Re: Capture ProRes 442 @ 720x480? - 15 years agoIt appears the issue is within FCP and the ProRes codec. I can capture any tape format through the Kona and using the DVCPro50 codec at 720x480. For that matter I believe I've captured uncompressed as 480 also.by Philip Ohler - Café LA Capture ProRes 442 @ 720x480? - 15 years agoAnyone know if it's possible to capture ProRes 422 in a 720x480 frame size? Even if I set the capture settings to that size the resulting captured video is still 720x486. Using a Kona 3 to bring in tape based material. Long story why this is important but briefly we also pull a lot of video off DVD which is 720x480 and we want to stay in that frame size. We have tons of archived video in theby Philip Ohler - Café LA Re: Got Leopard? Post your problems/joys/thoughts here - 16 years agoHas anyone else experienced the following... FCP 5.1.2 Sharing a project from Tiger to Leopard no problem. Sharing a project from Leopard to Tiger no go. Leopard just doesn't even know what to do with it. Thank god for XML! Anyone else seen this and is this a know issue?by Philip Ohler - Café LA Re: FCP 6 problems with re-capture - 16 years agoStupid question but it has to be asked...do your sources for the clips your're having trouble with had reel #s? If not they don't you can't trim unused media. poby Philip Ohler - Café LA Font missing warning - 16 years agoPlease oh please Apple! When sharing projects in a multiple workstation environment and using a font managment tool such as Font Reserve, there's no way of knowing what font was used in a project if it isn't already active. FCP will randomly substitue a font for the missing font. There are many programs that give you a warning as you open the file/project that a font is missing. Why can't Fby Philip Ohler - Café LA Missing font - 17 years agoThis may be more of a feature request than a bug but I think it's still a bug. If you open an existing project and don't have the font activated or installed that was used in the project, FCP doesn't warn you of such and you have now way of knowing what the original font was. This is a problem in a larger workflow environment where projects are shared ans swaped.by Philip Ohler - The Bug Report Re: ??? Snapz Pro to Quicktime Movie to final cut - Still get red line in time line... - 17 years agoI guess my point is this... Often times when using SnapZ, 4:3 frame size isn't practicle or desired. Also, whenever I've used QT Pro or Compressor to convert a SnapZ 10fps clip I can't get a locked consistent 29.97fps file. MPEG Streamclip has been the only way to achieve this fps and maintain my "unscaled" frame size.by Philip Ohler - Café LA Re: ??? Snapz Pro to Quicktime Movie to final cut - Still get red line in time line... - 17 years agoShane, This is great info if you're only editing with SnapZ clips but if you want to use these clips in your 29.97 timeline then it doesn't work. I've found the only reliable way to use these clips is to convert using MPEG Streamclip. Quicktime Pro and Compressor both will not convert to a locked in 29.97 frame rate. Once these clips are converted I can use them to edit with standard clipby Philip Ohler - Café LA Media Manager and error 47 - 17 years agoLast week I started a thread to discuss the improvements of the Media Mangager in FCP 5.1.2. Bottom line...it's much better than it was and seems to handle speed changes with no problem now. Two issues that I have found still remain: 1. Any source without reel #s won't be managed properly 2. Any source that has a frame rate other than your sequence frame rate won't be managed properby Philip Ohler - Café LA Re: Media Manager almost ready for primetime - 17 years agoI'm back with some new information on consolidating a project via MM. This just in.... Another stumbling block to proper trimming of source material seems to be frame rate. Often times when we Snapz material off the computer screen or download videos from Youtube the frame rates vary from 10fps to 24fps. FCP and MM won't trim this material unless it's in the native frame rate of your timeby Philip Ohler - Café LA Re: Media Manager almost ready for primetime - 17 years agoNick, You are correct. Reel numbers made the difference. I'm not sure why changing timecode worked also but adding reel numbers are much easier in the browser than timecode. Yes speed changes so far have been handled perfectly. Thanks for the tip. Philipby Philip Ohler - Café LA Media Manager almost ready for primetime - 17 years agoIt appears that with 5.1.2 our old friend Media Manager is almost ready for primetime. Gone are the issues with speed changes which had remained one of the biggest stumbling blocks. The inability to take a project from "offline" to "online" was/is one the the reasons for FCP not being accepted more widely with TV shows and films. It was even a problem in my line of shorterby Philip Ohler - Café LA Motion files into FCP - 17 years agoWhen I import motion files into FCP and load them in the viewer I can never see them but they're there because I can edit them into the timeline. FCP 5.1.1. Anyone else seen this behavior?by Philip Ohler - Motion Re: DV to 720x486 workflow - 17 years agothanks derekmok. i've actually done this and the converted timeline doesn't look great when playing out to an NTSC via Kona 3. was wondering if there were some other workflows that might result in a better upconverted image.by Philip Ohler - Café LA DV to 720x486 workflow - 17 years agoA bit of workflow situation here. I cut a show in DV at home on FCP 5.1.2 original sources was Beta SP. I need to get this show into a 720x486 timeline so I can add a closed caption file to it which only seems to work in the 720x486 setting. I will then output to digibeta via Kona 3 at my day job. Due to time and budget, I can't recapture the show via uncompressed and work is only running FCP 5.1by Philip Ohler - Café LA Advanced (hidden?) match frame command - 17 years agoI've been a FCP user since version 2 and recently this question has come up that I haven't found an answer for. If you have a nest or a sequence within a sequence and you want to match frame to the master clip of a specific shot, is there a hidden keyboard combo or menu command that can get you all the way there? Currently, if you match frame a nest or sequence within a sequence you match to theby Philip Ohler - Café LA |
