I try not to buy WD or Maxtor at all.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Dead FW Drive - 15 years agoFigured it out. Weird way to mount this drive. 1. Boot computer 2. Spin up drive 3. Connect to drive first 4. Connect to computer Usually, I attach the drives prior to booting up the Mac. Man, this drove me crazy. Look out for those Western Digital drives.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Dead FW Drive - 15 years agoCan you refresh my memory how DW could detect my dead drive?by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Dead FW Drive - 15 years agoUnfortunately, I don't have a current copy of DW. On my list of to-do's since I recently updated to Leopard. Can't remember if you can run DW if the drive won't mount. Might open the enclosure, but may invest in a new cable. It's a weird one. Unfortunately, one of the drives won't mount. Appears to be a WD drive. Client said drive was spotty, but not sure what she meant. I can hear the drive spinning, but Disk Utility can't see it. Any ideas other than removing the HD and placing it in another enclousure? Awaiting client's ideas.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Browser Right+Click Pull-Down Menus !! - 15 years agoSaw your post on the Cow. Join me in wishing him a belated Happy Birthday!by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: rendering text - 15 years agoCheck your renders with your Canvas set to precisely 100% size. Even better, check them on a broadcast video monitor. This fixes 99/100 problems with rendered graphics. It's usually a monitoring issue and not a quality issue.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Is iMAC ok to use with FCS-2 - 15 years agoWith ProRes and FW 800, you can edit almost anything.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Apple releases ProRes Quicktime decoder 1.0 - 15 years agoThis should soothe:by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Apple releases ProRes Quicktime decoder 1.0 - 15 years ago'Bout Time!by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Changing speed of clips within edited timeline - 15 years agoNick Meyers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > one more way: > > double click clip into viewer. > go to motion tab, > "Time Re-map" > > grab one of the green diamonds on the window > there, > and adjust the angle of the slope. > > less steep, and you are making the clip slower, > more steep, and you make iby Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: OT: FX for Newbs - 15 years agoWell, it's a basic fx tape. Reeeeaaaaal basic.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: 24 or 30 Advice - 15 years agoYou can also shoot interlaced and apply G Film to the results. I recently used it to add a film look to "Cheap Trick: Live at Budokan" which I just color corrected. It was shot on 1" videotape back in 1978, but the look makes it seem like it was shot on film. The client was very impressed.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA OT: FX for Newbs - 15 years agoHi Guys, I'm working on a training video that covers all the basics for those that can edit in Final Cut Pro, but are struggling with some of the effects you can do quite easily right inside of the application (no fair jumping to Motion quite yet). As I'm finalizing my outline, I was wondering if any of you could list your top 10 (or more) effects that you think all students need to learn. Orby Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Crawling text -jaggerd - 15 years agoCheck it out on your video monitor. The Canvas is not the best place for evaluating rendered graphics.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Changing speed of clips within edited timeline - 15 years agoIt's unnecessary to go back to your in point if you edit it back into the sequence with Replace Edit. So, I use Strypes method but use Replace Edit instead. Definitely not California-ese.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Flattening .caf files to .aif out of ST Pro - 15 years agoIt's good Ben, but I'm previewing everything in ST Pro. I have no idea what the files sound like. I like being able to do what I want to do within the app. Even though, QT Pro output would be easy.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Print to video vs edit to tape - which to use? - 15 years agoFollow Derek's post and don't forget to use Assemble mode for the lay off. BTW, timecode is not "striped" by the NLE, be it Avid or FCP. It comes from the tape deck.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: blu ray newbie seeking advice w/ FCP output - 15 years agoYou need to make a H.264 file, not a None Codec file.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Flattening .caf files to .aif out of ST Pro - 15 years agoYeah, I thought I tried that before, but I guess I didn't . That works. Right click on the track and choose Channel Select>Stereo>1, 2 Then, File > Export . Preset>Custom Exported Items>Master Mix File Type>AIFF Bit Depth>16 bit Sample Rate>48 kHzby Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Preferred Settings for Capturing HD Video - 15 years agoYour question is might broad. In general, I'd say use the Final Cut Pro Easy Setup for her camera. Then edit in Final Cut Pro. To export for web video, you'll export to Compressor. Then, just use a preset for the format you'd like.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Flattening .caf files to .aif out of ST Pro - 15 years agoJeff Harrell Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Set your master mix to two > channels for a stereo mixdown How is that done? Any idea how to do this without doing a round trip through FCP's export functions? It's not apparent how to do this anywhere I have searched.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA |
