Click HERE to register now Re: Exporting Quicktime, getting FCP Movie file - 16 years agoI drag an "FCP" file onto my Quicktime icon, and QT opens it fine without involving FCP, and no need to reset "Open with". Not sure what the problem is. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: File Error message while rendering - 16 years agoI'd like to know too. It happens seemingly at random. My renders are generally short, so it doesn't foul up an all-nighter, but what's weird is that immediately after I see this error I start the render over again and it proceeds without further problems. What changed? Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: semantics - video/film, etc... - 16 years agoSome here would give him patient, considered answers, others would jump all over him, but it didn't matter - he never got it, and remained clueless. Still is, I gather. Polite as could be, but did not compute. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Thanks to all! - 16 years agoJeff, Thanks for confirming that an original "Capture Now" can be recaptured with full timecode reference intact; there has been a lot of debate here about whether using Capture Now for the original capture destroys your ability to do this. It would only work with device control enabled, of course. >>I have to shoot the host on Monday.... Yep, sometimes you just gotta puby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: semantics - video/film, etc... - 16 years ago>>anybody wonder what happened to him? Yeah, I wonder now and then. I can take the blame/credit for a New Topic that apparently chased him off. I thought it was pretty mild; he had endured a lot more flame before that. He said once that he had gone to SF State in late 60s; I did too and was going to PM him about it, but after a couple more of his posts I knew I didn't want to go thereby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: semantics - video/film, etc... - 16 years agoOn the "record" side of things, I have a friend who insists that "album" means a vinyl LP, when it really just means a collection of things (photo album anyone?). What amazes me even more is the number of people who refer to CDs as "tapes". "Film" to me refers to the thin strip with a thin layer of light-sensitive emulsion, as well as the finished, projby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Clip copy?? - 16 years agoYou could just reformat your existing drive and be golden. You'll find a lot of sentiment on this forum that buying LaCies is a big step backwards, due to their unreliability. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Clip copy?? - 16 years agoExternal drive getting full? External drive formatted Mac OSX Extended? How big are these clips; what size does 62% come out to? In my extensive Mac Error Code resource, it quits in the -1300 range at -1305, but that range is HFS (file system) errors. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: . - 16 years agoI hear that Bruce shows up if you let a "dot" thread go on long enough.by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Mac Clone - 16 years agoShane, why didn't you post your comment somewhere and just give a link to it? On the other hand, why didn't I? Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: . - 16 years agoOver on the COW FCP forum I saw another "dot" post by Harry, but in that one he said "Oops, sorry, double post." Now I'm really confused.... Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: . - 16 years agoWhen is Harry going to comma comment on this? He started it! Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Need help with corrupted QT files. - 16 years agoI wonder if it's a Type/Creator problem. I just looked at a couple of .MOV files and they showed as Type: TVOD and Creator: MooV. I use a little free utility called FileType to see and change these. You can get it here. I didn't think this would be such an issue in OSX, but maybe so. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Can't find Title 3D or Boris Caligraphy? - 16 years agoSteve, I hope you've solved this by now. As I recall, Boris installs itself from the installer on the FCS disk, you just have to run it from the Extras folder and it take scare of itself. If not, write back. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: File error. Access denied. - 16 years agoDisk Permissions only applies to drives with an OS on them, probably not the case with external drives. Worth doing on the system disk, though. Could try Disk Repair, and some Disk Warrior, on those externals. I'm leaning toward another reason, like what Loren suggested. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Squashed Text - 16 years agoThere is one type of modification to Boris titles that you must do in the Control tab instead of the Motion tab for best quality, and that is scaling. You lose the benefit of the vector nature of Boris titles if you use Motion scaling; titles can get real fuzzy if you scale them up much. Using the scaling in Controls keeps them crisp no matter how big you make them. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: . - 16 years agoQuoteSince this is a video forum, that must be a pixel. And a mighty fine pixel it is. But it's upside down.by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Color correction tips with FCP - 16 years agoI see the same NTSC monitor latency when I use the FCP 3-way CC, using the standard FW > camera/deck > monitor setup. The canvas shows the effects of a change immediately, the monitor after a bit, or not at all until I force an update. I've found that just nudging the playhead in the timeline will usually do it. And sometimes it's immediate. I don't get it, does anyone? Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: audio levels jump on cuts - 16 years agoI wonder if doing an audio mixdown would have solved this without changing the track preferences. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: FCP6 Render All notice - 16 years agoAlthough the article specifies FCP 6, is there any reason to think it doesn't apply to FCP 5 as well? I'm with Jude, no reason to leave anything to doubt. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Can't find Title 3D or Boris Caligraphy? - 16 years agoBut maybe you haven't installed it. It no longer installs automatically with FCP. Look on your install disk for an Extras folder, you'll find the Boris installer in there. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Audio out of sync - 16 years agoNow that Reid and Vance have chimed in, I'm surprised that I'm surprised! It is perfect so often that even small anomalies stand out. I'm guessing we'll see more of them.... Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Audio out of sync - 16 years agoYes, I am watching through a Tivo/DirecTV. Not a new one, though, not HD. I'm seeing this on network stuff, like NBC Nightly News sometimes, where you wouldn't think synch would even get an opportunity to drift at the production level. So it may well be the digital processing at my end that fouls it up. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Audio out of sync - 16 years agoI've seen that too, on otherwise "very professional" productions. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Ideas for Display of DV Date / Time Metadata in Final Cut? - 16 years agoWhile Wes's answer makes sense, it still boggles the mind that this hasn't been provided until now, and still not now. I asked Graeme Nattress, a guru of FCP plugins, about this once, and he said that access to this information is not at all what access to video codec information is, and that Apple has not provided any way for plugin writers to work with it. It's too bad, because that is very vby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Colorista vs FCP 3-Way - 16 years agoLooks real interesting, and they offer a trial version on this page, but when I click "download trial version" it goes nowhere useful. Anyone know what's going on with this? Or what the trial version consists of (time limited, watermark, ??). Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Favorite / Best free plugins for FCP - 16 years agoA good clearing house for links to free and not-free FCP stuff is Simon Kirby's Lunchtime Cinema. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: OT: Telly Awards - 16 years agoLoren, I think you're thinking of Allen Sherman's version of the 12 Days of Christmas "... a statue of a Buddha with a clock in his stomach, and a Japanese transistor ra-di-o!"" or not Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Quick & easy slide show - 16 years agoExporting a slide show from iPhoto is easy. Share > Export, pick a "movie size". You'll want Large (720x480). Makes a QT that imports directly into FCP, although it needs rendering for reasons I've never quite determined. Definitely quick and easy, but I only do it when I'm in a real hurry and there's no requirement that it have actual artistry. I find the "Ken Burns&quby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: File I / O error when exporting a quicktime movie - 16 years agoAnd just deleting the file isn't enough - make sure you empty the trash to make it really go away and recover the space.
