assuming that you mean to burn to a DVD-Video - one that will play on a set top box;
it depends on what program you're using to create the DVD.
Hate to say it, but consult the documentation.
If it's a professional authoring software like Encore, then you can probably export using compressor to create standard MPEG-2 and AC3 files. This is better then letting the authoring program do it because you at least have some 'control' over the compression quality rather then letting the burning software just 'handle it'
