Re: emergency -- Internal RAID disappeared - 15 years agoIt looks like you got it back up. Consider yourself VERY fortunate on several fronts. Raid 0 has no error correction. It is the most risky form of RAID. Maybe others can chime in who have done lots of production work with RAID 0. I would be scared silly of a data dropout. I hear horror stories of people rebuilding RAIDs when they have a layer of error checking, like RAID 5 but with RAID 0 wheby Andrew Stone - Café LA Re: OT: Bare Feats wants suggestions on 8 Core FCP/Mac tests - 15 years agoWhere I come from PVP stands for "Poseur Value Points". Having an octo Mac would be EXTREMELY high on the PVP scale. It will be interesting to see how Apple walks the talk on multithreading since they have been blabbing to developers since WWDC 2006 how easy it is in Xcode to optimize your apps from mutli-core operations. Sounds to me like you should be getting a Kona 3 card as part of the gig for saving your client's sweet petard. If they can't pay for third party up rezzing then they have to pony up for a Kona 3. As for the deadline seems to me you have to be firm and confident in your dealings on the matter and make sure you state unequivocally the request to have stuff doneby Andrew Stone - Café LA Re: HDV Cameras - 15 years agoDepends on who the suits are? If it is for TV then sometimes a Z1U or a HVX-200 will do but for many you will need a 2/3" chip camera for fit the minimum requirements for submitting material. It really depends on your clientele. If you are jumping into it from DV you may wish to outline your production gear. If you are doing the editing, the equipment you have around Final Cut will dictaby Andrew Stone - Café LA Re: Matrox MXO and Dell 2405 - 15 years agoI was mentioning the additional functionality of the Dell, in general, to the Apple monitor -- not so much for a specific application towards connecting the MXO in a way other than DVI. One probably wouldn't go along for too long without finding the component input useful. The same could be said about the composite input or the S-video input. If you like matching socks go with the more expensive Apple monitor. If you want functionality along with good color go with the Dell. Not sure if it was added late to the mailinglist from Lafcpug News but its in that as well. In any event it is great news for shops with G5s that need to up and down convert between HD and SD. Her book on FCP is outstanding. I hope there is a similar book of a similar caliber on AE. Sorry if this has been posted up in another AE thread. I am relatively new to the fourm.
