Re: I got a notice this morning that FCS2 is delayed until June 15+ - 16 years agoHa! I stand corrected. I was using pithy as in concise=short=small. But I guess that is not the correct corollary. updated: Sadly, Pro Apps is "minuscule" revenue compared to the $$$ the "I'm a Mac" commercials are bringing. : )by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: I got a notice this morning that FCS2 is delayed until June 15+ - 16 years agoSadly, Pro Apps is pithy revenue compared to the $$$ the "I'm a Mac" commercials are bringing. So don't hold your breath.by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Prores 422 and Firewire 800 - 16 years agoProRes sounds great but have we all forgetton DVCPro HD already? Robert, I would suggest you transcode the HDv to DVCPro HD. Then a plain old firewire 400 drive can handle this codec. And since it's a low budget film, i think this will be more than adequate. You will need to rent/borrow an HD system. Perhaps the IO HD (which should be able to transcode to DVCpro HD) will be availableby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: what Features did we get - 16 years agoYes, they could make all the timecode fields bigger. I still want an Undo history list- have we all forgotten about that request?? And making the font sizes bigger should affect the whole interface globally. The shortcut menu text are still tiny even though browser text size are med or large. CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: what Features did we get - 16 years agolots of people like the grey for color correction. I was hoping an update interface like DVDSP or Motion with much better tab management. CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Mixing 24p and 60i - 16 years agoYou can already achieve this look and feel. For example, with the DVX100 shoot 60i and 24P. Both are 29.97 but the fact of the the pulldown of the 24P will look dramatically different from the 60i footage. You could have been doing this for the past 2 years. As long as the 24p footage has been pulldown to 29.97, it'll work with any format. I don't understand why you got discouraging answby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Quicktime 7.1.6 is out! - 17 years agoQuickTime 7.1.6 addresses numerous bug fixes and includes support for Final Cut Studio 2, and timecode and closed captioning support in QuickTime Player. Apple recommends the update for all QuickTime 7 users. It is available for download from Apple?s Web site or from the Software Update system preference. Viewing Timecode is finally supported! CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: need advice on HDCAM 24p workflow - 17 years agoI edited a HDCam feature with your exact specs last year. You said the film doesn't have to be in HD but aren't you going to at least make a HDCam master? Seems like a waste not to... You can offline in SD as Derek mentioned but I'd offline at either DV or DV50 for SD or DVCPro HD. You have a Black Magic card but do you have a HD monitor to view while you edit? If not, then you may want toby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Matrox MXO and Dell 2405 - 17 years agoGreat. Good to know for the future! Thanks Shane. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Color not for 15" MacBook Pro? PfA? - 17 years agoFrom the tech specs, looks like Color is not supported on a 15" MBP even though they both have the same x1600 video card with the same 256 VRAM. So does that mean it won't even install? or just not supported (use at your own risk)? Can PfA confirm which? Thanks, CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Matrox MXO and Dell 2405 - 17 years agoShane, The real question is would you color correct a show with the MXO/Dell setup on a regular basis? CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: NAB - anyone get a sense if Apple improved MM reliability? - 17 years agoI did not get that impression. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: odd corruption - cache or prefs trash? - 17 years agoIt could be the media drive. Though unlikely, if the drive is causing media to be corrupted, then that could be one reason why it's happening to multiple projects. You take a risk by not finding the root of the project. It could never haunt you or it be haunt you 6 months later. No way to tell. CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: odd corruption - cache or prefs trash? - 17 years agoI have seen this once. I believe it is media corruption. If you really want to find out which file, you can quarantine small groups of bins/media into another project and open the new project and see which group makes that offline window pop up. Once you find out which group, you can widdle down inside that group. not fun or fast but should help you find the culprit(s). -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Bidding in HD world - 17 years agoI think 720P would be more than acceptable for sweeping landscape beauty shots. I also think it's good value for the dollar spent. There are now other panasonic models that are cheaper than the varicam if you don't need to over/under crank your shots. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: PAL and HD - 17 years agoor master out to NTSC tape and take it to a house for conversion. Might look better thru a hardware conversion rather than software for HDV based footage. _CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: omf and fcp (not to be confused with LBJ taking the IRT) - 17 years agoWatch out for that 2gig OMF size limit. If you're project is long and has a lot of tracks, you'll have to export them in batches of tracks. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: re: Mastering via FCP vs. mastering via After Effects - 17 years agoJust curious, does any of the Avid models online "cleaner?" -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Creating Counters - 17 years agoTry it in Livetype. There is a counter template.by Chi-Ho Lee - Motion Re: Do your Avid friends a favor... - 17 years agoDean, I do appreciate your post. I did not mean to imply that there is a secret Avid cult in the guild trying to keep FCP down. But as anyone can read from my original quote from Edgar Burckson, his gripe is a clear factual mistake. I'm not twisting his words into something else. His comments again: "FCP has one major flaw that many of us have begged Apple to deal with: when you creaby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Do your Avid friends a favor... - 17 years agoThis isn't about comparison or bashing. It's about correcting factual mistakes. And since this is an editor who is in the ACE and has some influence with his colleagues, the industry, and future editors, I would say his disinformation has more weight than others. That's why I care. If you don't care, then don't respond.by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Do your Avid friends a favor... - 17 years agoIt astonishes me the amount of rubbish that is written on FCP even now. Here is the actual technical blog of the ACE. This is an article by Edgar Burckson, ACE. He is no doubt a most accomplished editor with an extensive resume of films and television series. But even his comments regarding FCP is somewhat lacking in facts. From his article... Can you link to some of these places that talks about it? -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Intel vs. Non Intel - 17 years agoA lot of people have reported 5.1.3 strangeness. I would hold off on 5.1.3 - doesn't seem to fix a whole lot. As for the render file issues, just delete and re-render overnight. _CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: I shoot in 720, what should I edit in??? - 17 years agoIsn't 24PN just raw 23.98 files without pulldown? If so, then i don't see why the card can't play it out?by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Filmout question - 17 years agoYou HAVE to telecine to 29.97 if you're going to tape. Most houses will telecine straight QT files for you and in that case, you have the option of going 23.98 on the QT files. Your 16MM is 24fps if you set the camera motor to 24. But let's assume you shoot at 24fps on 16MM, since your output is TV, I'd just keep it 29.97 for the sake of ease. Unless you're sure you want a filmout, but whyby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Preview Options - "NONE" !!!????!!!! - 17 years agoit's missing a codec in the Quicktime library. It's called the DesktopVideoOut.Component. Copy it from another machine if possible, drop it in the System Drive/Library/Quicktime folder. Reboot the Mac and check in FCP. Those options should come back. It happened only once to one machine, but that's how I brought back those options. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: 24P shot on dvx100 looks awful on DVD - please help!!! - 17 years agoWhen you export to compressor, use the normal 29.97 settings. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA |
