Join us Wednesday, January 25 for the first Meet of 2017. And then every fourth Wednesday of the month after.

We welcome Terrence Curren from Alpha Dogs Post, who will present " Switching from Mac to PC." How to do it, if you want/need to do it.

We also welcome back Misha Tenenbaum of EditStock who will present "Finding (and Cutting) A Great Short Film."

Also we welcome back after a long long time Christine Steele, who will show and tell all about her new Documentary Take Me Home Huey.

NOTE: lacpug generally meets every 4th Wednesday of the Month. Meetings are open to public and ALL, beginning through advanced Digital Story Tellers are welcome. Join Gurus Patrick Southern, Misha Tenenbaum, Michael Kammes and Christine Steele as they will attempt to answer all of your questions and solve all of your problems concerning FCS and FCPX, Avid, Premiere Pro and anything else you can think of. If they can't solve your problem or answer your question, then you go home with a problem, but you still got out of the house, so that's not a bad thing.

7:30PM - 8:00PM - Signal in the Noise - Misha Tennenbaum
As CEO of EditStock — an online service that provides uncut footage for people to practice editing with — Misha Tenenbaum spends most of his time doing two things: Finding new films for EditStock’s library and giving users feedback on their cuts. In this presentation, Misha shares what he’s learned through these two vital processes — including how bad films may have more to teach us than good ones do.

About Misha Tenenbaum
Misha Tenenbaum is the CEO and Founder of EditStock.com, a site that provides unedited films for editors to practice their craft with. As a proud member of the Motion Picture Editor’s Guild (MPEG), Misha has logged more than 5,000 hours of union work on TV and film projects including the FX series American Horror Story, Wayward Pines on FOX, and the feature film JOBS starring Ashton Kutcher.
Misha graduated Georgia College & State University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. He is a certified Advanced Final Cut Pro Instructor, and an Avid Certified User (ACU).






8:00PM - 8:25PM Making "Take Me Home Huey" - Christine Steele
Produced by the artist Steve Maloney with filmmakers Alicia H. Brauns and Christine N. Steele, the 70 minute-long film documents the role played by Huey helicopters during the Vietnam War, as told by pilots, mechanics and helicopter crew members.

About Christine Steele
As director, producer and lead editor at Steele Pictures Studios, Inc., Christine Steele actively provides production and post-production services, consultation and training for colleagues and clients all over the world.
Christine has worked for ABC, BBC, FOX, Disney, Paramount, Warner, Showtime, Frontline, Electronic Arts, VH1 and PBS. She supervises a team of equally talented content creators and trainers.

9:00PM - 9:40PM - Switching from Mac to PC - Terence Curren
It appears to some that Apple hardware is leaving the higher-end media creation market behind. This is causing some to move to the Windows PC world. As the head of AlphaDogs, Terence Curren has been dealing with this shift for a long time. He will share some tips & tricks and hopefully allay some of your fears in switching.

About Terence Curren
Terence Curren is a widely-respected authority on post-production, with a decades-long career as an editor and colorist. Terry founded the talent-driven post production house AlphaDogs in 2002, and started the Editors’ Lounge in 2003 to share knowledge with the wider post community. He has written innumerable articles on post production topics and has participated in numerous discussion panels.

The Gallery Theater at Barnsdall Art Park

Enter through the gate on Hollywood Blvd just West of Berendo. The theater is at the top of the hill, adjacent to the art gallery.

From US 101 (heading South),
take the Hollywood Boulevard exit.
Turn left at the end of the exit ramp onto Hollywood Boulevard.
Turn right into the entrance to Barnsdall Art Park at 4800 Hollywood Boulevard. (you will only see a parking lot. Drive to top of hill to find the Gallery Theater)
The Gallery Theater is in the center of the park.

From US 101 (heading North),
take the Vermont Avenue exit.
Turn right at the end of the exit ramp onto Vermont Avenue.
Turn left onto Hollywood Boulevard.
Turn left into the entrance to Barnsdall Art Park at 4800 Hollywood Boulevard. (you will only see a parking lot. Drive to top of hill to find the Gallery Theater)
The Gallery Theater is in the center of the park.

Metro Red Line
Yes, Los Angeles has a subway and if possible you ought to use it. Riders are dropped of at Sunset and Vermont, one long block from the Art Park. More info on the Red Line can be found here.

PARKING: Parking is FREE. There is ample parking on top of hill near the Art Park. Parking extends around the perimeter of the Park. NOTE: Please park your car diagonally even though the spaces are not marked that way. What to do if I cant find a place to park?
Park at the Kaiser Hospital Parking lot. Download directions HERE - or...

1. Turn right on Hollywood Blvd
2. Turn right on Vermont Ave
3. Turn right on Sunset Blvd.
4. Turn right into Kaiser Parking Structure
5. Park on rooftop
6. Take elevator down to Level 2
7. Exit at Parking Entrance on Barnsdall Ave.
8. Cross Street to Barnsdall Park
9. Use Stair or elevator to Park
10. Climb stairs and follow signs to Gallery Theatre
11. Cost is $4.00 (I think) And security is provided.

Wheelchair access: Park in the lot next to the Hollyhock house (you will see a handicap parking sign), come into the theatre entrance, and take the elevator down. There will be space in the front of the theatre for wheelchairs.

Before or after the meeting, there is a fine restaurant row on Vermont between Hollywood and Franklin (just around the corner from the park). There are also a number of funky ethic eateries along Hollywood Blvd.
