Re: "out of disk space" - 16 years agodid you try a "save as" and name it something different? You might have a corrupt project. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Eureka "Slip-Slide Tool" - 16 years agoNo, this worked in FCP 5 for me. You select the clip with the arrow or with the select tool and then you have to make sure to change the tool to the slip tool (S). When you hit + or - the box at the top of the sequence should indicate Slip instead of Move. Strange that it doesn't work for you. andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Eureka "Slip-Slide Tool" - 16 years agoAlso, if a clip is selected and you then switch to the slip tool, you can type frames on the number pad to slip the clip. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: more fun with animation - 16 years agoIt doesn't make sense to me that the artwork would be done in a format that is smaller than the deliverable size. Seems like just poor planning. Regardless, I don't see any reason to work in anything other than your deliverable format. It's going to have to be uprezzed at some point. Why not just scale up the artwork from the start? If you have a hardware converter that can uprez with lessby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Motion L3 doesn't key? What Am I Doing Wrong? - 16 years agoIn Motion 3 it actually has a drop down box. If Motion 2 doesn't, then I suspect you want the slider to be at 0% as in 0% opacity. BTW, where is the L3 template? I was looking for the template you were talking about and I couldn't find it. What theme is it in? Andyby Andy Neil - Motion Re: Star Wars Scroll - 16 years agoI've never used Peter's template, but a quick Wikapedia and You Tube search gave me the details I needed to make one. Wikapedia told me the font type for the crawl: News Gothic, and You Tube has the original crawl (so I didn't have to pop in a dvd). Now you can imitate the crawl basically just by slanting some text along the X axis and pushing it off into the distance, but it's the littleby Andy Neil - Motion Re: OT--differance between dv, dvcpro25, and dvcam - 16 years agoA google search found me this. DV, DVCam, DVCPro Technical Details However, solid proof probably involves getting the tech info from the companies that developed the formats. Panasonic for DVCPro, and Sony for DVCam. This site has some links at the bottom to the actual DV Standards documents. Have fun reading... Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: OT--differance between dv, dvcpro25, and dvcam - 16 years agoI was under the impression that DVCPro 25 runs at a faster tape speed than DVCam. I seem to remember reading that somewhere. Is this not true? Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Probably a dumb compatibility question - 16 years agoProvided that the QT files aren't encoded in a codec that the Quicktime version on the older system doesn't know, you should be fine. I've done it several times, and not had a problem. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Conforming in HDV:can I save on hd the m2t file instead to send to camera ? - 16 years agoYou can compress the video with a constant bit rate in Compressor. You just need to duplicate a setting and adjust it in the inspector. Maybe I don't understand what you want your end result to be? It sounded as if you wanted a DVD to play on your PS3 and that you needed an .m2v file to do so. I don't work with HDV often, and I don't have any experience with m2t files, but if you're tryingby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Conforming in HDV:can I save on hd the m2t file instead to send to camera ? - 16 years agoYou can create an m2v file on your Mac and bypass all the rest. Just export the file as a self contained quicktime file and convert to DVD in Compressor. That will give you an m2v file and ac3 (for the audio). Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Definitive Motion Library Location(s) definition! - 16 years agoIf you're working in Motion 3, the "choose button next to search path" refers to a preference that existed in Motion 2, but they never bothered to update the manual for Motion 3. Choosing the 3rd party plug-ins folder is conspicuously missing from the Motion 3 preferences, possibly from Motion's notorious crashing behavior when using 3rd party effects. I found the folder for 3rd parby Andy Neil - Motion Re: OT: THIS IS THE FUTURE (think "Minority Report"... - 16 years agoImagine the future... It doesn't seem like they imagined much for the Surface. You put a camera on it and the photos appear on the table. Great if you're using a photo card that only carries 7 photos like in the example. By the time that gadget is in every house, digital cameras will hold thousands of photos, and the cameras themselves will be able to automatically download onto the houseby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Looking for electric sparks - 16 years agoIn Motion: Particle Emitters/Sparkles That's an entire folder of sparkle effects that can be easily customized to look like the sparks you're looking for. My personal faves for what you're doing would be Red Sparkler, Sparkle Implosion, or Tinkle. You'll have to mess with the speed and life to get a fast fly away spark as for a cattle prod. But there is plenty to work with. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Is it possible to Ripple to playhead from the keyboard? - 16 years agoD'oh!! I made it private at first so I could make sure that it worked before posting it. Just forgot to make it public afterwards. Fixed now. Thanks Jude. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Is it possible to Ripple to playhead from the keyboard? - 16 years agoI noticed that my keyboard trim tutorial was glitching on playback, so for the benefit of anyone who wanted to see it, I reposted it. Trim Tutorial Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: No Image in Canvas - 16 years agoYes, I guess I was under the impression that you'd already done that. Trashing preferences seems to be the best option at this point. Trashing Motion Preferences Try this for trashing your preferences. If that doesn't work, you may have to reinstall, but hopefully the prefs reset will be enough. Andyby Andy Neil - Motion Re: DVD Digitizing looks terrible - 16 years agoThe sizing being off might explain some of the artifacting. What sizing did you use in MPEG Streamclip. Is the DVD 16:9 or 4:3? Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: No Image in Canvas - 16 years agoStrange. It sounds like a textbook example of the view being set to Alpha but you say it isn't. What happens when you select the clip in the canvas and check it's media properties? Is it perhaps choosing an alpha for the clip when it shouldn't? Could you perhaps post some screen shots of the problem? Andyby Andy Neil - Motion Re: DVD Digitizing looks terrible - 16 years agoYou'd probably be fine using the DVCPro 50 codec with the quality slider over to 100. It uses 4:2:2 color sub-sampling which is comparable to the quality you find with a DVD and it's going to be much faster than Uncompressed. Make sure field dominance is set to lower. If you are getting a lot of interlacing issues, you can try flipping the field dominance, or deinterlacing. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: pixelation on dvd copies - 16 years agoThat's a strange outcome. I'm going to suggest that there is something different about your film's sequence from your trailer's sequence. Exporting using compressor and exporting a QT and then using compressor shouldn't create any difference unless you recompressed frames on the QT export. That leaves an issue with the film's sequence. If you check the settings and there's absolutely no difby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Is it possible to Ripple to playhead from the keyboard? - 16 years agoFor fast trimming on the fly, try this... Place the play head at the point that you want to trim from. Hit X to select the clip you want to trim. This will place In/Out around entire clip. Hit I or O to move the In or Out point depending on whether you are trimming from the front or end of a clip. Hit Shift+X to ripple delete. My problem was that I thought you were trying to use tby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Is it possible to Ripple to playhead from the keyboard? - 16 years agoQuotederek saidwhat he's describing can be useful for temporarily extending the clip so that you can see more of the outgoing clip, then selecting a new out point visually If that were the case, why not just use the ripple tool and drag extra handles on the clip and then cut away the excess? He sounded very specific about wanting to ripple to a point on the timeline. He even mentions that heby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Is it possible to Ripple to playhead from the keyboard? - 16 years agoI don't think you can do what you're asking as you have it written. The closest to what you're trying to achieve would be to use trim mode. You see, ripple edits typically mean that you don't have enough of a particular clip in the timeline, but you don't want to overwrite anything else. Because of this, ripple edits are usually performed to a point on the source that you want to add. Whaby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Expanding multiclips in the timeline - 16 years agoQuoteTim saidthere must be an easier way..?! No offense, but there DOESN'T need to be an easier way. You're talking about going from one NLE to another after a multi-cam edit has already been performed and wanting to have all the angles available for the Avid editor. Avid and FCP don't even speak the same language which is why you need a third party app just to 'port from one to the other. Tby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Expanding multiclips in the timeline - 16 years agoWill the Avid editor be re-editing the multiclip sequences? If not, then you can simply collapse multiclip and then you'll be able to export with Duck. I don't think you can explode the multiclip. andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: how to add fx to "filler" - 16 years agoHa ha. I knew that you'd be asking an Avid related question as soon as I saw your subject. FCP doesn't work like that. Filters affect their clips only, and you can add multiple filters to any one clip. Perhaps if you tell me specifically what you are trying to accomplish, I can help you with the correct procedure. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Which hard drive to place my compressor files - 16 years agoActually, I've heard in Apple discussions that Compressor will work moderately faster if the source file and the destination are on two different drives. Provided of course that they're not using the same bus (ie: 2 FW 400 drives). However, I would recommend a second internal drive, not using your system drive for the same reasons that Derek mentioned.by Andy Neil - Café LA Re: convert Hd 16:9 to quicktime 4:3 for web - 16 years agoThere's a filter in Compressor called Letterbox. First you make sure that the frame size in the Geometry tab is set to a 4:3 aspect (like 640x480). Then you go to the filters tab and apply the Letterbox filter. Use type: Scale, and Output: 16x9 1.78:1 That should give you what you want. andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: White frame at the end of compressed videos - 16 years agoDid you upgrade either OS or QT? I've never had your problem, but if I had, I would approach it in this order. Trash Compressor preferences. Upgrade QT. I'm running 7.3 without any issues with FCP 6.02 and OS X 10.4.11 Reinstall Compressor. I had an issue a while back where Compressor stopped working for me and none of the trashing preferences and other fixes worked. However, after rby Andy Neil - Café LA |
