Re: FCP 7.0.3 frequent crashes - 12 years agoThanks Dave, All good points. this is an editing only system, but I don't keep records of updates, etc.. I have never to my recollection done an entire hour using XDCAM EX video on a DVCPROHD timeline, but have done many on the ProRes HQ timeline with no problems & you'd think the DVCPROHD time line would have similar results. Everyone here has been very kind to help me with the various issues I run into in FCP, so I hope this may help you-all. Still have the crash problem, so I'm going to do the next hour on a ProRes HQ timeline, render in Pro Res and see what happens, then export it to DVCPROHD. I may also try the "guest user" that you suggested. Having a little time to ponder this issue...I normally edit on a ProRes HQ timeline, with prores render selected, but since the delivery requirement is DVCPROHD I chose that timeline. How practical would it be to edit the movie on a proRes or for that matter XDCAM EX timeline then put it on the DVCPROHD timeline? thx...jwby jwatt - Café LA Re: FCP 7.0.3 frequent crashes - 12 years agoThanks..appreciate the advice. i'll give it a try. jwby jwatt - Café LA Re: FCP 7.0.3 frequent crashes - 12 years agothis is the link, I don't think it printed on the last postby jwatt - Café LA Re: FCP 7.0.3 frequent crashes - 12 years agoI put it up on yousendit.com, here is the link. I did download Macaroni which is a small utility that manages Unix issues and possibly that has made a difference. I really don't have a clue why things improved, but not going to argue with it fixing itself. Thanks for all your help. I'm capturing DVCPROHD 1080/60i @ 29.97 fps from an HD 150 deck. I'm using a Kona 3 card in a MacPro dual quad core, wi 10 gigs of ram & an Xserve Raid for video drive. Digitizing in DVCPROHD 29.97/1080i. It explains why edit to tape also takes an inordinately longer time than our DVCPRO HD edit to tape sessions. Makes a lot of sense. I guess my next quandry is to just start with a ProRes HQ timeline or stay with the XDCAM EX long gop until export time. Thanks again, your insight is greatly appreciated. jby jwatt - Café LA Re: XDCAM EX 1 hr timeline very slow to export to QT movie - 14 years agoValid observation, and you may have found the problem. This program is quite similar to the others I've done in the past. Same style, pacing, etc., but the one thing there are more of here are traveling mattes, about 2 dozen, which may indeed be causing the slow down. there's a lot of on camera presentation cut into the show from our safari guide in his land cruiser so I used a custom gradieby jwatt - Café LA Re: XDCAM EX 1 hr timeline very slow to export to QT movie - 14 years agoI upgraded when the last version came out, but had done an export just like this with that version and it went along just fine.
