So your HDCam is in 23.98 and you HDV is 25fps? Well that this is pain in the butt. YOu will need to pick a frame rate to work with since FCP can only accommodate one fps in a sequence. I would suggest cutting in 23.98 since your HDCAM will be at 23.98. But then you'll have to convert your HDV to 23.98. One suggestion is to bump your HDV to HDCam. THese will be your new masters. I'd rent the 1200A deck and capture natively. Firewire drives can handle DVCProHD without a problem. Rent a deck once and that's all you'll need. Downconvert and you'll spend money on the downconverts and you'll have to rent the deck anyways for the online. Rent it once and be done with it. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA

Don't know if this is new, i think so...but selecting clips to Add Edit overwrites autoselects! Nice. If hell, if they let you bypass autoselects for so many different functions, why not just get rid of Autoselects?!?by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA

I'm a big fan of the Dell monitors. I've used them and I find them to be just as good as the Apple displays. Even if they are only 90% as good, the price is worth it! As others have said, though they are not as pretty, they are much more functional! -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA

You did not clone the timecode nor did you do a window burn? If not, then you will have to match it back by eye. Your HD masters will most likely be 23.98 and not 24 exact (I'm guessing here - confirm yourself via your DP or your online editor/facility). -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA

Autosave is now in the background. It doesn't pop up and stop your workflow anymore. I thought it wasn't autosaving since I never saw the autosave box, but when I went to the autosave vault I saw all my autosaved files. Pretty Cool. Depends on how much footage you have? You can do a batch capture of your timeline. Since you said it's a short film, I can't imagine it's that long. Batch capturing from your timeline will be alot cheaper than recovery your drive. I'd imagine it would take you a day or two at the longest. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA

Pick a master angle and edit your multiclip into the timeline first. Then select open from the timeline. also, make sure Multiclip playback is checked in the RT button/menu. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA

Has anyone tried to slip one angle of a multiclip - you should be able to slip it by shift control dragging that angle. Tool tip will pop up and show you how much you have slipped. Except this doesn't work all the time - tool tip will count how much you've slipped but the picture in the angle doesn't change. This feature works sometimes but more often it doesn't. I don't get dynamic RT - 19 years ago
So I tried out dynamic RT with composite modes. RT set to Dynamic on both quality and frame rate. I dropped frames right away as soon as the playhead hit the clips with composite modes. I unchecked the report warning on drop frames on playback box and it did indeed play through. Is that how it's supposed to work? I have to hide the drop frame warning for Dynamic to work??? Yes, Extend edit is a great tool in the right situation. Swap edit in ok, could be better. But if you need to swap the location of two clips side by side, it's not bad. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA

I think you may have a misunderstanding of what 3 point editing is. It's not just when you have 2 point in the timeline and 1 in the viewer. 3 point editing is when you have any 3 points. So when you said you use In and Out in the viewer - that's 3 points, cuz the timeline is your 3rd point. 2 in the timeline and 1 in the viewer is just another variation of 3 point editing.by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA

Not a bad request. Can't think of too many times when you need in and out and something selected at the same time. This will really bite you when you have to delete something. Maybe it automatically deselect when you add an In and Out, but it doesn't deselect when you just have an In or Out. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA

If you have DVCam, just stay in DVCam 13gig/hr. I edited a show in OfflineRT - needed to get new contacts afterwards. It's ugly and crunchy. Still in DVCam. No need to go Uncompressed either. Waste of bandwidth and money. My 2 cents. CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA

2 years is a long time away. Videos and films still need to be edited until the Intel Macs come out. You can still make money and do business until the intel macs are out. 2:3 pulldown from uncompressed SD? - 19 years ago
Does anyone know if the FCP 4.5 will add pulldown to non-DV format? ie. 8bit and 10bit SD? or will the current crop of capture cards handle that these days? Thanks!by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA
