It's too hot to think anymore....by qeditor - Café LA Re: FCP 6.1 is out - 16 years agouh, I meant 6.0.1. And Color, Compressor and Motion have updates, too. In for a penny, in for a pound...by qeditor - Café LA FCP 6.1 is out - 16 years ago...and since my biz has slowed down and I am between projects, I'll be the guinea pig for Apple and test it with latest OS X & QT. Light a candle for me!by qeditor - Café LA Re: Legalities: One on the desktop, one on the laptop? - 16 years agoSLA is Software License Agreement. EULA is End User License Agreement. BTW, I'll need that ASAP on the QT PDQ for a CYA stat. With this much jargon, I could be a lawyer!by qeditor - Café LA Re: OT how do you come up with ideas for what music to use? - 16 years agoThe only problem with Digital Juice is their stuff is VERY identifiable (at least to me - I can pick a DJ riff out of a promo or commercial every time) Good production music libraries are expensive - the one thing DJ has going for it (so far as cost-saving) is StackTraxx: You can custo the song as you like, helping make it more you and less them. and they are having a sale, as Nick sby qeditor - Café LA Re: Beta deck weirdness after 5.1.4 upgrade - 17 years agoI'll give it a shot! Thanks.by qeditor - Café LA Beta deck weirdness after 5.1.4 upgrade - 17 years agoBefore I did the 5.1.4 upgrade, my system was rock solid, i.e. capturing clips showed a black screen until the clip in point was reached. Now, my Beta SP PVW 2800 goes into a feedback loop when it begins to search for clips in Log and Capture mode (when the heads drop on the deck, the audio howls into the red unless I mute the thing and the monitor shows a color feedback like a bad acid trip)by qeditor - Café LA Re: OT - "i've been robbed" a vote for insurance! - 17 years agoHaving equipment insurance these days is not an option, but a requirement. This is a tip I got from our neighborhood police officer: there is one extremely low cost item that can deter the casual "smash and grab" thief (other than a large barking dog) - alarm window stickers and/or lawn signs. You don't have to have an actual alarm, either, there are plenty of places on the web that selby qeditor - Café LA Re: drive doesn't appear - 17 years agoI have an ACCOM external FW drive that occasionally does not show up on the desktop of my Pro Tools iMac setup. I take it to my FCP G5 setup and let it mount there, then put it back on the iMac - and it mounts. Disk Warrior et. al. is great, but try just swapping it to a different Mac if you can easily do so - it works for me. Good luck.by qeditor - Café LA Re: re: Client claims no audio heard on DVD played on her PCs - 17 years agoHave her check her Control Panels and make sure the Audio is "On" and up all the way. I had a client who drove us nuts once, insisting that there was no audio on the Quicktime we gave her...she had the audio turned off.by qeditor - DVD Studio Pro Found it! - 17 years agoA new Pioneer DVR 111 internal costs $40 and is exactly what I needed. My current 1.8 Ghz G5 has a single layer DVD burner, and this replacement saved me $3K on a new Intel Core Duo. Merry Krimble to all!by qeditor - Café LA What external dual layer DVD burners work with PPC G5? - 17 years agoMy client has now expanded a 4.1 G DVD to over 6 G, so I need to know from anyone what external DVD dual layer burners work - I can't spring the $$ for an Intel Mac until March, and naturally they want this done yesterday. I did the original in DVDSP and would like to stay in that program. Thanks!by qeditor - Café LA Re: Not a rant, not a request, just an observation - 17 years ago<which may mean more development of the post side of things> ...which brings us back full circle to my original point. The software is so far behind the hardware its to the point of distraction, as well as making all of us who are damn fast at editing look like idiots trapped in quicksand when we can't output the program to tape "like you used to" (a direct quote from my clientby qeditor - Café LA Not a rant, not a request, just an observation - 17 years agoOK, I just returned from a five day onsite edit for a client's convention, editing candids, sots and clips for playback each day, all of which was shot entirely on Sony HDV. My first real intro to this format, BTW. First, a special thanks to Jerry Hoffman (and this forum) for helpful tips on outputting...saved my butt and that's no lie. Now the observation: The software is about a year bby qeditor - Café LA Re: Avid 101 class - 17 years agoWell there is at least one similarity between Avid and FCP - the built in Title Tool (Text in FCP) pretty much sucks. When I latched on to FCP 1.2.5, my knowledge of Boris that I had learned on an Composer came in handy. I have also taight both Avid and FCP - Both platforms have strengths and weaknesses - but knowing how to edit on both helps me to not turn away $$$, and these days, that's a gby qeditor - Café LA Re: OT: Sole proprietor vs incorporating - 17 years agoLEGAL DISCLAIMER: First, this is not legal or tax advice. You should consult an attornery or CPA based on your own circumstances...blah, blah, blah. The main advantage to incorporating is, as George Harrison so eloquently put it... "THE TAXMAN!" Uncle Creepy is your partner throughout this life, and when you kick he's first in line with his hand out - in fact, he's first in line ALby qeditor - Café LA video freezes on transition - 17 years agoLatest ver. of Motion on a G5 1.8 Ghz with Tiger 10.4.7 - using the "Curves" transition. Here's the deal - Two clips exported from FCP - the video going OUT (Clip A) into the trans works fine but the video coming IN (Clip B) to the transition freezes after a few frames, although I am using the default duration of the transition. It seems to have enough clip length on Clip B (about 3by qeditor - Motion Re: IDVD Freezing Up - 17 years agoJust a suggestion, but try using "save AS Disk Image" from iDVD. Once you have done this, double click on the disk image "name.img" to launch it - close the Video TS window, then launch Disk Utility. Select you "name.img" from the list of disks avialable and then select "Burn" from the "Images". You will get a window with burn rates and DU will aby qeditor - Café LA Re: Flix Exporter Error - 17 years agoHi Jude, Yes, I upgraded both QT and Compressor (although I don't use Compressor as a rule - I figured it might have a codec that Exporter needs) Is this a standalone app that must be purchased?by qeditor - Café LA Flix Exporter Error - 17 years agoHas anyone encountered this? I just upgraded to 5.1.1 and now get this message when I try to export either a SWF or FLV: "Wildform Flix Exporter Error. Wildform Flix Exporter has encountered a problem. This version of Flix Exporter is not licensed to run under the current application". What up with that?by qeditor - Café LA Re: Shifting Pixels in FCP slide Show - 17 years agoHave you tried using the Reduce Interlace Flicker filter in FCP?by qeditor - Café LA Re: import VOB files with the sound - 17 years agoMPEG Streamclip is free - the options for importing are numerous, but require some playing with to pick the right one. But it is a GREAT program and works like a charm - you will get your audio with the VOB with no trouble (in my experience).by qeditor - Café LA Re: OT: What NOT to do with FCP - 17 years agoActually, I visited their website out of curiousity, and the school doesn't look all that weird. And it made me check them out, so it worked! Maybe it was "Spinal Tap" for ASU on purpose?by qeditor - Café LA Re: Feedback corporate video - 17 years agoHi Aaron, The one element that is missing from your video is the most important, i.e. emotion. You should read Walter Murch's "In the Blink of an Eye", which I required all my first year editing students to get. Emotion drives story which drives visuals which drives audio which drives emotion, etc. And how do you display the emotion of the story? "Socks. baby! Austin Powers goesby qeditor - Café LA Re: Basic audio boosting crisis - 17 years agoYou can also raise the clip audio by itself, then do an Audio Mixdown and raise it yet again...but this will also increase ambient noise. BTW Derek's suggestion about ADR is a good one - I would take it into ProTools and fix it there, but this may not be an option for you.by qeditor - Café LA Re: OT: What NOT to do with FCP - 17 years ago<You guys are a bunch of snobs.> On the contrary, I have spent most of my professional career steering newbies AWAY from editing this kind of crap...oh wait, you're right! I AM a snob! Seriously, this "video" is gawdawful, and deserves to pummelled with a rusty hammer until it's dead, dead, dead.by qeditor - Café LA Re: OT: What NOT to do with FCP - 17 years agoPlease...make the bad man stop. I had first year video students who did better work than this stuff... Yikes.by qeditor - Café LA Re: Audio Interface for XLR mics - 17 years agoGet the M-Box, you'll love it and working with Pro Tools just adds to the cool factor. Any editor worth his salt can run Pro Tools right out of the box (it is, after all, an NLE) I started with one into FCP, then went to a standalone system running PT LE and a Digirack 002 and Command 8.by qeditor - Café LA Re: won't render - 17 years agoThis bites me every now and then - when it happens to me, I have zoomed in to the Timeline and somewhere there I have set either an In, Out, or both. Just a thought...by qeditor - Café LA |
