"Smoke 2013, The Amazing Spider-Man and Sizzle Reels."

Join us for a special Summer night of learning, networking and an air conditioned theatre. Autodesk's Marc-Andre Ferguson will make the trip from Autodesk Headquarters in Montreal to show off the all new Smoke 2013. Marc-André will be joined by Kanen Flowers, Creative Director at Scruffy.TV

Plus Editor Alan Edward Bell will wow us with the workflow he used on the hit movie "Amazing Spider-Man."

Plus Editor Shane Ross on "Editing a Sizzle Reel" when only given YouTube links and minimal direction.

Plus Stump the Gurus, World Famous Raffle and who knows what else.

Also, and this is BIG. We will demo a new 2K projector at this meet. If we like it and it works, we then go out and beg for money to buy it. Note: All the audio and visual equipment we use was donated by several companies and is on permanent loan to the Gallery Theatre for ALL to use.

You must register if you plan to attend.

NOTE: lafcpug generally meets every 4th Wednesday of the Month
Meetings are open to public and ALL beginning through advanced Digital Story Tellers are welcome

6:45- 7:10PM - Stump the Gurus
Join Gurus
Andrew Balis, Michael Kammes, Larry Jordan and Shane Ross as they will attempt to answer all of your questions and solve all of your problems concerning FCS and FCPX, Avid, Premiere Pro and anything else you can think of. If they can't solve your problem or answer your question, then you go home with a problem, but you still got out of the house, so that's not a bad thing.

7:15PM - 7:30PM - Announcements
The latest from our sponsor at AJA. Also this is a chance for you to get up and say whatever it is you want to say. Ask for a job, introduce yourself, sell your movie. This is your time so use it.

7:30PM - 7:45PM - Editing a Sizzle Reel - Shane Ross
Editor Shane Ross will show us how he edited a sizzle reel using only YouTube links and minimal direction

About Shane Ross
Shane Ross is a freelance editor living and working in Los Angeles. He's worked on shows for The Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, The Discovery Channel, History Channel, National Geographic…just to name a few. He has a blog, Little Frog in High Def, a podcast, The Edit Bay (on iTunes), and is a help forum junkie. It's a wonder he gets anything done.








7:45PM - 8:30PM - Smoke 2013 - Marc-Andre Fergusson and Kanen Flowers
Autodesk's Marc-André Ferguson  will make the trip from Autodesk Media & Entertainment Headquarters in Montreal to show off the all new Smoke 2013. Marc-André will be joined by Kanen Flowers, Creative Director at Scruffy.TV and the creative mind behind That Post Show and That Media Show. Kanen will talk about his workflow for That Media Show using Smoke.

About Marc-Andre Fergusson
Marc-André Ferguson is the Founder of Final Cut Montreal
User Group and is Product Evangelist for Smoke at Autodesk. Marc-André has been involved in the film and video industry since 1995 as a director, editor, trainer and consultant. Marc-André also founded Luminance, a specialized training and consulting services on Apple software and  technologies, for the film and television industry. He was one of the original product designers on Smoke for Mac and he is now an active blogger on AREA, the Autodesk M&E digital community.

Kanen Flowers is the troublemaker behind
Scruffy.TV  – he is the host of That Post Show and Scruffy Thinking, and the Writer & Creative Director for That Media Show and the upcoming HERO PUNK web-series . He writes code and generates words and pictures, sometimes together. You can follow him on twitter.



8:30PM - 9:00PM - Break
In the lobby will be many FCP, Avid and Premiere Gurus. This is your chance to ask questions. No questions? Then talk to each other. Also in the lobby will be Tery Williams and Christina Oliver from brand new lafcpug Platinum Sponsor AJA. Also, brand new lafcpug sponsor, Hot Pixel Post will be there to answer all your post production questions. Also, Smoke 2013 will be in the lobby. It will be a PACKED lobby. The break is a chance to hang out and meet and greet and get your problems solved and who knows, get a job. You never know who you are going to meet at lafcpug. Snacks and Beer and Wine will be on sale in the lobby. Proceeds go to the Gallery Theater.

9:00PM - 9:45PM - Editing "The Amazing Spider-Man" - Alan Edward Ball
Editor
Alan Edward Bell will share a bit of the workflow he used on the edit of the recent hit movie, "Amazing Spider-Man." Alan will share some stories, and show us how he uses Eyeon fusion's connect plugin to create performance enhancing effects. There will be time for questions.

About Alan Edward Bell
Alan Edward Bell is an autodidact, born and raised in Los Angeles. He started his career as a rock climbing and backpacking guide in the early eighties. Tired of being poor he decided to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. Norman Hollyn (famous editor and now head of the USC editing track) gave Alan his first break in the industry in 1984 on the film "Daddy's Boys" produced by Roger Corman. Afterwards Alan went on to work with his long time mentor and friend Robert Lieghton on many of the early films of Rob Riener. Most recently he cut "The Amazing Spiderman" directed by Marc Webb and produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment. For a full list of his credits please check out his IMDB credit list here.

How to get to the Gallery Theater at Barnsdall Art Park

The Gallery Theater at Barnsdall Art Park
4800 Hollywood Boulevard
(between Vermont and Normandie)
Hollywood, CA 90027

Enter through the gate on Hollywood Blvd just West of Berendo. The theater is at the top of the hill, adjacent to the art gallery.

From US 101 (heading South),
take the Hollywood Boulevard exit.
Turn left at the end of the exit ramp onto Hollywood Boulevard.
Turn right into the entrance to Barnsdall Art Park at 4800 Hollywood Boulevard. (you will only see a parking lot. Drive to top of hill to find the Gallery Theater)
The Gallery Theater is in the center of the park.

From US 101 (heading North),
take the Vermont Avenue exit.
Turn right at the end of the exit ramp onto Vermont Avenue.
Turn left onto Hollywood Boulevard.
Turn left into the entrance to Barnsdall Art Park at 4800 Hollywood Boulevard. (you will only see a parking lot. Drive to top of hill to find the Gallery Theater)
The Gallery Theater is in the center of the park.

Metro Red Line
Yes, Los Angeles has a subway and if possible you ought to use it. Riders are dropped of at Sunset and Vermont, one long block from the Art Park. More info on the Red Line can be found here.

Note on Parking: Parking is FREE. There is ample parking on top of hill near the Art Park. Parking extends around the perimeter of the Park. NOTE: Please park your car diagonally even though the spaces are not marked that way. Wheelchair access: Park in the lot next to the Hollyhock house (you will see a handicap parking sign), come into the theatre entrance, and take the elevator down. There will be space in the front of the theatre for wheelchairs.

Before or after the meeting, there is a fine restaurant row on Vermont between Hollywood and Franklin (just around the corner from the park). There are also a number of funky ethic eateries along Hollywood Blvd.
