, but i wasn't so concerned about the quality of the remap tool as about its usability. of course, you may have been referring to this also. since video editing is not my bread and butter job, twixtor is out of range for me. i wouldn't think twice about buying something in this price range for audio, however stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: time remapping 101 - 11 years agook thanks for the insights. i have motion3 and while i've never really got into it, i probably just go with the constant change for now, just to be done. derek, the point of 'misusing' an editor as an effects program is well taken. fcp just seems to cross these boundaries on several ends so that's an easy misconception to make. stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: time remapping 101 - 11 years agook. well that's not quite the same, of course. do i gather from your post that dynamic tempo changes are better left alone because they are simply a messy affair/better left for pros/buggy...? stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: time remapping 101 - 11 years agoderekmok Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Cut the clip into two pieces and then do a regular > speed change on the second clip. what is a regular speed change - do you mean constant? stefanby stefangs - Café LA time remapping 101 - 11 years agoamazingly enough, searching for 'time remap' yields exactly 1 hit, in the FCPX department, so here i go: i have a clip that i would like to slow down quite a bit at the very end. in the motion parameters, i set the clip to variable time and the clip gets all messed up. in the manual i see that the overall duration needs to stay the same, so if i slow down in one part, it speeds up somewhere elby stefangs - Café LA Re: hold option to duplicate - 11 years agoTom Wolsky Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It's very Mac like. It's one way to duplicate a > file at the Finder level. nope... if you let go of option before letting go of the file, you move the file. it's just like never touching option at all. stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: hold option to duplicate - 11 years agoah, yes. i now tried this rather un-macish behaviour and got it to work. very tricky. first i didn't understand why i can't shuffle now. but it depends whether you hold option *before* you select the clip or not. it's a world of option(s) out there! thanks, stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: hold option to duplicate - 11 years agoyes, i realize that. but you can't plonk down a clip while holding option. so my highly intuitive workaround is to shift-opt-z to zoom out, then option-drag the clip past the end of the sequence where it can't mess anything up, THEN plonk it down where i want it. funny that there seems to be little enough interest to add a modifier key solution for a simple 'dupe-plonk here'. at least i get toby stefangs - Café LA Re: pond ripple effect - 11 years ago@jude: just wanted to let you know that i tried your suggestion today and it worked beautifully! i duplicated the circle mask to the other clip and inverted that which made it even better! thanks again, stefanby stefangs - Café LA hold option to duplicate - 11 years agoi find holding down the option key the most straight forward way to quickly duplicate a clip. the only thing that gets me is that it always shifts everything on the timeline to the right, even if i drag to a different track that's empty. there must be a key combination that defeats this behaviour! anyone know how? thanks, stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: Getting rid of hiss on a clip - 11 years agonot sure what a lapel mic is, but boosting 20db might certainly add hiss. if you stick a mono mic into a stereo jack, you should either wire a proper connector or use an adapter, otherwise you might short out one channel to ground. unfortunately, i can't give you any X-related tips as i'm an fcp kinda guy. stefanby stefangs - Café LA - X Re: Getting rid of hiss on a clip - 11 years agoi second what harry323 says - be careful not to overdo it. it's easy to go blind by paying attention to how wonderful the vanishing noise is whilst ignoring the fact that your signal is gradually being destroyed. for the record, in response to your original post, i want to add that recording in mono does not result in poor quality and low volume any more than it does in stereo if you have theby stefangs - Café LA - X Re: pond ripple effect - 11 years agoyes, it's highly tuneable and keyframable (also a nice word). but AFAICT you can't animate it so the effect dynamically starts in the center and then ripples outwards. you can only dynamically make it softare or stronger entirely. the inertia part is missing, it seems... stefanby stefangs - Café LA pond ripple effect - 11 years agohi all, i'm trying to add a pond ripple effect to a clip. perhaps i'm not understanding it properly, but it should have some initial action in the center and then progress smoothly outwards. right now, with or without keyframes, the entire width of the ripplies start all at once which looks pretty artificial. can this be done with the supplied FCP pond ripple effect? thanks, stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: Projecter film look in FCP - 12 years agois 'bad film' a fcp7 plugin? i can only find 'bad tv' on my version which does something else and i could use a bad film right now too! stefanby stefangs - Café LA annoying trim edit window position - 12 years agodon't know if it's always been that way, but my trim edit window always opens halfway off to the side of my monitor. every time i open the window i need to drag it into position. i also tried a custom window layout and that didn't work either. sometimes calling up that preset actually closes the window, sometimes it does not do anything at all. any idea what's going on? thanks, stefanby stefangs - Café LA |
