But the new promise raids have sata drives and the price is right. Any comments on the V-trak promise raid ?by JimEllis - Café LA xserve raid upgrade to sata drives - 14 years agoI have a xserve raid with ultra ata seagate baracuda ES drives. Only 7 of my bays are populated. It has worked great for 2 years now. When I went to buy 7 more drives for the other half of the unit I found out the price has jumped through the roof on these ata drives because Seagate no longer makes them. Anyone have the same problem? Apparently they are oem parts made for apple so not sure iby JimEllis - Café LA P2 cards and power failures - 14 years agoI shot about 45 min of footage on p2 cards when the power went out. Looks like I ended up with a corrupted file ( I guess its corrupted, its white and has an ! and ? mark in the corner) and four incomplete files all 9:53:28 in length. I shot only one clip before power failure. Why did I get more than one clip. Did the power failure have anything to do with the one clip getting broken intoby JimEllis - Café LA Jagged fonts in menu - 14 years agoAnyone have any solutions for the normally jagged looking fonts that are visible on the menus of DVD studio Pro. Anyway to work with it? Jimby JimEllis - Café LA Sorenson squeeze to make .mov file - 14 years agoHi guys, Had a client give me a .mov file made from sorenson squeeze on a windows computer. When I played the file on a quicktime window all I got was audio, no picture. When I brought it into fcp and dragged it onto the time line it said "Codec could not be opened". Any ideas on how to open this? Jim Inspired Images Coby JimEllis - Café LA Re: artifacts generated from compressor - 15 years agoHi Gerard, No problem, I have a dual core 3ghz mac pro with 3gb memory. Do you think exporting as a scqt and bringing that into compressor will still be quicker? I'll have to give it a go and time it. Well sounds like it solves a few different problems going that route anyway. What about nesting the timeline, does that shorten the encode process? I noticed that in the last half of the program some pulsating artifacts around certain images in the picture. I don't see any artifacts in the video from the timeline on the canvas in FCP. Anybody ever experience this? Of course when you go ahead and use the file in DVDSP it shows up on the dvd. Everything showed up fine in my log and transfer window. But your saying he may have problems on his end with his pc editing software? I will make sure I keep the data until I hear he has it on his computer. Jimby JimEllis - Café LA Re: Best way to deliver 45gb of p2 raw data to client - 15 years agoDerek, what did you mean by check the drives formatting? He had stuff on it when he brought it over so I just added the footage. Thanks for the advice Joey, lots to keep abreast of when it comes to this new solid state workflow. I must say I still don't miss tape. Jimby JimEllis - Café LA Re: Best way to deliver 45gb of p2 raw data to client - 15 years agoClient brought in his western digital 3200, nice drive. I copied and pasted into his drive from my desktop. Worked great. I checked the transfer by doing a log and transfer off of his drive and everything showed up fine. thanks guys, Jimby JimEllis - Café LA Re: Best way to deliver 45gb of p2 raw data to client - 15 years agoOk, That is not a bad idea. Maybe even putting it up on an ftp service somewhere, probably take a heck of a long time to download. Thanks guys Jimby JimEllis - Café LA Best way to deliver 45gb of p2 raw data to client - 15 years agoI have recorded 43gb of material on two p2 cards and the client would like to have a disk with just those raw files. I have noticed that if I make a dvd with more than 4.1 gb of info on it that when playing back in a DVD player the last portion of the DVD starts to skip and pixilate. It plays fine on simulate in DVDSP. Make the program file smaller (say 3.5gb) and produce a DVD with that and its fine. Can this be done with compressor or DVDSP? Jimby JimEllis - Café LA Timeline settings a great mystery - 15 years agoI imported some footage from a dvd into my timeline via Cinematize 2 Pro. I used the 8 bit 4:2:2 uncompressed setting. The files showed up as 720x404 in size with a 16:9 aspect ratio with a rate of 29.97fps. Upon moving them to the timeline I received a screen asking if I would like to change my sequence to match the footage. I of coursed agreed. My "monitor" at work is a regular Consumer widescreen Tv as is my home tv. I just checked and the monitor at work is set to "full" which is the same setting at home. Looks great. Used compressor to make files for the dvd (mpeg2 files @ 6.2mbps with an ac3 audio file). Imported into DVDSP and made the dvd. The flash converter i am using is called (any video converter) which is pretty lame. If I can convert the time line right to a .flv that would be great, just don't know the steps. Sounds like on2 is the way to do it for the best quality. Is that what you would recomend oby JimEllis - Café LA Flash conversion in Compressor? - 16 years agoCould not find a flash conversion in compressor. Maybe I am looking in the wrong spot. It would be great to go right from the time line to a flash file instead of mpeg 2 then to flash. Jimby JimEllis - Café LA flash .flv option in compressor? - 16 years ago2 questions 1. I understand that Flash flv is a good choice to place video on the internet. Is there an .flv option in compressor hidden somewhere? If not I guess I could purchase sorrensons squeeze and bring in an uncompressed file for squeeze to make the .flv 2. I found uncompressed 10bit 4:2:2 under quicktime conversion. Is that the only place to output an uncompressed file? Thby JimEllis - Café LA |
