Re: More important is the RAM - 17 years agoActually, I've been seeing really nice prices on SATA bare drives lately. And I have an Azio SATA/USB enclosure that's very cheap and very fast (with a Hitachi drive, of course). I guess we can't have everything. But with Apple moving to SATA inside the last box, and hearing nothing lately about FW1600, and hearing rumors of firewire's death (succumbing to USB 2.0), and given that SATA (both 1by bdplaid - Café LA Re: Mac Pro is Bad News For Cafe LA - 17 years agografixjoe wrote: > > I ran a Dual 1 Ghz Quicksilver G4 2002 right up until December > '05 with no issues. I'm still running one, and the only issues i have are: No Motion (even though I have the software) and I just got an HVX200, and can't edit DVCPROHD (well, I can, but the machine is too slow for any kind of preview). I'm relegated to DVCPRO50 widescreen. which is actually not soby bdplaid - Café LA Re: More important is the RAM - 17 years agoI hear Apple is trying to standardize the heat sink on the memory so that 3rd party manufacturers *can* make RAM. It would stink if we have to buy Apple's overpriced memory. But the new machine looks good. why no external SATA, though? wouldn't that be faster than FW800? hdby bdplaid - Café LA Re: dvMatte Pro - 17 years agoHi, thanks for the response. yes, I did like you - just downloaded the demo and boom - it worked. sorry to be a weenie about it; i don't like to install things on my system that don't work; it's cluttered enough as it is. But yes, dvMatte works well - better than vKey, but vKey works surprisingly well, indeed. vKey is much easier, too, but dvMatte's quality is worth the extra money to me. dvMby bdplaid - Café LA dvMatte Pro - 17 years agoHi, DV Matte pro lists FCP 4 as its host Does it work in FCP 5.0.4? I sent them an e-mail and no response. thx,by bdplaid - Café LA Re: DVD burn - 17 years agois the "quicktime" a reference movie from FCP? if so, try making one that's self-contained and see what's up. i'd also try compressing to another format - like h.264, but make it a large size and high quality and self-contained. i'd try to get away from the origianl edited footage in case that's the culprit. anyway, i'd play around and see if it makes any difference. i might also trby bdplaid - Café LA Re: OT: problems with B and H? - 17 years agoThanks derek. and truth be told, i can always negotiate a better price from my local guy. it helps that they're a major national player, too, so they also have clout with menufacturers. but yeah, when i have something that i want to be sure will be supported, i use my guy. i take care of him, and he knows it. btw - BH update. i decided that what happened earlier was probably a fluke. soby bdplaid - Café LA Re: 5.0.4 vs 5.1.1 - 17 years agono, i'd never upgrade in mid project. unlike my former boss, who - back in the analog and tape day - switched out the ENTIRE studio in mid-project. everything: edit controller, cameras, decks, CCUs, DVEs, audio, every piece in the place was changed. and he made it work. talk about brass ones!by bdplaid - Café LA Re: OT: problems with B and H? - 17 years agoi have to agree. my major purchases are always local through my vendor. he has really come through for me when things I have purchased went kablewie and the manufacturer was jerking around. that would be JVC, who eventually came through for me quite well, but it was thanks to my salesman. most of my accessories and smaller stuff i get at BH - which actually can run into quite a bit of money.by bdplaid - Café LA Re: 5.0.4 vs 5.1.1 - 17 years agoThanks, I didn't see that and it does answer questions. 5.1.1 looks like mostly a maintenance release to me, especially for those using intel-o-mac (sic), but the automatically reattaching externally modded clips is definitely a good thing. as for me, i have no probs doing what i'm doing, even with the new P2 workflow. definitely a learning curve there, but i like it.by bdplaid - Café LA 5.0.4 vs 5.1.1 - 17 years agoI know this topic has been here, but I can't find it. What are the differences between these 2 versions of FCP? AKA, why should I upgrade? thx,by bdplaid - Café LA Re: HELP!trouble with importing p2 footage off hard drive. - 17 years agoI recommend Shane's tutorial. Very helpful for folks new to P2. Especially recommended is the part where the police come for Shane.by bdplaid - Café LA Re: OT: problems with B and H? - 17 years agoYeah, maybe it was a fluke, but it was 2 items in the same order that were junked up. I'm not big on receiving merchandise that's in bad shape and supposed to be new. That's the kind of thing that makes me look elsewhere. So here's a good one - I really need an 82mm UV filter and can't get one locally. This was one of the items in question at B and H. So I returned it to BH and ordered oneby bdplaid - Café LA Re: Compressor 2 is inferior - 17 years agothe irony of that last line is just too much... HarryDby bdplaid - Café LA Re: Compressor 2 is inferior - 17 years agoThat's interesting - i had something that had artifacts all over the place with everything I tried, but didn't try DVDSP directly. It's a done project now, but I think I'll give this a go to see if it works. why is it that some times we just can't let go of our failuers? :-) thanks, harry Dby bdplaid - Café LA OT: problems with B and H? - 17 years agoI've used B anh H photo for awhile and have been more or less happy with them, but lately about half the things they send to me are clearly restocked - a green screen that was torn, and a UV filter that had a broken seal and a blemish on the glass. I'm in the process of RMA'ing them, but I shouldn't have to do this with product that is so clearly damaged. I haven't had any luck finding vendors who will rent them alone, but only in camera packages. Any ideas? thx, hdby bdplaid - Café LA Re: FS100 - anyone using? - 17 years agoHi, Thanks, yes, I was already there and it's where I've gotten my initial info. just wondering if folks here are using it and to what effect. thanks, hdby bdplaid - Café LA Re: It's just a gradient... - 17 years agoHi, i have never once had a problem with a reference movie; i use them all the time. the only time i recall having to make them was to flatten a quicktime. however, if I had a project that sat on the drive for awhile and then I wanted to play or use the ref movie at that time, I agree there is is a strong liklihood that links to referred media (and the media itself) may have gone missing. at tby bdplaid - Café LA Re: It's just a gradient... - 17 years agomaybe I'm too late for you, but did you try another source for the gradient? for example, instead of making it in PS, make it in the FCP generator to see what the output is like? then just use some simp,le titles in FCP. not fancy, but when your back against it... also, no self-contained movies, but rather reference movies might be better. that way it only gets one final render. this soundsby bdplaid - Café LA Re: OT: monitor tray for tripod - 17 years agoHi, I wanted to update this about what i actually did - Being cheap, I started making a table that affixed to the legs of the tripod. It had a set of curved slots that provided a friction fit for Vinten sticks. the ony problem: the slots had to be cut very precise of the table wouldn't sit level. It did work, however. Instead, I used a music stand - the type which has a closed back and caby bdplaid - Café LA FS100 - anyone using? - 17 years agoHi, is anyone using a Firestore FS100 with an HVX200 and FCP? How do you like it? any problems? thanks, hdby bdplaid - Café LA Re: OT - Hot Shoe Adapters for 2 Items - 17 years agodo they have one with a cup holder? a coffee warmer would be nice, too. hdby bdplaid - Café LA Re: Can't see FCP on External Monitor - 17 years agowell, thanks derek. this saved my butt as well. the thing i can't figure out - i've been using FCP for years now; never, ever changed that setting, and all of a sudden it got turned off. definitely threw me, had me thinking there was something wrong with firewire or my setup. anyway, thanks mucho! hdby bdplaid - Café LA Re: OT: monitor tray for tripod - 18 years agothanks, my problem is i need to accommodate the angle of the tripod leg so that the tray/table is flat. i could get a percussion trap table or a clamp-on music stand arrangement, but i need one that has some kind of adjustable clamp; the ones i've seen do not, and attach to stands at a right angle only. if i could even find an articulating clamp, i could put a piece of wood on that. but i'm sby bdplaid - Café LA OT: monitor tray for tripod - 18 years agoHi, folks, I'm looking to buy or build some type of utility tray onto which I can place an LCD monitor. I deally, this would clamp to the tripod leg. I can only find the one made by manfrotto, and that seems too expensive to me. I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of another tray-type affair, or mount, or if you had any idea about something else that could be clamped to a tripod legby bdplaid - Café LA Re: Streamclip Unavailable??? - 18 years agohi, koz, been a long time! anyway, you've probably already solved this, but since you're on a PC, what about nero? last time i used it (version 6) it did darned near everything. it's downloadable. hdby bdplaid - Café LA |
