Re: Final Cut Studio 3 may have price me out of using it. - 14 years agoI have your same G5. Not a big surprise, we went through this with the B&W G3 when the G4s came out and I had to trade up from my wind tunnel G4 to my G5. It is just a fact of life. If you want to be current with Apple software, you need reasonably current Apple hardware. Make sense to me. If you are doing home videos, training videos and event videos, I can't see why you could not be hapby Dan Brockett - Café LA Re: Cool tool - 14 years agoJoe: As long as you don't start typing "loose" when you mean "lose". That drives me insane. There is an epidemic people "loosing" things all over the web and even in magazines and books. It is the "impactful" debacle all over again. As you know, the powerful business leaders of the U.S. decided in the 80's that "impactful" was a real word aby Dan Brockett - Café LA Re: FCP 7: Motion 4 : Color 1.5 ect :-))) - 14 years agoYes, it is definitely Intel only. Us dinosaurs with G5s will finally have to update to take advantage of it. So as far as we know, this update means that the original code is still underneath, the interface looks basically unchanged. That is a bit disappointing, I keep wondering when Apple will do a "from the ground up" re-write of the application? Danby Dan Brockett - Café LA FS (LA) Singh-Ray VARI ND 77mm Filter - 14 years agoI have been on the LAFCPUG website since the LAFCPUG was founded and have bought and sold several items here (two lenses a few weeks ago also) with no issues. I am selling my Singh-Ray 77mm Vari ND filter, I need to re-allocate the money I have tied up in this filter into other lenses. I know, its a sickness. They are finally getting it that even consumers want at least the option to manually control the camera in certain situations. I propose that with enough talent, a knowledge of shooting and lighting and a good subject, these little cameras could be all that most HMC150/XA-H1 level users would eveby Dan Brockett - Café LA Re: OT: Michael Jackson - 14 years agoI was in Paris yesterday and all that has been on French TV is the death of MJ and all of the tributes to him. It is MAJOR news in Europe, much more so then here in the U.S. This is a huge story all over the world. Danby Dan Brockett - Café LA Re: OT: Camera - 14 years agoSteve, a $20.00 Hoodman will let you easily use the flip out LCD on any camcorder in the brightest sunlight. Easy issue to overcome. Danby Dan Brockett - Café LA Re: OT: Camera - 14 years agoI almost bought the HFS-10 but ended up going for the 5D MKII. I agree with Joey, all of these new little Canons in the HFS line are very impressive cameras for the money. If you know how to shoot and light, they are even more impressive. They have very professional features for the price range. The only reason I ended up with the 5D MKII instead was that I needed to shoot a lot of stills and neeby Dan Brockett - Café LA Re: Speakers for Video & Sound Editing- Need Suggestions - 14 years agoRight, but they shouldn't spend $100.00 on monitors unless they are willing to concede that there is no chance of anything near accurate sound with those types of speakers. I am seriously thinking of authoring an on-line course or application that shows people in our business how to budget and spend their money on gear. I sense a recurring theme in our business that is so frustrating. 1.by Dan Brockett - Café LA Lessons you don't want to hear about - 14 years agoUghh, video editors trying to deal with accurate audio monitoring, can their be a more awkward match? ;-) It's like watching a video edited by a sound editor. I am only posting this because you used the term, "audio editing". That would imply that you are mixing audio, doing final mixes and that your work will not run through the hands of professional sound mixer for sweetening, sound dby Dan Brockett - Café LA Re: anyone else have Iphone/Itunes/Quicktime/FCP blues? - 14 years agoDon't know if this helps but I am successfully running FCP 5.1.4 on my old G5 with QT 7.6. Works fine. I would upgrade to 5.1.4 and try it. Danby Dan Brockett - Café LA Re: hdr - Tilt Shift filter for FCP - 14 years agoI've used the MB Looks to get that effect with some pretty decent success. Worth a try. Danby Dan Brockett - Café LA Re: Your favorite recipe for white pops - 14 years agoSounds interesting Josh. I used to shoot a lot of 16mm and S16 and yes, I love the look of the ends of reels on daylight spools. Looking forward to seeing your tutorial. Danby Dan Brockett - Café LA Re: Your favorite recipe for white pops - 14 years agoGuys, I really appreciate it. Mattias' flash frame is superb, exactly what I was looking for. Thanks so much, Danby Dan Brockett - Café LA Re: Your favorite recipe for white pops - 14 years agoThanks Joe. I'll give that one a try too today. Danby Dan Brockett - Café LA Re: Your favorite recipe for white pops - 14 years agoHi Alex: This sounds more my speed, thanks for the advice. I'll give it a spin. Danby Dan Brockett - Café LA Re: Your favorite recipe for white pops - 14 years agoThanks for the recipe Joe. Unfortunately I am not an AE guy, just FCP and Motion. Thanks, Danby Dan Brockett - Café LA Re: Your favorite recipe for white pops - 14 years agoIs the end result any different than me just doing a 5 frame white matte, applying opacity keyframes with smoothing? It seems like there so many different ways to do this. Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out. Danby Dan Brockett - Café LA Your favorite recipe for white pops - 14 years agoHi all: I know, there are a million ways to do them. What are your favorite methods for doing the classic visual "white pop" that is accompanied by a character having a flashback and are often accompanied by a big reverbed whoosh? Trying the dip to color dissolve and I just can't get it to look organic and smooth. Thanks, Danby Dan Brockett - Café LA Re: Repair shops near Ventura County? Dog lifted leg! - 14 years agoHi Cameron: I live in Camarillo. There is a Mac shop in Ventura, not sure if they do repair but I have seen their ads. I cannot locate a website or ad for them but the store had the name Mac something in it. Danby Dan Brockett - Café LA Re: Need an experienced editor to advise on workflow - 14 years agoHi all: Thanks for the advice, some good points were made by all of you. Consulting for a production, it is definitely not my project, I would not try to mix the two. FWIW, they are totally aware of the difference in looks and are okay with it, they are using the HVX mostly for interviews and the 5D MKIIs mostly for b-roll. I came to the same conclusion, I told them that if it were me,by Dan Brockett - Café LA Need an experienced editor to advise on workflow - 14 years agoHi all: I am hoping that someone here has already attempted this work flow and will have the best plan of action. Production will be with an HVX200 and two Canon 5D MKIIs. Long form doc, tons of footage from both but ratios are intended to be 70% HVX200 and 30% Canon D MKII footage. Not all government footage or stills are PD, many have estates of the artists who sometimes need to be approached for permission to reproduce.
