Capture cards, pro res 422 and HDV compression questions

Hello I am new to this forum...referred here by Ken Stone

Quick questions.

I work on a mac quad core and use the latest FCP.

I shoot on a Z1P but this will change next year...maybe new sony xdcam ex

My question: I am thinking of capturing in prores 422 or uncompressed HD for better quailty...doco work.

Is there any benefit REAL benefit to capture cards with heavily compress HDV (Z1P) tape material? Are there any capture cards myths?

HDV on mindv tape in heavily compressed what will I gain by capturing via capture card?

Finally is there any easy cheap way to capture pro res 422 thru firewire into my mac pro?

Peoples experiences and advise welcome.

Cheers

Using Black Magic Intensity Pro here to convert HDV to proRes on capture. Input to Intensity Pro may be either HDMI or component. The card also provides HDMI and component output from timeline. Good value for money, about £230 here inthe UK.
