Playin via firewire, use Off-line RT as your capture codec. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: XdCam Limitations and question re input - 17 years agoThat may work for G Inglis, in our case we average about 3500 HOURS of material per show... with at least of few shows active. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: XdCam Limitations and question re input - 17 years agoG Inglis, We've been using the IMX format since the begining... when it was on tape. Switched to the XD-CAM discs when they became available, but in standard def only. I agree with all of your points. I too was initially enamoured by the concept of "file based" ingest. Unfortunately, this simply doesn't work in the classic off-line/online scenario. Yes, it's a great format.by mark raudonis - Café LA Re: "READ the FAQ"???? - 17 years agoCount me in: Read the FAQ! Of course I would prefer to say RTFM... but THAT would be rude! Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Apple Buys "Final Touch" !!! - 17 years agoFilmman, "was somewhat disappointed when I realized that one can put a 35mm movie into FCP5 but not be able to get a 35mm movie out -- only a compressed SD version of the movie. It's like reducing a 16mm movie to Super 8." If this is your understanding of FCP workflow... yikes! You need to find someone to "coach" you. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: television workflow - 17 years agoSounds good. One suggestion. Since you're shooting HD and downconverting to SD, you have some latitude to "reframe" a shot. As you know, HD is 16 X 9, so instead of "center cutting" the down convert, you may want to letterbox it so that you can see the entire frame, allowing you to make framing decisions in off-line. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Desktop speakers recommendation needed. Veering OT - 17 years agoJude, According to my son, it's known as "the mosquito", and yes, it really does work. Kids use it in school where the "older" teachers have no clue as to what's going on! I doubt anyone would spend the money to advertise a non-existent product. But, I have to admit, when I first saw (Notice I didn't say "heard" the ad, I thought it was a spoof! This ringtoby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Desktop speakers recommendation needed. Veering OT - 17 years agoAlong those same lines, but at the opposite end of the spectrum.... have you seen that ad on TV for an "invisible" ring tone? You know, the one that your kids can hear, but if you're an old fart like me... you totally miss it? During the ad they "play" the tone. My kid laughs at me when I swear I can't hear it. (Too many rock concerts in my misspent youth!). Anyway,by mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Will FCP HD to PAL pass QC in Europe? - 17 years agoHarry, This has nothing to do with FCP. Whether you pass a QC report has more to do with how attentive you are to levels, not what the program can do. Do you have proper outboard vectorscopes? A hardware limiter? Are you doing a qc pass on your own? These are steps that most editors that are using FCP adhere to. As they say, "Garbage in, garbage out". Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Timecode Audio Signal - 17 years agomr. "budget", Your workflow is kerflucked! Sit down with someone who has done this and plan out how you're going from FCP to Mix and back. "TC's" suggestions are on point. It sounds like you're trying to reinvent the wheel. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: X serve raid swap drives - 17 years agoHmmmm.... You're probably right. We have an X-SAN, and adding additional raids is no problem. Don't know 'bout trying to do it without the proper software. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: X serve raid swap drives - 17 years agoAn X-Serve Raid is not like the old SCSI systems where you could just pop a drive in and out. I believe that if you yanked all the drives out, when you installed your new set, the system would want to initialize everything as if they were brand new drives... not certain of this, but I think that's the case. I would NOT recommend this workflow. Why not buy an additional "chasis" aby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: OT: Explaining RAID to beginners - 17 years agoThat's funny! Now I understand! Markby mark raudonis - Café LA 5.12 @ Tomorrow's LAFCPUG meeting? - 17 years agoHey Michael, Will there be any special attention devoted to the new 5.12 release at tomorrow night's meeting? That is, of course, AFTER we discuss the PONY! markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: The Pony - FAQ - 17 years agoSorry... She's so small I couldn't tell ! Make her bigger. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: MUSIC CUES - 17 years agoLet me just put in a plug for "NON MUSIC" transitions. Sound design is an area that's often overlooked in the "scoring" of a project. Sometimes the solution is no music at all... just a great sound design that emphasizes the acoustical environment in which the characters live. Don't get me wrong... I love music. But if you can get the same emotional impact from a cool soby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: The Pony - FAQ - 17 years agoThe Pony needs a pasture to separate it from the ads. Maybe a fence will do the trick. I like the pony! Make him bigger! You got a f*@kin' problem with that? F*@k! Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: OT - Favorite TV Show Theme Intro - 17 years agoHow can you NOT mention "The Beverly Hillbillies"!!! "Now listen to my story 'bout a man named Jed... poor mountaineer barely kept his family fed... then one day while out shootin' food... out from the ground come a bublin' crude... oil that is... texas tea." That's why we get paid the big bucks! markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Timecode doesn't match master tapes - 17 years agoAs you've learned, there's not going to be an easy fix for this one. In order to correct the problem you're going to need to be able to track back to your "incorrect" dubs. My suggestion is to make a new "correct" series of dubs with WINDOW tc. THen, sync up your new "correct" dubs with your old "drifting" dubs using the multicam feature. You're goiby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: OT:QT 7.1.3 and Xsan - 17 years agoYep. cvfsck was run. My standard explanation for such a kerfuffle: Sunspots! Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: OT:QT 7.1.3 and Xsan - 17 years agoWe've been encountering very strange X-SAN behavior over the past two weeks. First we thought it was our upgrade to X-SAN 1.4. Then we thought it was a DNS issue. Then we thought our logging system, which is sharing the same network, was causing this. We're planning on separating the two networks on Monday. But now, I'm hearing that perhaps the latest version of iTunes is causing this bug.by mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Where can you rent 24 T Bytes for feature film conform? - 17 years agoUnless you have X-SAN, how do you plan on accessing this storage? <arkby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: what would a 422 capture do for me? - 17 years agoLet's not confuse RS-422 with 4:2:2 bit depth. One controls tape decks... the other defines bit depth (color resolution) of the digital format. markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Preview screen not letterboxing - 17 years agoDear "Z man", By "preview" screen, do you mean the full screen mode accessed by "F 12" or just the source side of your two window set up? If you mean the "full screen" mode, then yes, I've noticed the same problem. We recently changed to shooting SD with an anamorphic squeeze (16 X 9), and it looks correct on the "source" window, but whenby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Sharing a project file - 17 years agoThanks, Shane. Mark here. We use FCP and X-SAN (Apple's version of Unity). If you understand Unity, you can understand X-SAN. The biggest difference is that FCP is NOT project oriented like Avid. In fact, you can have MULTIPLE projects open simultaneously. With FCP you do NOT need to have a project to organize your media. In fact, the entire shared storage is essentially your project.by mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Reveal Master Clip does not work - 17 years agodear GwI, As Tom has indicated, "Reveal in browser" won't work if you media was not imported into the project which contains your timeline. All is not lost however. There is another feature called "reveal in finder" which will show you exactly where the clip lives at the "finder" level. Knowing that, you can then import that master clip into your project. Wby mark raudonis - Café LA |
