(fcp5 in, so goingby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Widescreen a waste (+no preview to 23" under tiger) - 18 years agothanks, mike, that's great. that works for me, too. for me Spacebar also works to start play but i still need the mouse to stop. very strange cure.. when the display has gone to Presentation mode, the mouse is still looking at FCP. you can take wild stabs in the dark, and hit other points on the timeline. yes only main monitor is affected. and the upshot of that is that the image DOES fill thby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: tracking stuff with FCP - 18 years ago"I do use Wireframe to move things to a general location. However, then I almost always round out the numbers and target the timing in the Motion timeline." yeah, good for when you need to park on something for it to be whole numbers. for travel throughs, or tracking, it's no big deal. best stay pinned to the target, i reckon "I know, and guess where that guy did his "."by Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Minidisc Recorders - 18 years agohard to believe, i know. a quick search ("minidsk into mac" didnt show any hopefull results this had more links: i checked one.. not promissing. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Minidisc Recorders - 18 years agois that a file transfer, Chandos, or a real-time digital audio transfer? nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: tracking stuff with FCP - 18 years agosorry, i disagree. compositing should be done in the canvas, with wireftrames. it's the most intuitive way to do it. if you need accuracy, work with broad strokes first in the canvas, then trim in the viewer. it sounds like you might need to trash your prefs, Adam, you shou;d be able to get all the keyfraems you need. do use Control K to add keyframe? more on trashing prefs: blowing up a &qby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: EDL - 18 years agoEDLs are from the days of video tape, and as such only support 4 tracks of audio. (because you cant get more than 4 track of audio on a video tape.. and dont bring up ADAT!) if you had to make EDLs that refleceted 6 tracks, you;d make 2 EDLS. one for the A1-4, the other for A5+6. you;d MAP A5+6 to 1+2 in the EDL. this was a common way to get info about your track to the sound editors back in tby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Repeating Graphics - 18 years agoit's a master / afiliate issue, really. if you contrpl click on the nest in the browser, and "make new master clip" that becomes a new version you can cut into hte timeline and modify without affecting the original. but it's a bit of a drag, especialy if youlve got 180 of them! here's another way that's working for me. OPEN the file (Apple O, and navigate to it) it opens in a new viby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: filmstrip look - 18 years agoand then there's is the graeme Natress "VideoStrip" filter.. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Widescreen a waste (+no preview to 23" under tiger) - 18 years agoyou still get a large black frame on a lap top. i'm trying to display out to a cinema display, as well, but i cant get tit to work. i;ve just updated to tiger, and i've got a vsgue recollection reading something about this recently, but a seach isnt showinging anything doe anyone remember if this is an issue or not, and where i can read about it, what i can do about it? thanks, nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Minidisc Recorders - 18 years agofor portablity and ease of use, i'd sugest a small Hard Disk recorder. two that i;ve found: EDIROL R-1 MARANTZ PMD660 havent used either, though. cheers, nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: OT slow downwards slide with tiger - 18 years agothanx, joe. it was some weird hic-up cause by the contour shuttle pro, i think. the weird thing is nothing's changed except i pulled it out, and put it back in again?? who knows why, but it's smooth sailing for now i;ve turned the unsanity haxies back on, (coast clear for now) and i;m keeping the system relatively simple, for me. cheers, nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Dealing with badly lit scenes... - 18 years agoanother thing you can do, is to re-light the scenes.. i mean in post. you can create "power windows" in fcp, using the mask shape filter, or a gearbage matte filter. double the clip up on itself like jude says, add the masks to define the area you're concentrating on and grade to taste, lighter / darker to re-light the scene. i did this on a music video which got it's mood changed frby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: 10.4.1 out and FCP ship date . . . - 18 years agono download problems here... nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: OT slow downwards slide with tiger - 18 years agook, problem solved. i had a contour shuttle pro pluged in. i dont know why that should make a difference, as i hadnt loaded the drivers.. anyway, the problem was still there, so i unplugged it, and the problem went a way. then i plugged it back in and the problem stayed away! go figure... cheers, nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: OT slow downwards slide with tiger - 18 years agothanks mike, i'll give it a go later on, and get back to you. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: stretch & squeeze - 18 years agobut FCP isnt a graphics app :-) the thinking is to make FCP easier to use for editors, i believe. more often you would simply want to scale, so the simpler "no-modifier" grab is for that. maybe they should have made Option the modifier for this, as shift seems to have other conotations? check out the anchor point feature, brad, that'll determine where the frame grows from, i think. yby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: OT slow downwards slide with tiger - 18 years agowhat goes down, must come up! let's hope so... yeah it's the whole system. FCP was a fresh install. i;m not so far in that i cant just start over... oh, well. thanks, nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA OT slow downwards slide with tiger - 18 years agoinstalled tiger the other day. it feels faster, smooother, but now i've got a problem: dont ask me why, but any window which can scroll, does so of it's own accord when active. it doesnt help! it's like there's a "Scrol" comand being given every 5 seconds or so. windows scroll down, the app switcher (apple tab) jumps to hte next app along, if i touch the iTunes volume control, it tooby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: stretch & squeeze - 18 years agoturn the canvas to image & Wireframe mode, select the clip. grab the blue border at the corner with the Arrow tool. (you might need to reduce the image size in the canvas so there's some grey around it, otherwise you could grab the canvas itself, and just resize it) if you hold SHIFT when you tug on the corner, you can squeeze / stretch the image. easy! once you get the whole frame into viewby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Digitizing footage - 18 years agoyou know a Digital8 camera will play Hi8 tapes out via it's FW port, i believe. still the best thing i think would be to dub the tape across to DV. this gives you an "archive" version that you can use for capturing, and accurate batch capturing. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Timecode Breaks - 18 years agothe defualt user pref settings are what you want for this: no need to turn off "abort on dropped frames", if it's just TC breaks, so leave that on (default) and leave "on timecode break" set to "make new clip" so when there is a TC break, FCP will detect it, stop captureing, save that captured clip, and start captuing again 3 seconds after the break, giving you enby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: final cut hd copy/paste problems - 18 years agooh.. weird. did you trash your prefs? do those shots have speed changes? i wonder if locking the sequnce before you nest it would help? nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: television effects - 18 years agohey, koz, congrats on that ring gig! nmby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: television effects - 18 years agooh, another plug in that's worth playing with: graeme natess'es free "red" filter drop that in a clip, and turn it to b+w. you get a "scan line" effect. add the fcp tint filter to bring back some tv-blue colour. if you are moving the image around, you'll get freaky interfearance patterns. is that a good or bad thing? you decide! nmby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: audio mixer at NAB - 18 years agoanyone seen a list of suported devices yet? nmby Nick Meyers - Café LA |
