Agenda (subject to change)

6:45- 7:15PM - Stump the Gurus
Join FCS Gurus Andrew Balis, Misha Tenenbaum and
Steve Kanter as they will attempt to answer all of your questions and solve all of your problems concerning FCS. If they can't solve your problem or answer your question, then you go home with a problem, but you still got out of the house, so that's not a bad thing.

7:20PM - 7:30PM - Announcements (if time available)
This is a chance to get up and ask for a job, offer job opportunities, announce your film or service, or tell a bad joke.

7:30PM - 7:55PM - "How to choose the RIGHT encoding solution" - Michael Kammes .
Michael Kammes will discuss the hot areas in post production that require encoding, and then, right before your eyes, determine what is the right encoding solution for your workflow.

8:00PM - 8:25PM - "Avid MC 5.5 Overview." - Michael Krulik
Michael Krulik, Avid Principal Applications Specialist, will give a 20-minute overview of the latest release of Media Composer software including: capture, monitor, and output support with AJA Io Express; and the PhraseFind option for an all new way to find the right clips fast. No matter what NLE you use, come mingle with your fellow editors, see the creative process done by an editor behind one of the most successful television shows in recent history, and discover more open and interactive ways of working with Media Composer 5.5.

About Michael Krulik:
Michael started working with and presenting non-linear technology in the early days with the first PC editing system called EMC (Editing Machines Corporation). "We were capturing baseband video onto Magneto-Optical disks and the resulting video was captured at such a low resolution, you could only use the software for offline editorial decisions. You could not even see if someone was blinking their eyes."
As Non-linear technology evolved, he used, demonstrated and trained on Media 100, Panasonic’s PostBox, Softimage DS and, of course, Avid.
For over 18 years, Michael has worked with the editors, directors, producers and visual effects teams in the Film, Television and Broadcast industry and has devoted most of his career to working with manufacturers of technology and evangelizing their tools.

8:30PM - 9:00PM - Break
In the lobby will be many FCS Gurus. This is your chance to ask questions. No questions? Then talk to each other. The break is a chance to hang out and meet and greet and get your problems solved and who knows, get a job. You never know who you are going to meet at lafcpug. Snacks and Beer and Wine will be on sale in the lobby. Proceeds go to the Gallery Theater.

9:00PM - 9:50PM - Editing "LOST" - Chris Nelson
"LOST" film Editor Chris Nelson will discuss his essential role in producing one of television's biggest hits. Learn more about the processes behind the multiple award nominations and wins for "LOST" and "Mad Men", and gain insight for how you can stand out as an Editor to get jobs in a competitive environment.
Join us for an open dialog and see the process first hand as you are taken through various Editor’s cuts and how they evolve. Discover how Chris works with his peers and fine tune video to create the final production using Avid Media Composer.
