Re: Way OT - 18 years ago<<m sooooo sick of all the TC bashing!!!! can we all get over that already - PLEASE?!??!!?!?>> I hear you. I think if I had Tom Cruise's life I'd be a lot more bonkers-happy than him. Still, I think the video is just plain funny in and of itself.by JustinB - Café LA Re: Way OT - funny! - 18 years ago<<And this forum moves so fast, it'll be gone in no time.>> That would be too bad, because that silly little movie cracked me up.by JustinB - Café LA Re: movies or tv shows edited in final cut - 18 years ago<<Why on earth would anyone with a decent budget use FCP. That is outragously stupid. Kinda like competing in Formula 1 with a gocart just cause its cheap.>> Apparently you didn't get to the LAFCPUG meeting with Walter Murch. Oh, and add "Napoleon Dynamite" to the list of features cut with FCP. It's not "Lord of the Rings," but at this point most people have aby JustinB - Café LA Re: movies or tv shows edited in final cut - 18 years ago<<There are a handful of cable shows edited with FCP, but they mainly reside on such networks as HGTV and the FOOD network. Bunim/Murray, which does all the Real World shows, now is solely FCP, with 45+ workstations.>> We've done a couple shows for The History Channel on FCP 4.5, and it looks like we'll be doing some more. Until recently the production companies we worked with were uby JustinB - Café LA Re: META DATA? - 18 years agoBasically, metadata is data about data. For example, an MP3 might have contained in it information about the artist, album etc. Or a website might have information unseen that tells others what the content and format of the site data is.by JustinB - Café LA Super quick digibeta system rental - 18 years agoI need a FCP system with a digibeta just to drop in some end credits (20 seconds.) It turns out they are not 100% accurate, doh! I think the DR Group would charge $100 an hour + $100 setup fee. Is there anywhere around town that could do it for less than that? This would be a really quick punch in. Thanks.by JustinB - Café LA Re: General error (34) - 18 years agoTry making a new sequence, and then copy all your media in from the old project.by JustinB - Café LA Re: tips - External Hard Drive - 18 years ago<<Yikes! I just bought a Lacie 500 GB. It was cheap though. Like $364 at zipzoomfly.com>> On the postive side, some people have had no problems at all with them. <<I've also never seen the G5 with a frozen screen, no keyboard or mouse and the vent fans screaming full speed. I let everything cool off for a half-hour and finished the transfer.>> The fan control dependsby JustinB - Café LA Re: What are the problems with the new Quicktime? - 18 years ago<<And another thing: why can't I remember anything anymore? I often find myself gaping at my computer screen like an Aboriginee staring at a Ferris wheel>> Hahaha. Best thing I've read all day.by JustinB - Café LA Re: WTF computer WTF ?!?!?! NO TIME ! - 18 years ago<<Turn on high quality scaling in FCP5>> I can't wait to try this. Haven't had an opportunity yet.by JustinB - Café LA Re: tips - External Hard Drive - 18 years ago<<I'd put a seagate into a wiebetech enclosure.>> Yup. I've also had good luck with the OWC enclosures. And they introduced some slick looking aluminum cases today. <<Also get a fw 800 bus card. run the drive off the card, and the deck off the internal powerbook bus.>> Ditto. <<But try to avoid Lacie's BigDrives. That's practically useless. <<I was told PAL/NTSC didnt make a difference with dvds, and that region code was the only thing.?>> It's video like any other SD video.by JustinB - Café LA Re: Sending Project to the States - 18 years agoIf you have Final Cut Studio, you could use Compressor 2. Or you could have your stateside person watch the show on a computer or a PAL capable DVD player. You could actually drop the sequence into an NTSC sequence and render. However, the video will look like crap and stutter on an NTSC TV. Otherwise, AFAIK, you're SOL.by JustinB - Café LA Re: Finding a job - 18 years agoWell, there is the jobs section of our board here. Other places to look would be:by JustinB - Café LA Re: Outputting a Quicktime Movie with Timeline Timecode - 18 years agoYeah, basically what Carmen said. You just need to apply a TC filter to a nested version of your sequence. If you want to adjust the filter properties on the nest, just highlight the nest and hit return (if you double-click it, it will open the nested clip as a sequence in the timeline, as opposed to opening it in the viewer.)by JustinB - Café LA Re: Apple, why Intel, not AMD? - 18 years ago<<I'm leaning toward thinking that buying a hot DP G5 a year from now might be a great move, because the price is bound to go way down due to decreased demand and anticipation of a new product line. It will still be as good a machine as it is today>> This tends to my thinking as well. The used market will be especially good when the Intel Macs start selling. And you get Altivec, andby JustinB - Café LA Re: Apple, why Intel, not AMD? - 18 years ago<< Apple, why Intel, not AMD?>> I'm pretty sure it boils down to five things: 1) Intel is able to offer a better supply of chips than AMD, which occasionally has problems. 2) Intel's roadmap could have been more impressive than AMD's. 3) Intel does more than AMD. Maybe they were able to offer "whole package" motherboard (aka logic board) design that AMD wasn't able to ofby JustinB - Café LA Re: Green Canvas - 18 years agoOne of my user accounts had this problem on install. I think FCP 5 has a bug where if you choose a non-default scratch disk upon first launch, it freaks a bit. I could be wrong but... The solution for me was to delete the preferences, and not change the default scratch disk in the initial boot screen. I then changed it inside from System Settings. All has since been fine. Try that and let us knby JustinB - Café LA Re: DV Feature Film project - 18 years ago<<1. Want to output, 16:9 "letterboxed" as well as 16:9 "anamorphic video" versions.>> As stated above, it's very easy to create an anamorphic DVD in DVD Studio Pro that will revert to letterbox on 4:3 screens. <<2. Want to produce an NTSC and PAL versions. Now MacOSX will be written for the Intel line. I think moving vermin over will be an easy port. :-(>> You don't have anything to worry about. These vermin are written for the security lapses and sloppy coding in Windows, not x86 (aka Intel/AMD.) Anyway, it's a good read.by JustinB - Café LA Re: Did we drink the koolaid? - 18 years agoI won't drink this Koolaid, but I'm accepting the fact that it makes things a lot easier for Apple in the long run. For many many years Apple has had to fight tooth and nail to make sure the best CPUs are being developed for them. They're sick of it, and especially now, they have better ways to spend their time. Now they can just go, "What's the fastest ya got Intel? Great! Ship 'em over.&quby JustinB - Café LA Re: It's Official - Intel Inside - 18 years ago"Has Apple said whether their next operating system release, OS 10.5 "Leopard," will run on PowerPC Macs -- or only on Intel processors?" I'm no expert, but I'm SURE it will run on both. Apple will have to make sure all it's software runs smooth on both Intel and PPC CPUs for years and years to come. Of course the story is different for third party developers. They can alwaysby JustinB - Café LA Re: Who's there? - 18 years agoOne common way chats of that size happen are through IRC. Of course this would require someone to set up a dedicated IRC server. Another issue would be that people would have to download an IRC client app.by JustinB - Café LA FCP 5: No more "swing" tutorial - 19 years agoYes I know you'll all be sad to hear it, but the reality is that the swing tutorial is dead. It's been replaced with a surfing trailer and some work for the "Extreme Living Channel."by JustinB - Café LA Re: R U as sick and tired of this as I am? - 19 years ago<<It is about as reliable as a crack addicted shizofrenic on steroids.>> Funny. But come now.by JustinB - Café LA Re: R U as sick and tired of this as I am? - 19 years agoFirst, make sure your capture settings are correct. Specifically, the device control. Next, try a different tape that's known to work. Last, dump your prefs and try again.by JustinB - Café LA Re: FCP 5 and Mackie Control surface - 19 years agoSo someone someone already has FCP 5. Lucky!by JustinB - Café LA Re: FCE 1.0 project --> FCP 4.5? - 19 years agoWell it turns out the project was from FCE 1.0.1. The problem was that some of the media had changed location, and this really confused FCP 4.5. When we reconnected the media in FCE, and brought it to FCP, everything was fine. Thanks for the help.by JustinB - Café LA |
