I've been using my newer IMAC to compress video but its still a 3 year old IMAC. I also have a PowerMac Tower but its an old computer. Machine Name: Power Mac G5 Machine Model: PowerMac7,2 CPU Type: PowerPC 970 (2.2) Number Of CPUs: 1 CPU Speed: 1.8by kjoske - Café LA Re: Will Snow Leopard Make Compressing Video Faster??? - 14 years agoThank you all. Okay, you can tell I am learning I don't understand 64-Bit Apps - I think the new snow leopard comes with that. With FCP7 and a "new machine" that has the following specifications will I be able to render and product video faster? IMAC 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB 1.0TB Serial ATA Drive ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB The computer comesby kjoske - Café LA Re: WILL SNOW LEOPARD MAKING COMPRESSING VIDEO FASTER??? - 14 years agoNoah, My Mac is not an intel and I understand I have to have an intel computer (which the new Macs are) to run the new FCP7 software? So you are saying that it is not a new computer but the new FCP7 software that will make rendering faster? Is there anyway to make a guess as to "how much faster" the rendering will be? i.e. a 4 minute video can render in 7 hours instead of the 1by kjoske - Café LA WILL SNOW LEOPARD MAKING COMPRESSING VIDEO FASTER??? - 14 years agoI have been waiting to purchase a new IMAC when they had snow leopard already installed in it and also I am going to purchase the latest FCP. My question is: Will I be able to compress on the new FCP and my new IMac "any faster" than I am compressing on my old IMac and FCP Pro 5? I am using the regular compressor that comes with FCP Pro 5, I have not utilized the quicktime Compressoby kjoske - Café LA Re: HD DVD Camcorder/What to BUY - 14 years agoNoah, grafixjoe, John K , Jeff Harrell Thank all of you for taking the time to respond, yes I am "learning" the site with the cameras is great, I figured it would be best for me to buy my own equipment because obviously I will need to transfer again in the future and it adds up real fast.by kjoske - Café LA Re: HD DVD Camcorder/What to BUY - 14 years agoI checked not in El Paso, Texas. Also I heard there is something called a Sony tape transfer piece of equipment that does the same thing as a camera, do you know where I can purchase one and are they less expensive than a camera. I have been quoted a price of $50 an hour to have someone transfer the video for me since I have 9 hours of video it seems to me that it would be best for me just tby kjoske - Café LA Re: HD DVD Camcorder/What to BUY - 14 years agoNoah, Derekmok OK I stand corrected it is HDV The tapes I have are mini DV digital video cassettes I want to transfer them to my IMac in FCP and I understand the only way I can do this is to purchase a HD camcorder - I would appreciate your help.by kjoske - Café LA HD DVD Camcorder/What to BUY - 14 years agoCan anyone give me some advise on purchasing a HD DVD Camcorder which records to mini DVD cassettes? I had some 1080i HD video taken on a Sony HD DVD Camcorder which records to cassette the cassettes were given to me. I need to transfer the video to my external hard drive I understand that I can purchase an "inexpensive" HD DVD Camcorder to do this. I am using FCP PRO 5, I am on a G5by kjoske - Café LA Re: CAN YOU INCREASE THE SOUND VOLUME IN DVD - 14 years agoNick, thank you. I figured that out the hard way.by kjoske - DVD Studio Pro Re: CAN YOU INCREASE THE SOUND VOLUME IN DVD - 14 years agoJake, Where do I check these settings at, on my computer preferences, in FCP or in DVD Studio Pro? ------ Also you may want to check your Dolby settings have: Dialog Norm: -31 dBFS Comp Preset: None Un-check L-P Filter & DC filter.by kjoske - DVD Studio Pro Re: CAN YOU INCREASE THE SOUND VOLUME IN DVD - 14 years agoJake Okay, now I am getting closer to the answer, how do you turn the DVD Studio Pro volume UP? When you are in the process of actually burning the DVD. If you are referring to the DVD "player" that plays and opens the final DVD, yes I turn the volume to MAX.by kjoske - DVD Studio Pro Re: CAN YOU INCREASE THE SOUND VOLUME IN DVD - 14 years agoI have increased my volume on my computer to Maximum When I created the original soundtrack on FCP I went in and put up the volume to maximum and then I used the filters to increase the sound up another 18 points, then I compressed the FCP file to an AC3 format using Compressor 2 that comes with the FCP package, again I turned the volume to maximum on my computer. finally I imputed the "asby kjoske - DVD Studio Pro Re: CAN YOU INCREASE THE SOUND VOLUME IN DVD - 14 years agoThank you. My audio sound is an aiff and an AC3 when I compress us using the compressor in FCP. Your right I was dumb not to backup, but the problem I have been having is when I make a copy(s) of my program then for some reason FCP gets confused and will not render my original because I have i.e. 2-3 copies of it in my hard drive so out of desperation to get get FCP to render I dumped all ofby kjoske - DVD Studio Pro Re: NEW FCP SOFTWARE - 14 years agoMichael Horton -- Okay so from your response, I guess the answer is that I DON'T NEED 8GBS of Ram. I don't know if this is the right thread but wanted you to know all of your tutorials and things have been GREAT and really helpful.by kjoske - Café LA Re: What do I need to upgrade my System for the new FCP - 14 years agoI tried producing videos with my G4 Laptop. It was a disaster. It gets too hot and it does not have enough RAM memory. Actually, I was surprised to hear you say that 6.9G of RAM memory was not enough. How much would you recommend. I have been working with 512K which is why I'll be so happy to get more RAM memory. I'm a grad student and produce a lot of 5-7 minute educational/training videoby kjoske - Café LA Re: NEW FCP SOFTWARE - 14 years agoThanks, yes the new IMAC comes with 4G of memory, but it costs around $900 from MAC to add another 4G in order to make it 8G. I love my IMAC but memory or lack of RAM memory has been the problem, it has two rendering speeds slow and slower. I am reading the rest of the threads, I didn't realize that you can buy RAM memory for the MAC from a non-mac source. I live in the U.S. At the college boby kjoske - Café LA NEW FCP SOFTWARE - 14 years agoI am planning on purchasing the new FCP upgrade and I guess a new IMAC since I understand the new FCP will not work on my old IMAC. Will the new IMAC Computers with 1TB 3.06 GHZ be fast enough to render the new FCP quickly, I know that you can purchase more memory for about $900 but will it make "THAT MUCH" difference in rendering speed for FCP?by kjoske - Café LA Re: Motion 2 - 14 years agoIs there anyway in which you can delete Motion 2 from my system entirely, such as a remove software. I think that is going to be the only way in which I can get Motion reloaded to my system. Right now I am in trouble because obviously all of my FCP projects will not render because they cannot find my Motion items that were uploaded to FCP, I can't remake them because my Motion will not open andby kjoske - Motion CAN YOU INCREASE THE SOUND VOLUME IN DVD - 14 years agoIs there anyway in which you can increase the sound volume in DVD Studio Pro THROUGH DVD STUDIO PRO AFTER you have added your video and soundtrack into the program? My video is good and my soundtrack was good the first time I burned them into DVDS. Now I am going back to burn more copies and it appears that the soundtrack is difficult to hear. I have the volume on my computer set to full sounby kjoske - DVD Studio Pro Re: SAVING FCP FILES ON EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES - 14 years agoSlowly but surely I am figuring things out through the process of elimination. My FCP + DVD files will open with the message (duplicate serial number on another network). I "THINK" the message was based on the fact that while I was working on my IMAC, I also have a G5 Tower that I was using to compress video on. I think the airport card was picking up the signal, I did not even knowby kjoske - Café LA Re: SAVING FCP FILES ON EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES - 14 years agoI am not on the internet when I am working on my FCP files. So I don't really know what network (duplicate serial number on another network) the message is talking about and I am only working with one LACIE external drive at a time. Also I am the only user of the computer. Is there another way I can take care of the (duplicate serial number on another network)? I can't even open FCP from my ownby kjoske - Café LA Re: SAVING FCP FILES ON EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES - 14 years agoNo absolutely not, I purchased it brand new and still have the box and everything it came with along with the receipt. Would it help if I reinstall the entire package again. i.e DVD Pro 4, FCP5, Motion 2? I have all of the original disks.by kjoske - Café LA Re: What do I need to upgrade my System for the new FCP - 14 years agoTo all of the above thank you. I was saving my money for a new IMAC the one with 1TG 3.06 GHZ 24" screen at the University bookstore, I am a graduate student, but then I read where MAC OSX Snow Leopard is the latest software and it has not shipped with the IMac Computer yet so I didn't want to spend every penny I had on an "older" outdated IMAC, I wanted to wait for them to ship wby kjoske - Café LA SAVING FCP FILES ON EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES - 14 years agoMac OSX Version 10.4.11 Processor 2 Ghz Power PC G5 Memory 512 MB DDR SDRAM IMac G5 Final Cut Pro 5 DVD Studio Pro 4 I have made several FCP projects and I have captured and logged the video to individual external hard drives (LACIEs) now when I try to open one of the FCP files from i.e. LACIE 1 the computer gives me a message that the FCP file cannot open because I have a duplicate seriaby kjoske - Café LA What do I need to upgrade my System for the new FCP - 14 years agoCan I upload my system to operate the new FCP?
