Los puertos suelen fallar.by Hauffen - Foro FinalCutPro Re: Daylight Saavings Time - 18 years agoFinally! Latest Spring ever in SoCal.by Hauffen - Café LA Re: Lacie nightmare number one - 18 years agoLaCie, again? Got lemons? Make lemonade. As John says, very likely you'll be able to salvage the hard-drive by installing as an internal.by Hauffen - Café LA Re: Hard Drive Disaster. - 18 years agoAs mentioned above: it's very likely that the HD enclosure went bad. I bet the HD itself is still good. Get an inexpensive FW enclosure (some for under $40, with Firewire and USB ports) and put in the hard drive; if the drive is bad, you can get a new one for much less than what the LaCie sells its over-rated drives. It's really easy and you'll save a bundle. Good luck! Albertoby Hauffen - Café LA Re: What Gaphics Card do I buy?? - 18 years agoJay, ATI also has the Radeon 9600 Pro, Mac G5 Edition. Check the specs here: Albertoby Hauffen - Café LA Re: input VHS video into Final Cut? - 18 years agoI like tha Canopus card for capturing VHS. But I'd rather buy a DV camera (from around $200); believe me, you'll soon want to do more than simply transfer your old VHS videos. Albertoby Hauffen - Café LA Re: USB External Hard Drive / capturing - 18 years agoIf you bought from a major chain, say Best Buy, Office Max, etc, and within 90 days, they very likely accept to exhange your drive for a FW. Just explain that you did not know it wouldn't work for what you need it for. Don't wait and give it a try. Good luck!by Hauffen - Café LA Re: OT: Concerning legal product use - 18 years agoI wouldn't worry about Canon trying to sue you for showing its unmistakably looking XL1. Even when their product is not specifically mentioned, every business would welcome the chance to have them on screen. I'd say, go ahead Mr. Malcolm.by Hauffen - Café LA Re: Setting up an old G4 - 18 years agoHe will need OS X, minimum in order to run FCP 4.5. Did you mean 400 Mhz processor? In that case, it's too slow to run FCP 4.5, and also for the newer versions of OS X. He would need at least 512 MB of RAM. Time to get a new Mac, sorry.by Hauffen - Café LA Re: Upgrading to FCP 4.5 from FCP Version 2.2 - 18 years agoI don't think you can jump from 2.2 to 4; there was a significant improvement in version 3 and up. And I think the same applies to the upgrade from 4 to 4.5, aka HD.by Hauffen - Café LA Re: automated transcribing - 18 years agoCheck this out about computer transcribing what goes through your computer:by Hauffen - Café LA Re: Andalisian Horses - 18 years ago"Believe me, if it isn't depicting King Phillip, no one will know the difference. It could be King Bob for all I care just as long as it looks like Spanish Nobility." Did you say: documentary, or mockumentary? If the first one, here's my rule number one: Don't ever underestimate the intellingence of your viewers. You'll hear from some of them. Watch out for Spaniards. And make sure yoby Hauffen - Café LA re: What's a good pro video store in L.A.? - 18 years agoWow! You sure are on top of things, Michael. There I was doublechecking the links, and there you are shooting the answer. Is this forum great or what?by Hauffen - Café LA re: What's a good pro video store in L.A.? - 18 years agoI'm afraid the closest thing to B&H that you can find in SoCal is Sammys Camera. As far as I know, nothing beats B&H in terms of variety and prices. For video equipment, you can also try Elite Video; they have a store in Burbank. I hope you find what you need there.by Hauffen - Café LA Re: OT: Katrina - 18 years agoBest wishes to all of you living along Katrina's path. Believe it or not, I know what it's like to be getting ready, waiting for hurricanes. I spent my teen years in the north-east tip of Mexico, just a few miles south of South Padre Island, Texas. Then about five years in Mazatlan, which is another usual target for cyclones (ciclones, as they are called there) in the Pacific Coast; I even acceptby Hauffen - Café LA Re: hard drive in my G4 - 18 years agoI agree. Check the diagram included with your new Maxtor (usually printed on the drive) to make sure you place the jumpers right. I too had used Matrox drives for a long time and they work as new. And as for being bad drives... well, Maxtors are as bad as a bad and expensive La Cie gone bad! In other words: lemons grow everywhere. But honestly, I've read more complaints about LaCie than about Maxby Hauffen - Café LA Re: New ATI card for MAC/PC 4x/8x with 256 MB DDR - 18 years agoI was hoping for something like that. Thanks, John! My Mac had been left out by the Suite (Motion). : (by Hauffen - Café LA Re: FCP Studio & Mac OS X - 18 years agoYes, 4.5 (FCP HD) does work on OS 10.4.2. But you'll lose your QuickTime Pro automatically when you install Tiger. You'l have to the new QT key. You'll still be able to use FCP w/o QT Pro. Now, for going to FCP Studio, check the specs of you Mac to make sure the video card is fast/powerful enough for Motion 2. Chances are that you might have to upgrade it.by Hauffen - Café LA Re: Finally, a Non-Frivolous Post! - 18 years agoWow, all those comments from you guys help to explain the fancy "Introducing Final Cut Studio" brochure that I got in today's mail. Panel 1: "9:15 A.M. -Edit in HD. No Waiting." It shows a state of the art FCP station, top-notch Apple and broadcast monitors. On the desk a to-go cup of coffee, and what seems to be a TV commercial in progress. Panel 2: "2:30 P.M.- Designby Hauffen - Café LA Re: wnat to upgrade to FCP5/Soundtrack Pro - 18 years agoOuuuch! Thanks a lot!by Hauffen - Café LA Re: wnat to upgrade to FCP5/Soundtrack Pro - 18 years agoMy Quicksilver 2002 Mac has the same specs. I'd like to know what can I reasonably expect from Motion 2 without having to upgrade the graphics card. And, if that's not enough, I'd like to know from users who've installed a newer card. Any recommendations? I'll appreciate your input. Albertoby Hauffen - Café LA Re: FCP Studio and MAC OS - 18 years agoJohn, Please share a little more about your upgrade to the Suite. Was it a clean install or you just let the installer do the upgrade. The info. that I've read from Apple says the installer will look for an older serial number on the Mac system. Was that your case or you had to use the Suite's own SN? Lastly, what happens to the old FCP/Sountrack/Compressor, etc.? Is it deleted/replaced automatby Hauffen - Café LA Re: Moving to FCP 5 - 18 years agoThanks, Wayne and Nick! I had no idea Compressor could cause trouble; I'll skip it and install it later. I'll also skip Cinema Tools to save disk space (I don't plan to use it). Albertoby Hauffen - Café LA Moving to FCP 5 - 18 years agoI guess I missed it. I've checked the Apple's FCP 5 site and others sources. And I can't find for sure the proper way to move to the FCP 5 Suite from older FCP versions. My Mac has been upgraded since FCP 1.2.5 to FCP HD's current version. I a few days I'm getting the Suite. Should I dump everything FCP from my OS folders and start anew? Or just let the Suite installer take care of the whole upgrby Hauffen - Café LA Re: editting on laptops - 18 years agoI sense that Amy is not exactly a full-time editor, yet. Otherwise, she wouldn't hesitate in getting a full-size, late model desktop Mac. While it's true that a Powerbook can't beat a desktop for editing, the portable has its obvious advantages. You can use every feature of FCP everywhere, anytime on a 'Book. I too do most of the serious stuff on my destop Mac. But my 15" Alumn has allowedby Hauffen - Café LA |
