ot: 10.4.9 combo? - 17 years agoHi, Are we still recommending to use the combo updater to apply OSX upgrades? Specifically I'm looking to apply 10.4.9, unless anyone tells me they're having probs. thx,by bdplaid - Café LA Re: Glitches on transitions after render (driving me nuts) - 17 years agoor try dumping the render files and re-rendering. that often works for me. hby bdplaid - Café LA Re: Apple to hold special event at NAB - 17 years agoNo, I bet it's Jobs making a compelling argument about why copy protection on software disks like FCP is BAD.by bdplaid - Café LA Re: default dvd write speed - 17 years agothat's what i'm doing, just wanted to save the step of resetting the speed for each disc. it's now 40 sets of a 5-disk set - 200 burns total. thanks.by bdplaid - DVD Studio Pro Re: default dvd write speed - 17 years agoThanks for the reply. What I was hoping to do was to set the default speed at a system level and duplicate image files. The discs are done, just need mucho copies. For the relatively small number that i need (30 sets), a dupe house would not be manufacturing them as replications anyway - just dupes. they already told me that. thanks,by bdplaid - DVD Studio Pro default dvd write speed - 17 years agoHi, folks, Is there a way to set the default write speed on a Mac (G4 or MacPro, OSX 10.4.8)? Specifically I'm looking to burn a ton of DVDs from the disc utility app using disc images, and want to specify the write speed ahead of time (8X for 16X-rated discs) so that it's mostly an automated job. thanks,by bdplaid - DVD Studio Pro Re: Chroma Key with HVX200 - 17 years agoThat looks wild and useful, except in my case i use a PC laptop on location. Oh well. But a chroma preview does look very useful. thanks,by bdplaid - Café LA Re: panasonic p2 card adapter for new 17 inch mac book pro? - 17 years agothe whole PCMCIA card issue is a real headache - I understand from HP that their laptops now have only Expresscard slots, not PCMCIA, and won't. HP never supported the 8GB cards anyway. so we have new cameras that are being made obsolete by the laptops with they are supposed to interface. Panny might have missed the boat here. The next version of P2 to be expresscard? Progress is wonderfby bdplaid - Café LA Re: Chroma Key with HVX200 - 17 years agofyi: the dvGarage stuff also has a version for AE. good luck!by bdplaid - Café LA Re: FCP 5.1.3 - 17 years agoand speed increase on Macpro? or do we wait for leopard?by bdplaid - Café LA Re: Chroma Key with HVX200 - 17 years agoI did a very successful HVX chroma shoot last fall. Point number 1, though: TEST, TEST, TEST!! I spent the equivalent of 2 days shooting and keying test footage to setup the background and lighting properly. I used DVCPro 50, anamorphic. Then I keyed with DV Garage's DVMattePro, which is awesome. It pulled great keys from within FCP for a very reasonable price. Hmmm....by bdplaid - Café LA Re: Exporting an FLV with FCP 5.1.2 - 17 years agowhy don't you upload it to iFilm or youTube, let them do the encode, then download it and remove the file from their site? cheapest way i can think of to get an flv encoded file. alternatively, if you have access to a PC you can try the free Riva encoder. also, there are a couple of websites that do the encode, by uploading the file, then the file automatically comes back as whatever format yby bdplaid - Café LA Re: Media Manager almost ready for primetime - 17 years agoHi, Mark, Well, now the guantlet has been thrown down! :-) I swear, I recall getting error messages in the Avid capture window (I can still see it in my mind's eye) when I was trying to digitize the NDF tapes (it balked and wouldn't cap at all). And I do also recall using a text editor to try to fool the Avid with those tapes (on another occasion I had to do that with an AMPEX ACE linear sby bdplaid - Café LA Re: Media Manager almost ready for primetime - 17 years agoactually, i seem to recall MC 7 was out then, and I seem to recall a session where the house editor where onlines were done couldn't load a cut list because of NDF/DF issues. in my situation, it was DF on some tapes, NDF on others. there were about 12 beta sp tapes shot on different days and about 3-4 of them had NDF. for some reason, my boss hired a shooter rather than my doing it, and the sby bdplaid - Café LA Re: Media Manager almost ready for primetime - 17 years agoIt was Avid Xpress 2.something, but the media composers of the day (1997-1999-ish) also had this issue. Damn, I hated those systems. I've been so careful in production ever since that it didn't occur to me that modern NLEs would overcome this on a basic level. thanks for the update.by bdplaid - Café LA Re: Media Manager almost ready for primetime - 17 years agoGood info here. Nick, you reminded me of my Avid days - and a couple of questions: 1. One one Avid project, somehow i ended up with media that had both drop and non-drop TC. It was a mother trying to get that to work. and actually I'm not sure if i ever did; i recall going through the cut list and changing all colons ( to semi-colons ( to try and fool the avid. i recall it not working. Sby bdplaid - Café LA Re: Best solution for typewriter animation effect - 17 years agoAnd speaking of these CHV filters, wasn't filmman looking for a film perf effect some time ago? This filter is cool because a) it lets you define your own image for the border (at least as i understand it), and 2) it's an fx-plug (rather than fx-script).by bdplaid - Café LA Re: Best solution for typewriter animation effect - 17 years agoThat IS cool. Kind of like a combination of AE and Motion in FCP.by bdplaid - Café LA Re: requesting help with 3D logo...might there be a ready-made plug-in...? - 17 years agoHi, sorry for the slow response - the link above takes you to their website. if the flash animation doesn't play, then click on the logo in the upper left hand corner. it's flash, so i know it's not exactly what you're after, but might something like that be acceptable (because it's easier to make than the laser cut-out letters). Please pardon me for saying this, but you do know this hasby bdplaid - Café LA Re: Media Manager almost ready for primetime - 17 years agoI swear, every time I think I've come up with a feature request, someone points out to me that FCP already does it. :-) thanks!by bdplaid - Café LA Re: recording web video from the web - 17 years agoIf you have a PC and use Firefox you can download an extension called Ook? Video Ook! that can download .flv videos from websites. Riva encoder can transcode them. Alternately, there's a tutorial on YouTube for downloading these videos that refers to a website that does media conversion as it downloads. Sorry, i don't recall the name, but do a search at YouTube for it.by bdplaid - Café LA Re: requesting help with 3D logo...might there be a ready-made plug-in...? - 17 years agowhy don't you look at the way the show OVERHAULIN' does it. that's pretty easy with After Effects. Also, is the kind of thing, but with a background falling away?: If you don't know AE or some other effects app, you might want to hire the job out. FCP is not the program for this. It requires animating things along a path (that you must construct). It's actually not that hard, butby bdplaid - Café LA Re: Media Manager almost ready for primetime - 17 years agoInteresting stuff. Can FCP just add timecode to things that are either captured directly, or sources that are ripped and don't have TC? I think this would be a very useful feature, especially since i have a load of archived material on DVD that I'm about to rip from disk and use in a project. So if FCP doesn't do this, I'd like to request that it be an option somewhere. I ask the question because I'd like to upgrade the MacPro to the ATI Radeon X1900 XT card, and at the same time my PCI-express PC needs a video card. It seems the nVidia card will fit in the PC, I just don't know if the card's Apple-specific, and thereby bdplaid - Café LA Re: Dual 3.0 - any complaints? praise? - 17 years agoI have a quad 2.66 macPro, and am somewhat ambivalent about it, but mostly like it. Expectedly, it is much faster than my dual 1GHz Quicksilver 2002, but the MacPro isn't as fast as I had hoped. Be aware that if you go with it, FCP 5.1.2 is required, because it's a universal app. Order that now, because the upgrade is only done by mail. So now I gotta get my backside to Utah; like I needed one more thing to do...by bdplaid - Café LA Re: Your Opinion: after FCP, what app? - 17 years agoHiya, It was a joke, actually when I do work for corporate clientele I usually raise my rate, because i know that at some point there will be "editing by committee," where everyone has to put their thumbprint on the project. I'm involved in that now. I'm paid decently for this project, however, so let them have their fun.by bdplaid - Café LA Re: Your Opinion: after FCP, what app? - 17 years agoI tried that with the suits. when I told them i didn't want any money, they happily complied.by bdplaid - Café LA |
