You are not going to get any better quality than the mini dv that was shot. Capturing mini dv via FW is the best quality you can get with your footage. This may help.by Frank Nolan - Café LA Re: Panasonic P2 question.... - 17 years agoTreat your MXF files as you would a master tape! Being that the MXF files take up the same amount of space as the QT files, you are going to need the same amount of storage space for a back up anyyway, so why not just keep the MXF files? That way if you ever need to use a different NLE you have the original files.by Frank Nolan - Café LA Re: P2 1080/24p bitrate - 17 years agoBenjamin Meyer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I FOUND A CHART THAT INCLUDES 1080/24p!!! DVCPro50 + 4 ch. audio = approx 16 min. DVCProHD + 4 ch. audio = approx 8 min. DVCProHD @ 720/24PN = approx 20 min. DVCProHD @ 720/30PN = approx 16 min. No,by Frank Nolan - Café LA Re: Monster problems misusing FCP - people, we must share - 17 years agoVic & Gene, You both seem to have missed a fundamental principle of the way a non-destructive NLE works. Whether it be a video or audio NLE, on your timeline you are working with CLIPS. Those clips are just a graphical reference to segments of Media FILES on your hard drive, they are NOT of themselves a media file. If you create large files, EVERY time you do something with a clby Frank Nolan - Café LA Re: Monster problems misusing FCP - people, we must share - 17 years agoAdvice can only be offered so many times. If you choose not to take that advice and do something that has been warned against, then you ultimately pay the price. It's like telling the kid over and over not to play with fire. Sometime it takes them getting burned before they realize it's a mistake.by Frank Nolan - Café LA Re: Are MP3 sound files good enough? - 17 years agoMp3's are very compressed. For voice it wouldn't be that noticable but I would ask him to burn some AIFF files, at 48khz/16bit, to a CD as data files (NOT an audio CD). That way you can drop them straight into FCP without having to render.by Frank Nolan - Café LA Re: Trying to squeeze every pixel out of HDV - 17 years agoYes, shoot on film Just kidding! People seem to be having better luck with HDV by converting it to DVCPro HD on capture into FCP. If you already have a sequence cut in HDV it might be worthwhile doing an "on line" as such with the final cut. Go back to the original tapes and re-import the required clips using a kona or Decklink card and capture as DVCPro HD.by Frank Nolan - Café LA Re: Converting 24p HD to 30fps standard def - 17 years agoI've had good results by making a reference QT movie of the 23.98 sequence. Then creating a new DV NTSC sequence and dropping the QT movie in it and rendering. Then make a self contained QT of that using current settings.by Frank Nolan - Café LA Re: MUSIC VIDEO, SNYC PLAYBACK, please help!! - 17 years agoActually there is a very simple answer to this problem as it has been done the same way for years. If you want to use the playback as a guide track for the telecine then 30ndf should be used, however it is the speed of the playback you need to be concerned with. When film is telecined to NTSC video it is slowed 0.1%. So what you need to do is use a CD player or DAT that can be sped up 0.1% for pby Frank Nolan - Café LA Re: 24 or 30 for audio workflow? - 17 years agoYour safest and best bet would be to have the dub house sync the audio with the picture during the dub to DVCProHD, then you would just import audio and video together.by Frank Nolan - Café LA Re: recording with two directional mic's problem - 17 years agoHow far was the camera from the actors and the other mic? Sound travels at a lot slower speed than light. The slight echo you hear is probably the difference in the sound reaching the mic placed near the actor compared to the time it took for the sound to reach the on camera mic. It is roughly 1 milli second for every foot of distance.by Frank Nolan - Café LA Re: HDLOG - 17 years agoI have the full blown GOLD version that I will sell you at a substantial discount. This would certainly help with the unstable video. It may also help with the audio playback on the VCR that you are hearing audio on.by Frank Nolan - Café LA Re: sound gear advice needed - 17 years agoAn ENG kit consisting of Sound Devices 302 or Shure FP33 mixer, 2 Lectrosonics wireless lav kits (200 or 400 series for adjustable frequency selection), Sennheiser MKH-60, Rycote Zeppelin and windjammer, K-Tek boom pole, headphones, breakaway cable, disposable batteries or NP1's with adapter for mixer and wireless receivers.by Frank Nolan - Café LA Re: HD footage w/TC on audio channel 2 - 17 years agoHere's an idea that may be useful. Being that you are transferring the footage to DVCAM at 29.97 and then capturing into FCP from that, you could get a hold of the HDD recorder that the audio was captured to (or a similar system) and treat it like a playback deck. Take the audio Ch.2 (TC out) from your DVCAM deck and send it to the TC input of the HDD recorder and put it in slave/chase mode.
