Yes, unfortunately. The internal MacPro add-ons that we were used to don't seem to be in Mac's future. Good thing that most pro video hardware vendors are switching to cable "pluggables." I may grab a current MacPro before they're gone.

And flip4mac is not free, as far as I remember.

If this rumor is true, it would mean either one of two things: the MacPro is gone for good, and that Apple wants to keep its audio-visual professional users.
Non-glossy iMacs has been a regular complaint; good thing that Apple seems to still listen to us. I might get one of those rumored iMac to replace my ancient desktop for FCP use, as many here are already doing.

That does it, David. Thanks. I'll make sure my new Mac has Lion.
I don't think the mountain cat will be any better either. It looks like Lion OS will be the end of the line for me. I'm not dumping my Macs just because Apple ends support for older machines.

hmmm. I had decided to stay with Snow Leopard, for the reasons mentioned by Shane. But considering to update my 2008 Macbook Pro, I'd like to read more of positives like Jude's.
I'd hate to get a lion laptop and then find that my EOTL FCP 7 won't work. (Will never use FPC X!)

I've been using FCP 2 (FCP 5.1.4) on an PowerMac G5 (1.8 KHz, 4 GB RAM) with Tiger (10.5.4) without problems. I think you can go up to FCP 6 with that setup. Of course, it's outdated, but still workable.
Apple hasn't come up with a really, really good up-to-date MacPro to make me leave my old PPC.

Makes me feel not so alone, thanks. I can't understand those who like mirror screens, either.
I miss the days when Apple was still struggling and gave us the (free) option of getting a matte screen when buying their portables; 2008, 15" my last purchase. I've resisted having to pay extra for a new MBP with the screen that I need.
Do you think Apple still listens to serious users? Nah! Stev

No kidding. I really like editing on the Mac environment, but Apple is definitely losing it, and losing us. What happened to their pioneering efforts on ergonomics on personal computing? What were they thinking when they decided to end the non-glossies?
Glossy screens for gamers, no big deal; they don't care about their well-being, I guess. But for someone who wants a Macbook or iMac for work,

Like many here, I'm losing faith on Apple's really showing commitment to pro video editors. I'm not sure if I'll see a much expected MacPro update to replace my ancient Mac tower. In the meantime, I'm reading more and more about the current iMacs as a the likely replacement; but I can't see myself editing on a reflective screen.
Do any of you know of a solution, maybe a third party fix for the g

I started reading Andy's column in Spanish in Mexican newspapers as a kid. Since moving to California and getting married, for the last 30 yrs, Andy's commentary was usually the best part of 60 Mins.
Thanks, Mr. Rooney.

Sad news about Apple. again. I hope it's only a rumor. I've been waiting for a MacPro update with all current goodies: USB 3, Thunderbolt, and of course, the latest processor to replace my aging PowerMac G5. I'll wait a little longer before getting what's available now.

For what I read, it sounds like Thomas is not well versed on this. So, why overload the answer (kind of intimidating). Let him just follow Derek's simple tip, which it works. I'd also apply the Photoshop's (Video) De-Interlace filter.

I hoped to find more encouraging words about FCPX. What I just read from early buyers at the App Store don't look good either. Since its announcement at NAB, I was afraid that X was a attempt to fix something that wasn't broken. Or a deliberate move to go after the vast consumer market and dump professional users.
The X definitely breaks away from FCP. What are we supposed to do with archived pr

Ah, those good old days. I couldn't get FCP 1.0, but it made buy my superfast G3, 450 MHz, with a whole 20 GB HD and OS8.5 so I could use FCP 1.2 as soon as it was out.
Then, start looking for other guys like Michael Horton, remember?, and other folks we were meeting somewhere in L.A -some of them R.I.P.- to learn together about this new thing.
Cheers to FCP 1.0!

Right, Joey. Me? I'm not going to take any rumors seriously until I see the "official" announcement on apple.com. As of this morning, there's nothing there about the new FCP X. Which, by itself, worries me a little even more. Were those guys bragging about the new FCP last night really from Apple? If this is really good, how come the site is quiet about the revolutionary, new FCP.

I often need to convert to .flv for online delivery. But sometimes the screen for the link to the videopodcast shows black on the webpage. I've tried using about 5 frames of static image to begin the video; and sometimes it works. But others, even by using a full sec. of static image won't prevent the black screen from showing instead of the title image.

Ben is right, as usual.
Anyone who really, really wants to copy something will find a way to do so. And even once the video is out of the original DVD, the only way to ownerproof video these days is to run a bug from start to finish, which is what almost every network is doing, including PBS.
Unfortunately, some bugs are so irritatingly intrusive, like the one used by my local KCET (Los Angeles
