Re: Can anyone suggest some sound effects/royalty free music libraries? - 17 years agoI use the Freeplay music that came with my Dot Mac account a lot. There was over 2 gigs of music there I don't know if it's still there but I believe they have a web site you can get it from. You could take that stuff into Sound Track Pro and mash it up a bit as well.by Dean - Café LA Re: Multiple Keyboard Failure - 17 years agoI think it's a sign you are supposed to take this short week off. You want me to change the liquid in my signature?by Dean - Café LA Re: composite mode keys - 17 years agoYes I know of his book I just thought it should be in the body it's in my book "Motion Graphics and Effects in Final Cut Pro" where the uninformed would see it better. I thought he should have said where you could buy it at as well it's available in the LAFCPUG store.by Dean - Café LA Re: Record audio using Macbook Pro w/out FCP - 17 years agoYou can now record Audio or Video Straight to disk which Kevin says not to do but if you want to via QT Pro, File>New Audio Recording or for Video File> New Movie Recording That's in QT Pro 7.1.3 The Firewire solo has S/PDIF I believe the Dat goes to the input and the recording would come into FCP via the FW Solo input via Firewire I have never used the Dat but I have been doing my VO'by Dean - Café LA Re: composite mode keys - 17 years agoDoes your book have a name? For the uninformed.by Dean - Café LA Re: Deleting transitions. - 17 years agoSomeone always has a newer or better mouse trap. And the cool thing about this Mac is there is so many ways to do things.by Dean - Café LA Re: OT "root" account - 17 years agoQuoteHow far have you looked? Lets see on the 20 machines that I fix for my clients. They all have Root underlying the main admin account. I haven't seen one like yours where I couldn't get to Root. I didn't say other then, my machine back in the day of OS X v 10.1 that I ran in Root only it's always been there running underneath.by Dean - Café LA Re: OT "root" account - 17 years agoI've just never seen a machine where the Root wasn't available in OSX. When I first got OSX the Beta I ran it in Root even in in 10.1 then I just started using a normal admin account. Since it wasn't necessary to run in Root.by Dean - Café LA Re: OT "root" account - 17 years agoA good way to tell is to go into Activity Monitor and look at All Process' There's a Pop up Menu at the tool bar window and you will see what is running and who it's owned by if there is no Root showing I guess there is no Root user which is weird.by Dean - Café LA Re: OT "root" account - 17 years agoQuoteI don't have the Security Menu, but I do have Users and root is listed (on this machine) as having no password and no UID. Sounds like root was never given a password so you can login as root and not give a password (Very Dangerous). I have to logout to check something for you so this post may be incomplete. Update So you have to be logged into an account with administrative privilegesby Dean - Café LA Re: Boot Drive: Mirror or nightly clone? - 17 years agoI would use Super Duper it is free to do a simple clone but for $27.00 you can upgrade to the version with many feature such as Smart Update which saves a lot of time. The program is easy to use because it tells you want it's going to do in simple terms. It has great support unlike CCC and is updated regularly. A blurb from the site. Have no fear. SuperDuper v2.1.3 is here! SuperDuperby Dean - Café LA Re: OT: SATA portability - 17 years agoI suppose if all the machines have SATA cards with external connections they should work. I have a La Cie (I Know I Know, I won it) that is external and I just plug it in to my SATA card. I had to wire my G5 with power to the SATA card to supply power to it otherwise you have to use an external power brick to power the drive. So until most machines get a better way to hook up external SATA, Firewby Dean - Café LA Re: forum problems - 17 years agoWell Joe I wonder if you have seen the Batman Movie (starring Adam West) on DVD and have seen the segment on Chuck Barris and the Bat Mobile? It's pretty damn cool.by Dean - Café LA Re: forum problems - 17 years agoOh Cool maybe you could change my websites from CSS to PHP? Would you Could You?by Dean - Café LA Re: Best way to export from FCP for good www video - 17 years agoI think there is a trial version of Episode on the flip 4 mac site. You might like it. I use H264 out of Compressor and I like it a lot. But requires QT 7 to play.by Dean - Café LA Re: 2nd (internal) drive shows up on the desktop but not in the finder - 17 years agoYou'll notice that if you have your computer to show in the side bar and you use column view and click on that computer you will then see it. If it's not in the side bar you can do it the Apple -T thing or in the Finder Prefs you can click on side bar tab and tell the finder what to show in the side bar. Remember those are just alias' and if you drag them out they will do the poof thing just likeby Dean - Café LA Re: Tascam FW1082 and FW1884 - 17 years agoIf the 1884 had MIDI control it can control Motion. And it looks like it does. The FW-1884 is a professional DAW control surface and audio/MIDI interface that uses the FireWire high-speed data transfer protocol. With FireWire's high-bandwidth capabilities, the FW-1884 provides audio and MIDI interfacing to computers.by Dean - Café LA Re: Tascam FW1082 and FW1884 - 17 years agoThey have so much great stuff on their website about using Final Cut Studio with the 1082 I can't imagine the 1884 wouldn't work pretty much the same.by Dean - Café LA Re: Crashed Drive? - 17 years agoI'd go buy a new IDE drive and install it in the G4 and install a new OS on it. Use it as the new start up drive and start backing up from the old drive. BTW you'll have to set one drive the new one as a Slave with the jumpers included.by Dean - Café LA Re: 5.1.2 or wait for 6? - 17 years agoI believe that Everyone should have a Cloned version of their Boot Drive. It's cheap shouldn't cost you more then $150.00 and then there would be absolutely no reason to worry for five days if you don't have your disks.by Dean - Café LA Re: Land of the Lost (FCP Disks) - 17 years agoCCC is good but it hasn't been updated in 2 years I would check out Super Duper it has great support and gets updates all the time and some really cool features You can do a straight clones for free but for things like smart updates (a big time saver) it's $27.00by Dean - Café LA Re: power mac won't turn on, display video - 17 years agoDo what Mike said and if you have added any new cards or ram make sure they are seated properly. I would also, if you can after zapping the Pram that's the start holding down the Apple>Option >P>R keys, This is the proper key command though not option, shift and P and R keys restart in safe boot mode.by Dean - Café LA Re: H'm - spoke too soon (Motherboard won't see FW) - link to posts - ideas? - 17 years agoCreate a new user account. System Prefs>Accounts and create a new account. Keep this account clean for testing problems. See if your firewire works in this account. If not Do a safe boot > Restart and hod down the shift key until you see the Apple logo on the grey background, this will take some time as it repairs the disks Etc. See if your firewire works, it may not as some parts of the syby Dean - Café LA Re: FCP & iMovie - 17 years agoPhil Don't wait to long for the upgrade! Orders must be postmarked by December 20, 2006. Good luck. I need to now blast offby Dean - Café LA Re: FCP & iMovie - 17 years ago"FCP 4.8.9 " You guys didn't get those updaters??? And Area 51.6 is there a guided tour there?by Dean - Café LA Re: Is FCP "Universal" needed for MacPro Intel? - 17 years agoYou did turn off warn on dropped frames after installing didn't you? Just a thought.by Dean - Café LA Re: Wiebetech fw as boot backup? - 17 years agoThere's a trick when using Carbon Copy Cloner and that's to zero all data on the drive before you run CCC other wise it fails as a boot drive many times. I have not had to do that with Super Duper. I also have Data Back up by Pro Soft Eng. and Super Duper seems to work best and is easiest.by Dean - Café LA Re: Wiebetech fw as boot backup? - 17 years agoI hope all goes well the last time I saw the grey background with the Apple logo then a O with a slash through it my HD was hosed. At least that is only a back up drive and not a boot drive in a iBook.by Dean - Café LA Re: Wiebetech fw as boot backup? - 17 years agoI'd reinstall the OS and run all the updates. You can skip this and clone your other drive. To make it easier use Super Duper it's free if all you want to do is make a first time clone. Depending on the drive size it should take about 3 hours.by Dean - Café LA |
