Get out of the house and into lafcpug!

July 28, 2010

"Plug-ins and 3D"

This month we welcome Boris and the Foundry, a new rock and roll band from Finland.

No, not really, but Boris returns to lafcpug for the first time in many years to show off the latest and greatest plug-ins from their amazing collection. Also for the first time at lafcpug, the boys from the Foundry will be in town and will show off Keylight and FurnaceCore for FCP.

Plus the boys from ProMax return to show you "What you need to do 3D." Hardware and software. Good, better and best. A must see if you are into 3D.

Plus, we will have another round of Stump the Gurus, show and tells, and of course, World Famous Raffle. And the FCP Tip/Trick of the Month by Steve Kanter! Also there will be time for you to get up in front of everyone and say what you need to say.

lafcpug generally meets every 4th Wednesday of the Month
Meetings are open to public and ALL beginning through advanced FCS users and Digital Story Tellers are welcome
First come best seat.
Admission is $5.00 at the door. No registration required for this meeting

Agenda (Subject to change)

6:45- 7:15PM - Stump the Gurus
Join FCS Gurus Jon Chappell and Steve Kanter as they will attempt to answer all of your questions and solve all of your problems concerning FCS. If they can't solve your problem or answer your question, then you go home with a problem, but you still got out of the house, so that's not a bad thing.

7:20PM - 7:30PM - Announcements
This is a chance to get up and ask for a job, offer job opportunities, announce your film or service, or tell a bad joke. Be brief.

7:35PM - 8:00PM - What do I need to do 3D? - Rob Brambila and Jess Hartman
3D is the latest breakthrough technology that has everyone talking in Hollywood. If you want to produce high-quality 3D creations then you need to know what kind of editing platforms you need in order to produce 3D with Final Cut Pro. ProMAX, who just happen to be one of the best VARs out there, has configured three editing platforms which include Mac Pro Dual Tower 2.26Ghz, NVIDIA Quadro graphic card by PNY, Final Cut Studio, and the latest 3D monitors. Together this will produce a quality 3D editing station. Plus they will tell you what software you need. Don't miss this.

8:05PM - 8:30PM - Boris Plugins for FCP and AE - Larry Jordan and James Rankin
FCS Guru Larry Jordan will show off the Boris Continuum Complete 7 FxPlug in Apple Final Cut Pro. He will then export his program sequence from FCP to Adobe After Effects using Boris XML Transfer. Then Boris Authorized Trainer James Rankin will jump in and show Boris Continuum Complete 7 AE in AE.

8:35PM - 9:00PM - Break
In the lobby will be many FCS Gurus. This is your chance to ask questions. No questions? ProMax will be in the lobby showing off their editing and storage solutions. The break is a chance to hang out and meet and greet and get your problems solved and who knows, get a job. You never know who you are going to meet at lafcpug. Snacks and Beer and Wine will be on sale in the lobby. Proceeds go to the Gallery Theater.

9:00PM - 9:30PM - Furnacecore for FCP & Keylight - The Foundry
The twelve plug-ins that make up FURNACECORE encapsulate the key technologies of the Academy Award-winning FURNACE toolset. These tools all use state-of-the-art technology, much of it hinging on motion estimation, to reduce the hard grind of day-to-day compositing. KEYLIGHT is an award-winning production-proven blue and green screen keyer. KEYLIGHT is simple to use and is particularly good at tackling reflections, semi-transparent areas and hair. Because spill suppression is built in, often selecting the screen colour is all you need to do to extract the matte and seat the foreground into the background so it looks photographed rather than composited.

9:35PM - 9:45PM - FCP Tip/Trick of the Month - Steven Kanter
Final Cut Studio Master Trainer Steve Kanter shows us some powerful but simple techniques for setting, moving and pasting motion keyframes, including a way to copy and paste a single keyframe.

9:50PM - 10:00PM - "Lynn Redgrave" - Les Perkins - Show and Tell
Les Perkins, who has presented before, has won more than 65 awards as a Producer/Editor/Writer, creating documentaries for Disney DVDs, and editing TV series and promos on Discovery, PBS, and Disney Channel. He also creates celebrity tributes and will share a brief memorial tribute to actress Lynn Redgrave, shown last month at the annual L.A. Actors Fund Tony Awards Party. Les' website is www.LesIsMoreProductions.com.
