Re: Lightworks - 12 years agoIt's been delayed. There is no release date yet. See here for more details:by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: Supplemental Content ??? - 12 years agoThe ProApps Codecs are here: But as far as I'm aware there is no separate download for the content.by Jon Chappell - Café LA - X Re: Supplemental Content ??? - 12 years agoSupplemental Content is installed at /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro. It's harder to tell if the codecs are installed, especially if you have Final Cut Pro 7 installed as well. You can look inside the /Library/QuickTime folder for AppleAVCIntraCodec.component, AppleHDVCodec.component and AppleIntermediateCodec.component.by Jon Chappell - Café LA - X Re: FCP X dead for Professionals?,, FCP X cuts my editing time by 25% - 12 years agoEven if FCPX did meet my needs, it's not stable enough to be relied upon. Take a casual glance around the Apple forums and you'll see many crashes and lots of people losing hours or even days of work. I'm confident Apple will eventually fix the stability issues but until then I can't even consider it.by Jon Chappell - Café LA - X Re: What is the absolute best quality output from MPEG Streamclip? - 12 years agoI'd recommend transcoding your TOD files to ProRes. Also, I suspect that FCP is not degrading the quality of the clips but is instead degrading the quality of the preview so that it can play back in realtime. This will not affect the quality of the final output. To get a better idea of what it's going to look like, either render your timeline or click on the RT menu in the top left of the timeby Jon Chappell - Color Re: End of FCP?? - 12 years agoFinal Cut Pro 7 was 32-bit and used QuickTime extensively. There is no 64-bit version of QuickTime so the app needed to be completely rewritten from scratch. Along the way, Apple decided to rethink the idea of a non-linear editor using things it had learned from its experiments with iMovie. As I said in a previous thread on this subject, two things need to happen for FCPX to be used professionby Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: SD codec for Shot on Film project. - 12 years agoBen makes a good point. When doing a negative cut, you have to be very careful how you cut it because anything other than straight cuts counts as a special effect and needs the additional expense of an optical. This includes cross dissolves, titles, using the same frame more than once, etc.by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: SD codec for Shot on Film project. - 12 years agoIf he's going back to a negative cut then the codec doesn't matter, as long as the quality is sufficient to be able to spot shots with soft focus. I've shied away from DV50 in the past for this reason and if I recall correctly, the last negative cut project I worked on was captured from Digibeta tapes as Uncompressed 4:2:2 (this was prior to the introduction of ProRes). ProRes isn't actually aby Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: FCP X dead for Professionals? - 12 years agoBoth FCPX and Avid are very different from FCP7. The closest thing to FCP7 right now is Adobe Premiere so you may have better luck with that. The titler's better than FCP's and you can delegate anything more advanced to After Effects.by Jon Chappell - Café LA - X Pro Media Tools 1.1 released - 64-bit, QT Edit batches, Auto Transfer metadata, Edit Detector overhaul and more - 12 years agoToday we released Pro Media Tools 1.1, a major new update to our suite of workflow and media management tools. There are over 300 changes in this version, which is a free update for registered users. Here are some of the biggest changes in 1.1: 64-bit The applications in the suite are now 64-bit. Premiere's #1 selling point is its Dynamic Link integration with After Effects so it's definitely worth looking at if you have graphics-heavy projects. I'm still doing some work with FCP 7 but my future looks like Premiere for short-form stuff, Avid for loby Jon Chappell - Café LA - X Re: FCP X dead for Professionals? - 12 years agoTwo things need to happen for FCPX to be widely adopted: 1. It needs to be stable and have features that professionals need like multicam and proper monitoring. 2. After being dropped so suddenly, people need to be confident that they can trust Apple and its commitment to professionals. #1 is easy, #2 not so much.by Jon Chappell - Café LA - X Re: QMaster for speeding rendering with Final Cut Pro - 12 years agoQmaster manages distributed rendering for Compressor, meaning that you can set it up to process multiple frames on different computers or even on different cores of the same computer. This can save a lot of time for long sequences. However, this is not available when rendering in Final Cut Pro nor is it available when sending to Compressor directly from FCP. The only ways to speed up renderingby Jon Chappell - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: FCPX Feature Wish List - 12 years agoI don't doubt that Apple experimented with 64-bit builds of Final Cut Pro (possibly with an unreleased 64-bit version of QuickTime) but I find it difficult to believe that they would take it all the way to a finished product and then scrap it just before it was released.by Jon Chappell - Café LA - X Re: speed change quality - 12 years agoRemember, there's a trial of FCPX available so the easiest way of determining the answer would be to try FCPX, FCP7 and Twixtor on the same clip and see which comes out the best.by Jon Chappell - Café LA - X Re: FCPX Feature Wish List - 12 years agoWe all would have purchased it anyway, even if it only had a few new features. It seems bizarre to take a finished product and not try to recoup at least some of your costs, which is why I think it can't possibly be true.by Jon Chappell - Café LA - X Re: FCP7 (Studio3 ) on Lion - 12 years agoIf the path doesn't exist, create it.by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: FCP7 (Studio3 ) on Lion - 12 years agoThe correct folder is /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Plugins. Some plugins will work in a subdirectory and some will only work in the root of this folder. If you still have difficulties, Plugin Manager can automatically install a plugin to the proper directory based on its type:by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: FCPX playback flicker on MacPro===>Graphics card or Ram??? - 12 years agoBen, that's a list of cards that are not supported by FCPX. The main tech specs page at seems to imply that any OpenCL card should work as long as it has at least 256 MB of VRAM. But I don't know how true that is.by Jon Chappell - Café LA - X Re: Export Issues/Quicktime Error -50 - 12 years agoFrom Crash Analyzer: -50 (QuickTime) This error occurs when there is corrupt or invalid media in your timeline. Check that the codec used by the file is recommended for use in your editing application. The only matte screen Apple offers is an optional extra on the MacBook Pro line.by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: 2 questions about Avid AMA - 12 years agoThere's an interesting thread on the L2 about gamma shifts:by Jon Chappell - Avid Media Composer Re: 2 questions about Avid AMA - 12 years ago1. Any file you can play in QuickTime Player should be able to be linked via AMA. 2. Just choose whatever your output frame size and frame rate should be. Avid will play the media back natively and any effects that need rendering will be rendered in DNxHD. If you experience performance problems then you can easily transcode the AMA media to DNxHD.by Jon Chappell - Avid Media Composer Re: If you are considering buying CS 5.5 Production Premium. 30% off this week. Also new Adobe upgrade policy. - 12 years agoA lot of people are annoyed by this change in policy because it means that users of older versions now have to purchase CS 5.5 in the full knowledge that it's about to be replaced soon, just so that they will qualify for the upgrade pricing for CS 6.0.by Jon Chappell - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Re: Folder - 12 years agoYou can limit Spotlight to only look for your search terms in folder names by typing kind:folder after your search query.by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: Processing for DVD - 12 years agoI did a feature on a G5 several years ago.
