It is a standard def (DV) camera.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: how do you rip videos from you tube? - 16 years agoIt's lucky they included that Zune compatibility. I met someone once who had one.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: deck not recognized while trying to capture - 16 years agoHave you checked the FAQ? Additionally, the firewire port fuse on those decks is extremely weak. You must plug the FW cable in when BOTH the computer and deck are powered down. Then turn the deck on, then the computer. If you attached the FW cable with either turned on, you may have blown the fuse. Then it's back to Sony for a month. But check the stuff in the FAQ.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: Cleaning up camera noise - 16 years agoI have a copy of a QT movie which used to (but does not anymore) reside on the Apple website which details how to treat your problem using Soundtrack Pro. I've used this method many, many times. It's pretty easy and fast but It's 10.6MB so I can e-mail it to you if you like. Just PM me your e-mail address. I think it might a helpful clip to have for the FAQ but that's not for me to decide. Iby TimJBD - Café LA Re: Outputting to Quicktime creates massive file. - 16 years agoFor instance, I'm ashamed to admit that I have no idea where FCP hides recordings done in the Voice Over Tool, and yet I use it all the time for M&E work. By the way, does anyone know? I find them in the capture scratch folder. How to control where they go separately? I don't know.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: AJA IO HD, Users? - 16 years agoI worked on (shooting, not editing) "$40 a Day with Rachael Ray" and we visited quite a few Oregon wineries. My favorite was: Evesham Wood We rolled up out of the blue and asked if we could shoot some footage in their vineyard and the owner, Russ, invited us in for a tasting. It was just me and my producer (not Rachael) and we spent the better part of three hours there. The winesby TimJBD - Café LA Re: Voice Over Tool DV Trouble - 16 years agoAssuming your Behringer outputs at line level or is capable of doing so, get a mini-plug adapter and run straight from the amp into the line-in on the side of your iMac (if it's on the side?). Open FCP with the amp turned on. Lay two minutes of slug into your timeline, set an inpoint. Then go to "tools -> voice over" and your VO tool opens. Set it to "line input" and you arby TimJBD - Café LA Re: Backing up Sony XDCAM Cards without capturing in FCP? - 16 years agoClip Browser does not work on PPC Macs. Yes, thanks. What he said.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: Backing up Sony XDCAM Cards without capturing in FCP? - 16 years agoYes, you can open the XDZ-P1 Clip Browsing software and the clips will go wherever you've designated. No need to open Final Cut.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: A bit OT: Image Sequences to FCP - 16 years agoWhere can this be seen? It sounds like something Andy Warhol would've liked.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: HDV compatibility list - 16 years agoJVC also uses MPEG 2 short GOP as opposed to long GOP (6 frames vs. 15, I think). The Canon HDV codec is also just different enough that it will have problems in a Sony cam or deck and vise versa. Also, the 24f from a Canon is different than Sony 24p (exception for F900) as the camera clocks at 48Hz instead of 60Hz.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: shooting 25p gets interlaced - 16 years agoNo, not the same. I have not used P2 cards so someone else will have to chime in. I don't believe those get interlaced as they record as it's data, not a video stream per se.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: shooting 25p gets interlaced - 16 years agoIt gets interlaced as it records to tape. In sequence settings, set field dominance to "none" then click on the "advanced" button and change your compressor to "Progressive".by TimJBD - Café LA Re: Soft boxes - 16 years agoPhotoflex and Chimera are the two biggies. You might pick up two small used ones for that kind of money. Check Ebay. That may not include the speed rings which will be another couple hundred (if bought new) and they are mostly light brand-specific.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: Any one working with a Sony XDCam EX? - 16 years agois that just for Super Tuesday? I think it will depend on how many packages they expect to pump out per day. If it's just one and can be FTP'ed, I expect we'll do HQ (even though that takes 40% longer than if in SD mode). That hasn't been the case as yet. Also, Iowa was the only place we had an extra camera so far (the EX1) so it was experimental. I'm not working Super Tuesday so it'll be someby TimJBD - Café LA Re: Any one working with a Sony XDCam EX? - 16 years agoI thought they were both .mxf and the transfer tool re-wrapped them into .mov and .mp4, no? On a seperate issue, it sounds like you bought an EX1? How are you handling your archiving?by TimJBD - Café LA Re: Any one working with a Sony XDCam EX? - 16 years agoCraig, That was winging it all the way (7 packages in 2 1/2 days). As for the DVC Pro vs. DV, it really was just done that way so I could export back out to disk because I had to use my camera to feed the packages. Hopefully it will not happen again this way. Speed-wise (which, for me, is concern #1) it works better to shoot as much in standard-def as possible. I wonder why it's a .mp4 wrappby TimJBD - Café LA Re: Any one working with a Sony XDCam EX? - 16 years agoI was editing with it at the Iowa caucus and had to integrate material shot with the EX1 (in 25mbs CBR mode), XDCam HD (in 35mbs VBR mode), NTSC anamorphic and NTSC (4:3) all into DV NTSC anamorphic timelines, edited as such, and exported back out to XDCam HD disks (in MY camera) set to record DVCam, all to be fed via satellite (using my camera). Importing from the SxS cards is extremely fastby TimJBD - Café LA Re: darth veider voice filter - 16 years agoMy son has a Darth Vader mask that processes his own voice through some sort of mic/speaker arrangement and it comes out with that effect. It's actually a pretty close approximation. And it has a button you can push to get the JEJ heavy breathing.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: just for FUN - your industry predictions for 2008 - 16 years ago1st Quarter ? Apple release the iPhone Nano (seeing as they have designed it already) (...) 3rd Quarter ? A 15 year old boy from Toledo, Ohio is hailed as the next Bill Gates when he discovers a use for Apple TV. He immediately files for divorce from parents who have appeared on 3 consecutive "Dr. Phil's". 4th Quarter ? Several executive-level sackings are announced as weaby TimJBD - Café LA Re: requirements for XDCAM HD - 16 years agoMatrox MXO I had a tough time getting it to work but it's pretty nice.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: POLL v2: Does HDV actually suck or not? - 16 years agoI believe it is to remove the long GOP as soon as possible to avoid complications later on. In Pro Res, you'll effectively be in all "I" frames, resulting in better calculation for effects, etc... a 'B' or a 'P' frame is a non-editable frame, when you make a cut at a point, Final Cut will create an 'I' frame at that point from the previous 'I' frame or else you'll simply not have picturby TimJBD - Café LA Re: POLL v2: Does HDV actually suck or not? - 16 years agoI vote Yes primarily because many broadcasters now accept it as an HD capturing medium. So the equation is pretty simple, if you can buy a $6k camera and get paid the same amount of money you'd get paid had you bought a $20-40k (+lens) camera, that's an easy choice. One reason they accept it is because they've all gotten hooked on integrating footage from Joe Sixpack and THEY all have HDV camby TimJBD - Café LA Re: Fttping an MPEG 2 - 16 years agoWe FTP this way frequently due to the fact that our K2/Profile server requires MPEG-2 for ingest and does not recognize any other container format. SWEET system! What I typically do is to export via Compressor and select "MPEG Program Stream" as the compression format. Once you've done that, you can go into your inspector window, click on the "quality" tab and adjust the siby TimJBD - Café LA Re: V.O DeckLilnk - 16 years agoIf you want to use the "voice over" tool built in to FCP, you need to provide a line-level input. Some USB mics ARE line-level like the Snowball Or you need a mixer or a mic -> line amp to use an XLR mic.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: PAL-to-NTSC - 16 years agoWe have a high-end Snell and Wilcox standards converter at work and you still get the three footballs BUT... you get them in real time.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: As always, thank you - NEW QUESTION - My footage looks great on my HI DEF monitor, but pixelated on our Plasma - 16 years ago23.98 fps? I don't think DVD accepts 23.98 fps- it's either PAL (25 FPS) OR NTSC (29.97 FPS). Strypes, This is NOT the case. Read THIS Go down to where it says "24p Delivery. I have used this method and you save 20% disk space by staying in 24p. The DVD player adds the pulldown back for viewing on TV sets.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: What is THAT ? - 16 years agoMy FCP instructor was a dude. And he didn't look too good in a bikini.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: Camera Question to be edited in FCP - 16 years agoWhen capturing the 60i clips, DO NOT check the "remove advance pulldown" checkbox. That is only for the 24pA clips. Once you've captured you apply the filter to the 60i clips that you've edited into the 23.98 sequence (I believe, but I'd get the proper method from Graeme) and render.by TimJBD - Café LA |
