Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Crossfades and SoundSoap - 15 years agoI would dump the crossfade, send the original clips to SoundSoap again, then apply the crossfade as the last thing. Sounds like the render for the crossfade is "remembering" the original audio. I remember iMovie was terrible this way, but I thought FCP handled it a lot better. If this was your original workflow, I guess I'd still recommend doing it all over. It might work just toby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: FCP on Intel? - 15 years agoOK, "known" has just been expanded (for me). I think you'll have to answer the question yourself. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: FCP on Intel? - 15 years agoMy understanding is that St. Steve has commanded that no platform other than Apple shall run OS X, in spite of the fact it would be "possible", and of course Windows is "allowed" to run on any Intel machine, Mac or PC. The only non-Mac Intel hardware out there would be running Linux or Windows, and FCP will only run under OS X. So I don't know how you could get there by follby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Missing plug ins - 15 years agoCan you try the install disk for your other system? It obviously worked better over there. I don't think there would be any serial number issues. Unless FCS2 is using a different method for Boris install. I have FCS1; I think Boris installed from an Extras folder since FCP 4. Don't have any disks handy to check now. Wish I could be more help. You should have more standard problems .by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Missing plug ins - 15 years agoI can tell by some of your other posts that today is not your favorite day . The Boris package is not there on your install CD, or just won't work? Never heard of it being completely missing. There were definitely some issues with Boris and a certain release of QT, but I don't remember the details. When I click on that link I get a screen full of garbage and complete browser lockup. Maybby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Missing plug ins - 15 years agoQuoteIs there somewhere I could download just these missing effects that ship with FC? Have you looked on your FCS install CD? They are in the Extras folder, ready to be installed/reinstalled. They don't automatically install during an FCS install, you have to do it manually. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Missing plug ins - 15 years agoI would stay away from the "package" method of updating plugins. That place is reserved for "built-in" plugins, and isn't for 3rd party ones. Did you run repair permissions, or at least check Ownership & Permissions from "get info" on any of the plugin files you aren't seeing in FCP? The business of showing files as exe is starting to sound like a type/creatby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Missing plug ins - 15 years agoWhat about the other ways you can see your plugins? Effects menu (not tab), or the generator pulldown at the lower right of the Viewer window. Anything show up there that you aren't seeing on the Effects tab in the Browser? Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Missing plug ins - 15 years agoTMTS Plugins are uncompiled FxScript files, rather than compiled plugins. They have the extension .txt and can be opened and edited as plain text. I don't know why that would make a difference in what you can see in Effects, but that is a key difference between TMTS and most all other Plugins. Having the same problem with an entirely different machine is very weird. Something about the visiby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: how do you lose the themes for Idvd? - 15 years agoFind one that's real basic to do that with. I did that once with a template that had a bunch of pre-configured music for the menu, thought I had gotten rid of everything to make my own pages, but after burning that blasted music was still there. I don't know why iDVD can't just offer a blank template for these purposes. However, it's just about as easy to do a Q&D DVD, without any cannedby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Lacie D2 2 TB Drive problems / USB or FW / corrupt files - 15 years agoQuoteI also tried creating a new project file with FW 400 and 800 connected. I'm pretty sure you don't mean that you had both the 400 and 800 ports connected at the same time. But if you did, I wouldn't expect it to work at all, and may fry something. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Sound question - 15 years agoQuoteI also want to put lafcpug.org and you guys names on the film credit line as a thank you note. What do you feel about that? Sure, as long as we're above the titleby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: 3.98 gb MXF's giving me problems! - 15 years agoQuoteJude asked:Isn't it 2GB? It does sound like a 4GB split is happening though I think a drive formatted NTSF (Windows NT secure format) tops out at 4GB, MS-DOS or Mac not Extended limit is 2GB. I think. Anyway, it doesn't sound like that was the issue here. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: 3.98 gb MXF's giving me problems! - 15 years agoAnd check how the disk you're writing to is formatted. If it's not Mac OS Extended it won't write files larger than 4 GB, which sounds suspiciously like what you're getting. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: OT - wireless network adapter for Mac Pro tower - 15 years agoJust for the record, I want to answer your original question, because I had to do exactly that a few weeks ago. Answer: Airport card (like Shane says). Complication: you can't buy one and install it yourself, you have to have it done by Apple. I went to the Genius Bar at an Apple store, they did it in 15 minutes, and it cost about $45, including install. Closest Apple store to me isn't all tby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: expected final cut pro release date - 15 years agoWe all "expect" it. But Apple keeps a tighter lid on their plans and dates than the CIA, so you'll know the same time everyone else does. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Using files from earlier version of fcp - 15 years agoI have made the same transfer from 3 to 5 that you did, and there's nothing special about it that would cause trouble. What I think happened in your case is that the files that went missing were somewhere else on the original system, and didn't get transferred. It can happen by having the Capture Scratch location different during an edit session; render files get written to another place whereby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: 24p and Audio Problems - 15 years agoI don't have anything to contribute except to point out from the original post: >>I'm trying to import a FCP Movie File originally shot on a SD DV camera from a DVD which would probably account for the "bizarre" properties of his media. So the question is: what method did you use to extract from the DVD into FCP? Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: How to layer shots to double actors (arithmetic?) - 15 years agoI remember a discussion about this a couple of years ago, might have been on Ken Stone's site. Yes, something about a "Difference" composite mode. I don't have any way to experiment with it right now, but I think that's what was talked about. Couldn't tell you how well it works, but it's theoretically possible. Which reminds me: "In theory, there is no difference between theby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: OT - Wi Fi Card for Mac Book? - 15 years agoAlso check with EVDOinfo.com - their job is to accommodate everybody. If not, do so. Next, try trashing your FCP preferences. Note that Loren advised Option-R, not Command-R as you said you were using. It will render everything, regardless of whether it is selected, and sometimes that works better. Have you installed or upgraded anything else on that machine since these things were working? </shotgun> Scoby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: OT - Wi Fi Card for Mac Book? - 15 years agoCheck these guys out: EVDO Info. They sell a large variety of cards for the purpose with about any interface you need. I have used them to rent cards for one week use at trade shows and they are very reliable. They cover Sprint and Verizon, and have maps to tell you what the coverage of each is. In fact, it may confuse you as to some of the basics. I can vouch for this, as I have been down both roads. You might learn a sense of pacing with iMovie, just because it's editing, but that's about all that would translate. The workflow in FCP is far more intuitive, and muchby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Can I force 1 audio track on multiclip - 15 years agoIt's blessedly easy. View > Multiclip Active Tracks, select Video Only. This controls which track(s) get switched when you switch in the Viewer, and the choices are audio only, video only, or combinations. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Rejoining audio to clips - 16 years agoGreat minds, same wavelength, etc.by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Rejoining audio to clips - 16 years agoYou could do it that way, but part of Vance's instruction was "turn off video" before hitting F10, so that the existing video portion wouldn't be overwritten. You can do that by un-patching video, or locking that track, to prevent video overwrite. Unfortunately, FCP doesn't have a better way of sending audio-only to the timeline if there is already video with it in the viewer. Scotby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Exporting Quicktime, getting FCP Movie file - 16 years ago>>Why'd i want fcp to open a QT file? Well, it's useful if you want to send the output out Firewire to your NTSC monitor, which I sometimes do. Can QT send output to FW? Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA |
