But then, I'm one of the spoilt ones too....as I write this on my new MacBookPro while capturing to the G5... Ahhhh.... Yes expensive way to do it, but worth its (not very much) weight in gold... I've googled my bum off with no luck... Has anyone got one yet? And to update, my MBP is running FCS 5.1 like a demon - as fast as my G5 J.by jusrus - Café LA Re: Should I sell my Dual 2ghz G5 for MacBook Pro - 17 years agoI've made the move - picked up a 'discontinued' 1.83 MBP 15 today at a bargain price. Hanging onto the G5 for the time being, but reckon it might go pretty soon - don't think I really need two high powered machines... And te G5 still has 1 month warranty left, so the buyer could add applecare if they wanted to... J.by jusrus - Café LA Slight O/T - File sizes for PC? - 17 years agoHi guys, Thanks for all your help re: Digital 8 question. My next problem is that I burnt data DVDs for my client, some up to 4.2 gig in size. They were native .DV files, and I can't recall having had this problem in the past. He can open the smaller (less than 1 gig) files, but the others are coming up in Quicktime saying 'not valid movie files'. I know this is a FCP forum, but its related,by jusrus - Café LA Re: Sony Digital 8 and FCP? - 17 years agoThanks for ALL your responses. At the end of the day, I panic too much! Got the camera, firewire port, and everything was hunky dory. Not the world's best images, but did what the client wanted, and that's all you can ask for. The model number for those interested was sony dcr-trv355e I absolutely LOVE it when sometimes things just work. you guys are legends....cheers..by jusrus - Café LA Re: Sony Digital 8 and FCP? - 17 years agoThanks BJ - I'll chase up the model number and check it.by jusrus - Café LA Sony Digital 8 and FCP? - 17 years agoHey all, Quick question I can't find an answer to on the net, or in the FCP manual. I have a client with a Sony Digital 8 camera. It has DV out apparently, but I can find no reference to how to capture this footage into FCP. Should I just use uncontrolable device settings? Or is there another way? Does anyone have first hand experience? Thanks...Justin.by jusrus - Café LA Re: Advice Needed on Deck to Convert PAL NTSC - 17 years agoI would suggest buying a cheap PAL camera to use as a deck. The one I purchased brand new was a Canon MV800i - $325AU after cash back. Anyone want to buy my G5 2.0 Dual?!!?! Hehehe. Justin.by jusrus - Café LA Re: MacBook and FCS - 17 years agoNick, I assume you are referring to the wireless keyboard/mouse not airport? I have a logitech trackball that I use every day with no problems - it is RF not Bluetooth tho. Anyone used a MacBook yet? Justin.by jusrus - Café LA Re: MacBook and FCS - 17 years agoNaming convention I reckon is :- MB = Macbook MBP = MacBookPro OK, I just went to my local NextByte in Melbourne who have one on display. Quiet in there, so I played with it for 15 minutes or so: - 1. The glossy screen is a bit whatever. Yes, it is different, but they have a heap of lights, fluros etc in there, and I noticed no reflections like I have done with comparable cheap PC laptop scby jusrus - Café LA MacBook and FCS - 17 years agoAn interesting link here - Now the thing I find really interesting is that I use my PB 12" 867 with 640mb RAM quite successfully with Final Cut 5 etc. Sure, it doesn't have the grnt of my G5 2ghz dual, but it is more than handy for quick edits on the road. So surely the only difference between the new Macbooks and my old PB is a HELL of a lot of processor power, and the onboard graphiby jusrus - Café LA Re: POLL : Do Lacies Actually Suck Or Not? - 17 years agoJude is obviously trying to put this one to bed -which I think it a good thing, although I would love some opionions on chipsets - read my post above. You must have installed the AU or VST versions of Waves as well as the RTAS. Just in case you are unaware, RTAS is ProTools, the others are for Garageband/Logic etc etc. Just remove the AU and VST versions of your Waves plugins and you will be away. As long as you don't need them in Garageband/Loby jusrus - Café LA Re: POLL : Do Lacies Actually Suck Or Not? - 17 years agoAnother quick aside - does anyone have the links to the battle about chipsets? I was always under the impression that the Oxford Chipset was good (the one used in Lacie/Icecube), and the ProLogic ones were terrible. I am right in middle of a problem with a ProLogic kinda no name case that is giving us headaches - has anyone else experienced issues with this enclosure? Cheers...Justin.by jusrus - Café LA Re: HELP Please!: Need to Run FCP 5 on G4-500 Dual - 17 years agoI got 25 hits on versiontracker.com for "video capture" - I would just go through them 1 by 1. I personally use FTV as I video monitor on live shoots and find it very handy - not sure about its capturing capabilities though. Good luck Gary, I too hate it when a machine becomes obselete - anyone want my Powerbook G4867 that I paid $4000 for 4 years ago? I still use it every day!by jusrus - Café LA Re: POLL : Do Lacies Actually Suck Or Not? - 17 years agoSorry, in my haste to write the post I forgot to specify - I have 1 old first gen icecube, the rest are second gen: - Like that one (no endorsement of company, just the first link I could find. We were constantly having problems as this was the studios (audio, I know, sorry) main backup drive. Can I also say that my problems magically disappeared one day - not quite sure why but my guess is a Quicktime update actually fixed the issue. My question is related to workflow. What I would like to do is apply the same keyframes and motion on one clip to a whole lot of clips. Is there a way to do this? I do something very similar when using effects by copying and pasting the effect in the viewer window, and have found it to be vby jusrus - Café LA |
