It cost $300+ less than the refurbished Cinema Display online at the Apple Store (with a one year warranty) versus the new Dell with a 3 year warranty. The screen is AWESOME - I love it already. So unless your Acer is hundreds less than a Cinema Display, I'd go with the Dell - the specs are virtually the same. Heck, I think I'm gonna buy another one...by qeditor - Café LA Re: importing powerpoint - 17 years agoIn my experience you'll have to save the Powerpoint slides out of Powerpoint as JPEGS, TIFF or PICT images and import them that way - FCP won't see PPT slides. It's not a big deal - but you will need Microsoft Office or Powerpoint as a standalone app to do it.by qeditor - Café LA Re: USB external drives - 17 years ago<The USB is faster than firewire 400, so it's better> Uh, no... "USB 2.0 is much slower than FireWire 400 and 800." USB is way to slow for video data rates.by qeditor - Café LA Re: merge 2 video tracks into one track - 17 years agoYes, its called nesting. Select the video clips you want to nest, go to "Seqeuence" and select "Nest items" - follow the prompts and you're good to go.by qeditor - Café LA Re: OT: FCP and Sony DVD Direct burner? - 17 years agoI use an AJA IO for most of my work, but I have successfully run the Firewire out of my G5 and into my GVD-1000 and then out to my Pioneer 223 external DVD recorder, and it works like a charm. It is a two stage process - you burn the disk and then you finalize it. A ten minute video will take an additional 4 minutes to finalize...WAY faster than the way I used to do it. Interestingly, the longerby qeditor - Café LA Re: fianl cut express??? - 17 years agoYes, I use HDv and DV, but only about 10% of the time, not 90%. The majority of what I edit uses HD, Digi Beta and Beta SP as sources. Just to be clear, I am not knocking what Kevin wrote - it sparked my curiosity as to what others on this user group edit with the majority of the time - since many of you are located in LA (I am in Phoenix) and therefore it would make sense that you guys collectiby qeditor - Café LA Re: fianl cut express??? - 17 years ago"which is 90% of the market anyway".... Which market would that be, I wonder? Certainly not mine (broadcast, corporate, industrial, infomercial and short film) How about the rest of you folks? Just asking!by qeditor - Café LA Re: burning a 5,6gb vid on a 4,7 dvd - 17 years ago"or you could just go buy an external dual layer burner for under $300 and save yourself a lot of headache..." Which was my other suggestion...by qeditor - Café LA Re: burning a 5,6gb vid on a 4,7 dvd - 17 years agoHave you tried exporting it as "Current settings" and de-selecting "Make self-contained"? This makes an FCP reference file which should show up as smaller than 1 GB (even if your footage was uncompressed). You can also try what I finally did, and that was to buy the Pioneer DVR-233 (they are available for about $165) and burn your DVD's in realtime, directly off the system. Nby qeditor - Café LA Re: IMPORTING MUSIC FROM ITUNES - 18 years agoBurn the CD in iTunes, then drag the AIFF file from the burned disk to a hard drive in your system, then import to FCP. I do this and it works every time.by qeditor - Café LA Re: What to get for editing on-site candids - 18 years agoI use (and have used for several years) a 17" iMac G5 all-in-one, an Accomdata FW drive, a DSR-45 and as a backup, my GVD-1000. Never a problem, fits in one case (that I bought from Fry's) and the company I do the candid's for reimburses me for the airline charge for the case (typically $80 each way). I am currently running FCS on the iMac and upgraded the RAM to 2 Gigs. Since they rent theby qeditor - Café LA Re: OT Serious iTunes Problem?!?! - 18 years agoTry this link: My experience is that if the problem can be replicated, somebody else has seen it and may have a fix.by qeditor - Café LA Re: OT Serious iTunes Problem?!?! - 18 years agoNot to be weird, but you should probably just go to Apple's website, click on "Support" and do a search for iTunes discussion/Windows for iTunes. Good luck!by qeditor - Café LA Re: OT: Spam in the Cafe - 18 years agoOK, I registered and now must change my user name to my real name...hope it works!by qeditor - Café LA |
