Re: External DVD burner recommendations - 16 years agoThe pixel drop out has only happenned to me using an external La Cie burner and I've used Toast, I DVD and DVD Studio Pro on my Mac pro with not a hint of pixel dropout. My money is on the LaCie..no offence. I too paid a great deal for my LaCie external and it drove me mad. Never again.by Phil UK - Café LA Re: Export TO Powerpoint - 16 years agoFlip For Mac is crucial for Powerpoint and remember to crop if your presentation cut contains various sources. Powepoints screen dimentions are larger than FCP viewer/canvas and SD frame sizes...I've just had that experience twice as a matter of fact.by Phil UK - Café LA Re: External DVD burner recommendations - 16 years agoNot a LaCie, I got conned by Londons main Mac dealership into spending £280 a few years back on one and it's rubbish. My Canvas and viewer are slightly out with my broadcast moniter and I have forgotten the setting. It's in my brain but brain not working. My apologies for any repeat episodes. Cheers to LA. We use Aja Kona uncompressed 8 bit, I have the breakout box and card. Equipment in the UK is expensive thus we kind of wing it but it's cool, my AE artist is young but a gifted desigby Phil UK - Café LA Monitoring motion graphics on Mac Pro - 16 years agoI know this on has been done to death, I'm still unclear on how to move forward...I do offline cut in FCP 5.1.4, send them to an After Effects Artist who applies motion GFX (very animated with Trap code, Zakwerks etc) and back it comes to me. I have noticed a couple of imperfections. The artist I work with does not have a Kona card...he uses the Kona codec download however he cannot monitor his wby Phil UK - Café LA Re: Blackmagic Intensity Pro Question - 16 years agoGet Handbrake of the net, rip the DVD and convert to whatever file you want using streamclip...no decks, no Blackmagic card, co camera...I do it all the time and it's fine. Philby Phil UK - Café LA Re: AE and Cinema 4D motion GFX in Final Cut 5.1.4 problem - 16 years agoGrafixjoe if you are out there you might know this. We have just gone into After Effects/Interpret footage/Fields & Pulldown/Seperate Fileds Off - and it seems to have cleaned up the offending frames. I know this is an FCP Phorum but we don't belong to any AE Phorum, all output goes out via FCP 5.1.4 and we are low on time. We work with uncompressed 8 bit via Aja Kona 3. Cheers Philby Phil UK - Café LA AE and Cinema 4D motion GFX in Final Cut 5.1.4 problem - 16 years agoHi Guys, We have a kids commercial using FCP content with Cinema 4D animation all brought together in ASfter Effects and mastered in FCP. There is a slight saw tooth on the outline of an animated TV rendered from Cinema 4D. It is an a broadcast monitor and we do not know how to get rid of it. A jpeg is in the lik below. Thanks again G & E London.by Phil UK - Café LA Re: internal drive for PM G5, needs to be apple? - 16 years agoI have Seagates and they never mess me around, they don't overheat - they have never failed in five years of FCP application...and they are cheap.by Phil UK - Café LA Re: Optical Flow For Slow-Mo - 16 years agoSlow motion with digital video/non linear systems is never perfects..I think it is just to do with video having two fields. I would love to be able to get great slo mo effects.by Phil UK - Café LA Re: How can I get a better compression? - 16 years agoI export as normal DV for DVD burning - I have never been all that convinced with mac 'compressor' so for really compressed files I use Discreet Cleaner or Streamclip or both. They are great. I use uncompressed 8 bit. I use the shift field filter from +1 to -1. Will that do the trick? It comes back 16:9 FHA. I then run it through the videoscopes, put a flicker filter on it, clock it and export FCP to IMX 50 mb. Burn to a DVD and off it goes. I have never had this problem. It is possible that AE 7 has issues...it's doen a few weird things. I do commercials at uncompressed 8 bit with a AJA Kona 3, QT 7.2, FCP 5.1.4 on a mac pro dual core. I send broadcast masters as IMX files and they get flipped and sent to TV stations. It's a case of 'looking for a shot itus' where the camera never settles. I hate that, DV costs nothing and it is easy to adlib for a tripod for smooth shots but no...it's terrible and it's in Nicaragua...I have a real bee in my bonnet about unsteady and impatient camera work. In Stanley Kubrick's world this would neby Phil UK - Café LA Stabilizing Image (mini DV) and making it look usable... - 16 years agoI have been here so many times...I have to cut a pilot using alot of bad mini DV...it's hand held, poor light as in grey and rainy but above all the person who shot it was rubbish with a camera. I have friends who come over from Canada who find it staggering. It's unsustainable and does our film industry no good at all.
