When was the last time you thought about your storage? Probably when you started running low on space or more likely when your drives didn't spin up. Storage systems have come a long way and the boys from ProMAX are going to take us through a brief technical history and a show and tell on Storage for Video Editors Today. Whether you are still editing on Firewire, have a multi-seat XSAN installation, or are curious about ISCSI, SSD and Light Peak, you will walk away with something you can use from this discussion. Storage is a changing.
Larry Jordan returns and will show us some tips and techniques on making your video look like film. Think you know it all? Think again.
Less than 7 weeks ago, three young film makers set themselves a unique, and grueling, challenge: to make a 90 minute feature film from initial concept to end of production in just 30 days.
Marcin Teodoru, Tom Cole, and Aaron Grasso, had no crew, no budget, and no script, just an intense collective of energy, enthusiasm, and talent. They managed to rally over 70 industry professionals for the production and on December 20, 2009, 30 days after announcing the challenge on their website, they wrapped production on “Closure”, starring Victor Browne, Stephanie Drapeau and Kevin Sizemore. “Closure”, shot on RED, is a dark tale of revenge and redemption. The team is currently in the middle of editing the feature. They will talk about the making of the film and show an exclusive clip from the movie.

Plus, we will do another round of Stump the Gurus, FCS Tips, show and tells, and of course, World Famous Raffle. Also there will be time for you to get up in front of everyone and say what you need to say. Agenda will be inked about one week before meeting date.
lafcpug generally meets every 4th Wednesday of the Month
Meetings are open to public and ALL beginning through advanced FCS users and Digital Story Tellers are welcome
First come best seat.
Admission is $5.00 at the door. No registration required for this meeting
Please Note: The March 24 meeting of the lafcpug maybe the last one.
The City of LA has decided to close down Nine Cultural Centers (due to budget cuts) including the Barnsdall Art Park's Gallery Theater, home of lafcpug for the past 6 years. This means that the March 24 meeting of the lafcpug maybe the last one.
Please show up at the meeting and share your ideas for a solution to this problem. In the meantime, write letters. Yeah, I know you feel writing letters is a waste of time and doesn't work. Fine. It's a stop gap measure at best. But one letter is worth about 2000 people to these officials. They don't get a lot of letters anymore. People stopped writing a long time ago.
Go here and read the instructions. It's a couple clicks of the mouse and it WILL help.
http://www.artsforla.org/
I will be down at City Hall Wednesdday March 24 at 10AM to listen to the City Council's ideas.
After this I am hoping to mobilize the community and continue to solicit your ideas. There has to be a more creative solution than simply shutting the doors of these most important Cultural institutions and putting up a fence.
Agenda (Subject to change)
6:45- 7:15PM - Stump the Gurus
Join FCS Gurus Andrew Balis, Shannon L. Hartman and Misha Tenenbaum as they will attempt to answer all of your questions and solve all of your problems concerning FCS. If they can't solve your problem or answer your question, then you go home with a problem, but you still got out of the house, so that's not a bad thing.
7:20PM - 7:30PM - Announcements
Trying to make this a regular part of lafcpug meets. This is a chance to get up and ask for a job, offer job opportunities, announce your film or service, or tell a bad joke. We will also talk about the future of lafcpug and the Gallery Theater. Be brief.
7:35PM - 7:55PM - Making your video look more like film - Larry Jordan
Larry Jordan returns and will show us some tips and techniques on making your video look like film. Think you know it all? Think again.
7:55PM - 8:30PM - Storage for Video Editors Today - ProMax
When was the last time you thought about your storage? Probably when you started running low on space or more likely when your drives didn't spin up. Storage systems have come a long way and the boys from ProMAX are going to take us through a brief technical history and a show and tell on Storage for Video Editors Today. Storage is a changing.
8:35PM - 9:00PM - Break
In the lobby will be many FCS Gurus. This is your chance to ask questions. No questions? ProMax will be in the lobby showing off their editing and storage solutions. Veescope Live will be in lobby. Also Footagehead.com with kick butt stock footage. The break is a chance to hang out and meet and greet and get your problems solved and who knows, get a job. You never know who you are going to meet at lafcpug. Snacks and Beer and Wine will be on sale in the lobby. Proceeds go to the Gallery Theater.
9:00PM - 9:30PM - The 30 Day Feature Film Challenge - Marcin Teodoru, Tom Cole, and Aaron Grasso

9:35PM - 9:45PM - "Heaven+Earth+Joe Davis" - Jay Miracle - Show and Tell
This is for a feature documentary - Heaven+Earth+Joe Davis. We are still in prod and post.
Basically, Joe Davis is the father of Bio-Art, and he is unquestionably one of the most amazing minds I've ever encountered. He is also a child of the sixties, often lives off the street - sometimes homeless in Boston, and has been based at MIT, but unpaid for over 20 years.
He has done such eclectic projects as:
* Beaming the sound of vaginal contractions from the Boston Ballet ballerinas into outer space
* Using the SETI project set up by NASA- Carl Sagan
* Designing gyrocopters powered by frog's legs
* Encoding the entire text of Heraclitus into the inside of a fruitfly's eyeball, - visible through a microscope -
It is an extremely unusual documentary and a difficult story and structure to create, because Joe Davis is literally all over the place with his projects in science and the arts.
9:45PM - 9:55PM - Andrew H Petersen - Show and Tell
Andrew H Petersen brings a new vision to the LAFCPUG this month! To Andrew, filmmaking is not just his passion; it's an obsession. Although he mainly works as a DP, he often wears many hats, taking on the roles of an editor and director. He will be sharing a few commercials he made in Miami and featuring a Base Jumping mini Doc that he created for Playboy TV.
Get ready this kid is only 24 years old!
