Re: Mac Pro and internal RAID - 17 years agoWell, the apple site listed the towers with up to 2 TB of storage with 4 drives. So perhaps, it's a hardware issue with the Mac Pro? 4 x750 exceeds 2 TB. Could this be the issue? -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Mac Pro and internal RAID - 17 years agoThe 750s aren't used much is because they're relatively new - about 3 months or so. Barefeats.com tested the 750s in a 3 drive raid 0 and they got good results! Seagate = 222MB/s READ, 223MB/s WRITE CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: After Effects tutorials/Classes? Ken Stone? - 17 years agoDVDs are good if they are relatively inexpensive. But I've seen DVD sets that cost about 75% of a 3 day class. In this case, I'd rather take a class and have direct human contact/learning. I've done DVDs learning and the one big drawback is that if it's not working on your system you can't ask for help or learn why it didn't work on your system. Or ask related questions. -CHL Post Ediby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA cycle windows shortcut - 17 years agoSo I found out some a post that Shift-CMD-~ is to cycle thru all the windows. This is great since I didn't think this was possible with a shortcut. But when I try to remap this in keyboard layout, I can't find this command in the list to remap. Going to the Shift-CMD tab in the keyboard layout and looking at the ~ key, it's empty. So it seems like you can't remap this command....does anyone hby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: My Black Background is Green(?) - 17 years agoThis happens. Just yesterday, a machine I was working on had bars and tone show up as green. A simple FCP restart resolved the issue. But if it doesn't work for you, then trashing the prefs would be the next step. CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: 23.98 shows up as 24 fps - 17 years agoThere are two separate sequence settings - 23.98 and 24fps. So I wouldn't say it doesn't matter.by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: The Don'ts of picture editing are fewer so they should be shared early--help out - 17 years agoJust wanted to add a small detail: "and Chi-Ho Lee told me that you can't remove pulldown frames on the fly with FireWire. " I should add that you can't remove *Standard* pulldown frames (2:3:2:3) via firewire. BUT- You CAN remove *Advanced* pulldown (2:3:3:2) on the fly via firewire. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: off topic: copier/printer/scanner - 18 years agoThere is a Brothers model that is getting good reviews from users. Check out epinions.com CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Quicktime 7.1 - 18 years agoOOOOOOOoooooo.....creepy......can you believe they remade The Omen???by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Quicktime 7.1 - 18 years agoGuys, What's the word on this update? I've seen zero discussion on this release. Has anyone tried it yet? CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: My soon to be FCP Suite Good or not Good? - 18 years agoyour system drive should be bigger than 80gig! I think the stock is 250gig. Get another 250gig for storage on the cheap or the 500gb for around $400. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: OT: Rates - 18 years agoI would say $350 for a young 24 yr old editor is not bad since you don't have years and years of experience. I bet most of the guys here saying they make $1200 are quite a bit older and have maybe 10 years of experience. I find that it's harder to get over $500 while you don't look like you're in your 40s and older. Just my observations.... -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: FYI: (Warning - Essay): First impressions -- new Intel Mac Mini Dual Core w/FCP. - 18 years agoI thought people were reporting that FCP studio didn't install on the intel minis due to their graphic cards? Has this been resolved or was it just isolated incidents? CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Sony's XDCAM Cinealta - 18 years agoIf you want to jump into HD. Go with the Panasonic HVX200 and 2 P2 cards for around $10k. DV100 codec is way better than long gop mpeg2, IMHO. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Subtitles - 18 years agoDitto. You need a real person who is experienced in translation. CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: OT: Best web video I've seen in weeks - 18 years agoThey're two architectural students from China. Good luck suing them. Maybe the Backstreet Boys can sue them for their parent's old Mao Red Books! Or a copy of Final Cut Studio for a street value of $49.95 RMB. This video is about 6 months old and they have a few other videos out since then. This is the web and globalization at work! Power to the people!by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: OS 10.3.9 or TIGER? - 18 years agoOr Super Duper. This is another good cloning app. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: AG-HVX200 Questions for the Gurus - 18 years agoI'm in the boat that if you shot in HD, then make an HD master. Especially with the ease and cost of storage for DVCPro HD. If this was HDCam, then it would be different since an HDCam online will cost so much more. I would uprez the DV B-Roll to DVCPro HD. It sounds like you have access to a Kona card. Use the K3 card to give you a downconvert SD master. This way you'll have both a HD masby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: MPEG 1 Muxed file-how to get it into FCP? - 18 years agoMPEG streamclip is very versatile and amazing for a free app! -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: How to convert a clip into a Matte? - 18 years agoHa! LOL... I say Luma Key...you say Luma Kai.... yeah, Nick, you found it!by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: How to convert a clip into a Matte? - 18 years agoUse the Luma matte and play with the "key out" setting, brighter, darker, similar, dissimilar. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: 10.4.5 released - 18 years agoMany people on this board, I think even Mike Horton himself, recommend the combo download verses delta. If you have broadband, it'll only take 5-10 minutes to download. -CHL Post Edited (02-15-06 11:35)by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Larry Jordan's classes - 18 years ago"I loved it. It was much better than Cats..." JK -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA re: Which sound libraries are the best? - 18 years agoA froogle search on the net shows PC connection has the Sony set for $180! Not bad but it's only 5 discs. I use itunes to import all my sfx library so it's pretty effortless. And they're all online on a drive at aiff 48k. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA re: Which sound libraries are the best? - 18 years agoAnyone tried the Sony SFX package? it's around $500 i think. Supposed to contain all SFX from studio films like Terminator and etc.... looks interesting... -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Web movie - 18 years agoright audio , forgot about that. it's at IMA 32k mono. For 6 mins, maybe 40mb is as low as I can get it? any thoughts on using Compressed Header? Supposed to start the movie faster when people are downloading but I don't find any differenced between Compressed Header vs just plain Fast Start. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Web movie - 18 years agoHere's my situation. I have a 6 min clip that I compressed into 320x240, sorenson 3, at 30fps, medium quality, 300 keyframe and auto data rate. It comes in at around 40 megs. I tried mpeg4 and it doesn't look as good at around 33 megs. I've tried to set a fixed data rate and it looks pretty horrible compared to auto data rate. Can anyone recommend any other settings to get a smaller size? Tby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Anyone tried 10.4.4 and QT 7.0.4? - 18 years agoAnyone brave or stupid enough?by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Wish List - 18 years agoanother way to find out the duration of a clip in the timeline is to right click on it and the duration will be listed in the shortcut menu. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: The nerve>>> Just say NO! - 18 years agoIt seems this is becoming the norm no matter what country or city you live in. It seems that people are willing to pay plumbers, mechanics or electricians $50-$75/hr (and rightfully so) but for some reasons editors and assistants are always being low-balled. And I feel it's a post thing, it seems production people are shafted less. Particularly DPs and camera crews. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA |
