The other one is to select an effect in the effect browser then right click and choose 'open a copy in motion' (if it's a basic effect which comes with FCPX). This will immediately add it to your library and you can do your changes in Motion and save them. What I don't like: it can really blow up the amount of filtersby Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X XML based app to import subtitles into FCPX - 12 years agoPrelude: about Motion based (sub)titling workflows. They been around for quite a while in let's say limited way. See my little movie about that a did quite while ago: Meanwhile the Motion connection to FCPX (and Motion itself) is way more matured. But there is a big BUT when it comes to interchange (sub)titles via the current XML. The Motion templates don't allow to export/import anyby Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X Re: speed change quality - 12 years agoI think it always depends on the footage. With some you will get good results with every tool you're using, with some you will get bad or some how good results, with other all tools are bad. So from my experience you should have them all; by the time you will learn which app to use with that kind of footage you got. Optical flow can be implemented in the one or other way. In many cases allby Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X Finally I understood a little bit more of FCPX - 12 years agoWithin the the Transform menu you can do the x or y offset in px. Stupid as I am I thought px means pixel, didn't work. I searched Wikipedia which didn't help. Now I figured out what it means: it's an abbreviation for perxent, which is the Apple synonym for percent. I hope I could help some here Andreasby Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X Re: typewriter effect - 12 years agoHi, Once upon a time I create a little app which creates some Typewriter effects. But you need a screen recording software to make it work. With the current OS FCP XML is not working. But you can copy any text and paste it into the app. Then start your screen recording software and start automatic typing. There are options for different types of typewriters, option for delay when you need tby Andreas Kiel - Café LA Some thoughts about some differen kind of large projects - 12 years agoThere was a thread about 'large' projects with FCPX on the Cow Many of my customers are working with subtitles, sometimes with different languages in the same show. And these can be large projects even with no video or sound. So I was asked whether I could do both an exporter for subtitles and an importer. The exporter is quite easy, but with the lack of tracks it can be pretty confusingby Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X Re: Favorite Filters & Transitions - 12 years agoSure you can do it this way (and I like that you can create your on stuff with motion easily), but it will blow your listing of fx in FCPX and if you work with several users you always have to copy the favorites. Andreasby Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X Re: Question to the NTSC members of this forum - 12 years agoThanks for the answers. My thoughts are, it's either 29.97 or 30. 30 could have NTSC timing like 24 could have NTSC timing, but 24 never never has DF even though it is 23.976 and finally would need a DF to display the correct timecode (wall clock). Seems to be complicated. Andreasby Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X Question to the NTSC members of this forum - 12 years agoI am living in the wonderful non drop PAL world. That doesn't mean I don't have to care about drops. With X there is one thing which makes me curious: why can you create a 29.97 project with both DF or NDF? 29.97 NDF had been an odd format for audio, but I've never seen that for video. Regards Andreasby Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X Re: About FCPXML ... - 12 years agoUnfortunately I don't know anything about AXEL, or better how to get access to it. Regards Andreasby Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X Re: 2010 iMac only has USB Ports, need Thunderbolt (?) - 12 years agoYou just need a FW800 to FW400 cable/adapter as the cams normally have FW400. An option could be something like this: - you still need a FW800/400 cable. Andreasby Andreas Kiel - Café LA Re: Editing a Feature with Subtitles - 12 years agoQuoteNick if i was a programmer, i would do these tasks via XML! XML is fine to change a massive amount of things inside a project in short time, but would be a not optimal solution for those things you described. So your macros should be fine. And I agree with Jude. Andreasby Andreas Kiel - Café LA Re: CAN I USE FCP 7 WITH A MACBOOK 2006 - 12 years agoJulia, It should work. Regards Andreasby Andreas Kiel - Café LA Re: Editing a Feature with Subtitles - 12 years agoHi Nick, As I said cmd-B will be a bit more time consuming since you always have to make sure whether the selection contains either all visible or all invisible clips. Using 2 tracks is way more efficient. The workflow using generators should be okay - subtitling 90 minutes per day is a lot of work. But if of all of the stuff is Loatian how do you get the translation? Regards Andreasby Andreas Kiel - Café LA Re: Editing a Feature with Subtitles - 12 years agoNick, If you use the enable/disable route make sure to do this by tracks as you can merge tracks just by dragging real lot of clips up/down as you can select all clips of a track. If you would use enable/disable for clips using the standard keyboard command it's a lot more time consuming as this command toggles visibility, which means you have to select each clip manually. One thing you couldby Andreas Kiel - Café LA Re: Editing a Feature with Subtitles - 12 years agoNick, That bad performance with subtitles is a known issue which never had been fixed. Those times I worked on 'subtitle heavy' projects with one language only I always worked with 2 subtitle tracks and switched 1 to disabled. Then manually moved parts of the subtitles to the disabled track temporary. That's a bad workaround, but at least it faster than always rendering. Andreasby Andreas Kiel - Café LA Re: How to Delete Text Effects from FCP X Library - 12 years agoThanks to sthomas_77 I made a simple little app which allows to remove Motion (Effects, Generators, Titles, Transitions) FX from the FCPX app. The templates are not deleted, but moved to the app's own folder in /Library/Application Support/fxMover. A future version will allow to re-install the moved templates into to FCPX inside the application. At the moment you've to do that manually. Andreby Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X Re: Afghanistan and FCP X - 12 years agoYes there are some peaceful parts left. But some of them look horrible still after all the war times. Regarding the movie I'm with Derek. For this kind of movie you just need good footage a good script and then you can edit with more or less any tool, if you are a good editor. I like the movie as it shows all the 'nice' parts of Afghanistan and it's people - I've seen other parts (only my cby Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X Re: How to Delete Text Effects from FCP X Library - 12 years agoFunny thing is that Apple does use folder names they always say not to use because of the UNIX based OS - like "Build In/Out" Andreasby Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X Re: How to Delete Text Effects from FCP X Library - 12 years agoWow, Thanks. Andreasby Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X Re: FCP Help - 12 years agoThanks for your answers. I finally used Craig's suggestion to print to PDF. Regards Andreasby Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X FCP Help - 12 years agoI'm a bit confused. I try to get a bit deeper into FCPX and therefore I do need to look into the help menu sometimes. Not a problem, though I think to be online anytime, anywhere is not my thing. So I'm online (otherwise I couldn't send this post) and FCPX does tell me "The selected topic is currently unavailable. To see all Final Cut Pro Help, you must be connected to the Internet."by Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X About FCPXML ... - 12 years ago...and how much sense FCPXML it does make for subtitles. Gerard aka Strypes mentioned in another thread that I'm obviously think about subtitles. If I do and look at the options with FCPXML this stuff is really garbage. I can't imagine why Apple didn't put a little more brain into the development. Some prelude: With a movie there might be several languages, both spoken and subtitled. Andreasby Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X Re: How to Delete Text Effects from FCP X Library - 12 years agoThat's an interesting question. I tried to figure out where the text templates are stored - to move them - but did not find anything. Andreasby Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X Question for Jon - 12 years agoJon, As I know you're also dealing with XML. Have you found a way to convert FCPX times to correct TC? It looks easy but I get a lot of bad values. Andreasby Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X Re: A Word of Advice - 12 years agoGerard gave a good description. My stuff is not only subtitles - though it makes a lot of my business. You can do subtitles with a lot of 3rd party apps with more or less any NLE more or less comfortable. But there is no NLE which shines there. And there are somehow at least as many subtitle formats as video formats. Another thing for me is multicam. I build up an XML workflow for the old vby Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X Re: A Word of Advice - 12 years agoI'm one of those people who figured out that FCPX in many cases is not the app I need and I can work with (at the moment). But PPro in it's current version also does not reflect my (and others) workflow. Also the Avid demo I tried didn't allow what I want to do. PPro came closest to the my old but very efficient workflow (which is also used by other big companies). From my point of view youby Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X Re: [OT] Unstable firewire hard drives performance in 220 volts countries - 12 years agoAs Gerard said - if you wan't to use a converter, quality is important. I'm in Europe, but have some stuff from Newertech bought in the US. I don't have any problems. I even sometimes run my laptop, drives and camera with a 12V to 240V transformer using either a bunch of motorbike batteries or a cars cigarette lighter connection.by Andreas Kiel - Café LA Re: Will FCPX output to tape via firewire?? - 12 years agoFor those who don't have an AJA, BMD or Matrox there is still the little Apple SimpleVideoOut available. It's thought for developers, but the compiled app is included within the archive. This app is basic, but for output over FireWire it's very neat. Andreasby Andreas Kiel - Café LA - X |
