Vastly underrated for quick review-approval discs, with nice precanned themes for 4:3 and 16:9, or import your own backgorund for the menu. If you encounter an O with a diagonal line through it, it's a numeral, not a letter. Caught me a couple times, I recall. Also, letter B can look like numeral 8. - Loren Today's FCP keytip: Set a motion effect keyframe instantly with Control-K! Numeric keypad control of timecode plus-minus values seems to be disabled, although I've confirmed it's mapped. QuicKeys is currently nonfunctioning so I can't map it that way. Added note: Mavericks appears to disable the numeric keypad entirely! Have you confirmed your FCP7 actually has access to the specific codec? When I wonder about a missing codec, sometimes I can confirm the problem by pretending to export a loaded MOV from QuickTime Pro 7.x and go in and look under the various Export>Settings for codecs. Normally there is a large list. - Loren Tby Loren Miller - Café LA Re: Old school Audio ? - 10 years agoFrom the sound of it, your problem is your recording device-- assuming it's connected via FireWire, you need to set your input not to camera but to VCR mode-- or whatever mode exists that isn;t "camera" or "photo" mode. Then listen for audio signal either through the camera headphone jack or built-in speaker-- and see if you get a video image on the camera LCD. Then you'reby Loren Miller - Café LA Re: OT: which MacPro to buy for $500 - 10 years agoI would try to get at least a 2008 Mac Pro, that's supported by Mavericks, according to Apple. MicroCenter was offering some of those aorund the US for 700.00, I think they went quickly. But others will be offering refurbs or even originals. - Loren Today's FCP keytip: Set a motion effect keyframe instantly with Control-K! Your Final Cut Studio KeyGuide™ Power Pack.by Loren Miller - Café LA Re: OSX Mavericks + FCP 7? - 10 years agoGood call, Andrew! I never use the drive vendor's stuff-- haven't seen any advantage to using it. I always format through Disc Utility, which gives useful choices in format on any drive. Ben, Tom, this test is a one hour DV25 sequence. Haven't loaded an HD project yet, but newest footage for this project is 1080i so I'll simulate a sequence export. Ben, thank you for the plugin list!by Loren Miller - Café LA Re: OSX Mavericks + FCP 7? - 10 years agoHi, Tom - Export of a 46:00 project timeline appears to be smooth and without artifacts-- I'm testing a long form DV25 project- I will load in an HD project when time permits. Playback- In the QT 7.6.6 player (which works!) playback is smooth but I get a thin white right border in fullscreen mode. In the QT X 10.3 player, however, playback is perfect, no border, and a couple new featby Loren Miller - Café LA Re: OSX Mavericks + FCP 7? - 10 years agoAs I mentioned in the Jude Cotter RFD post here- Known Working FCP-OS Combinations FCP 7 appears to function in 10.9 Mavericks. The first contains XDCAM EX 1080i 60 and was easily copied into the clients hard drive. The second card contained a folder structure which did not open in FCP7 Log and Transfer and whose MP4's simply would not copy. Apparently the cameraman switched formats for what might be a longer shoot than the interview on card 1. Here's the folder sby Loren Miller - Café LA Re: keyboard shortcut "Show Multiclip Angles" - 10 years agoYes; he's changed it to "Splice Now" due to a trademark conflict, but he's still chugging along. It's a good blog. He cuts the "Jesse Stone" series with Tom Selleck, popular here in the US. So he's a working editor, I like that, plus he had an interest in Final Cut Pro, until it went insane. But the 10-bit YUV is another anvil on your CPU-- it increases the load exponentially-- I've seen my own 2009 8-core machine choke on 10-bit-- even single stream!
