"Final Cut Pro X Part 10.0.3 Night"

Final Cut Pro X Version 10.0.3 has just been announced. It introduces Multicam Editing, Broadcast Monitoring, Media Relink, advanced Chroma Keying and many more new features. Join us Febuary 22, 2012 as we welcome Guru Larry Jordan who will show us all you need to see and know.

You can now bring your old FCP 7 projects into FCP X. Yes, thats right. No one thought this could be done. Even Apple said it could not be done, at least with "perfect fidelity." But a couple guys in an apartment in Burbank did it. Join Philip Hodgetts from Intelligent Assistance who will take us on a tour of 7toX, a $10.00 app that takes the old into the new.

Andrew Balis will show us how to prep our movies for Color Correction whether it is going to DaVinci Resolve or any other color correction system.

Plus, another round of Stump The Gurus, and of course World Famous Raffle.

If they can't solve your problem or answer your question, then you go home with a problem, but you still got out of the house, so that's not a bad thing.

So your movie is locked and you now wish to color correct and you haven't got a clue what to do. Andrew Balis will hold our hands and guide us through all you need to know about prepping your movie for Color Correction.

About Andrew Balis
Andrew Balis is a colorist and online editor in projects spanning from narrative feature films to documentaries, and has been deeply involved in consulting and training industry professionals in editorial and color correction systems, color theory and application, and new and emerging technologies and editorial workflows, including specializing in RED and other various tapeless systems.

Andrew has been involved in the creating and molding of images for more than 20 years, first as a film student at NYU, then in production in every aspect of the camera department from camera loader to camera assistant culminating as a cinematographer in independent films, commercials, documentaries and music videos. After moving into the post production finishing world, he now works as a colorist, working with cinematographers, directors and producers to help realize their vision and shape the look of their projects.

As longtime principle instructor at Moviola Digital Arts Institute, Andrew has instructed colorists, editors and assistants from Paramount to ABC/Disney, Fox, E, Comcast, Matchframe, Fotokem, Trailer Park, Cimarron Group, The Post Group, MTV to virtually every post production facility in the Los Angeles area.

An author of books, DVD tutorials, dozens of articles, author of iPhone/iPad apps devoted to production and post, lecturer and public speaker including stints at Createasphere, UCLA, AFI and others. An early adopter of Apple’s Color and before that with Final Cut Pro, Andrew authored the highly popular DVD tutorial “Color Grading in Color” for Ripple Training, and has co-authored the 1st generation of Apple certified training curriculum for Final Cut Pro editing, effects and color correction.

How to get to the Gallery Theater at Barnsdall Art Park

Enter through the gate on Hollywood Blvd just West of Berendo. The theater is at the top of the hill, adjacent to the art gallery.

From US 101 (heading South),
take the Hollywood Boulevard exit.
Turn left at the end of the exit ramp onto Hollywood Boulevard.
Turn right into the entrance to Barnsdall Art Park at 4800 Hollywood Boulevard. (you will only see a parking lot. Drive to top of hill to find the Gallery Theater)
The Gallery Theater is in the center of the park.

From US 101 (heading North),
take the Vermont Avenue exit.
Turn right at the end of the exit ramp onto Vermont Avenue.
Turn left onto Hollywood Boulevard.
Turn left into the entrance to Barnsdall Art Park at 4800 Hollywood Boulevard. (you will only see a parking lot. Drive to top of hill to find the Gallery Theater)
The Gallery Theater is in the center of the park.

Metro Red Line
Yes, Los Angeles has a subway and if possible you ought to use it. Riders are dropped of at Sunset and Vermont, one long block from the Art Park. More info on the Red Line can be found here.

Note on Parking: Parking is FREE. There is ample parking on top of hill near the Art Park. Parking extends around the perimeter of the Park. NOTE: Please park your car diagonally even though the spaces are not marked that way. Wheelchair access: Park in the lot next to the Hollyhock house (you will see a handicap parking sign), come into the theatre entrance, and take the elevator down. There will be space in the front of the theatre for wheelchairs.

Before or after the meeting, there is a fine restaurant row on Vermont between Hollywood and Franklin (just around the corner from the park). There are also a number of funky ethic eateries along Hollywood Blvd.
