Use Compressor instead and you can set up as many presets as you like.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: automating clip name as a subtitle - as TCR reads the time code - 16 years agoIt's not technically possible to do that as a plug-in because FCP doesn't make the clip name available. However it is possible through XML. Take a look at XML4Dalies from Spherico http://www.spherico.com/filmtools/XML4Dailies/index.htmlby digitalheaven - Café LA Re: changing a photo's dpi resolution on a MAC - 16 years agoThere's no reason to change the DPI of a file - it has no meaning in video.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Estimate on File Size for 90 minute film - 16 years agoLet me spill the beans....the reason that they don't match is that by default the AJA calculator uses decimal calculation of MB and GB where 1GB=1000MB. However, the OS X file system uses binary calculations where 1GB=1024MB so we decided that VideoSpace should work the same way. If you look in the AJA preferences, you'll see there's an explanation about this and you have the option to changeby digitalheaven - Café LA Re: The saga continues - need export / transfer help - 16 years agoFWIW it's a bad idea to be exporting out to "None" codec. It's not supported in real time by FCP (as you discovered) and it's also RGB (rather than YUV) so you'd be putting the image through two more colour conversions for no reason. ProRes or uncompressed is the way to go.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Print to Video: Clarification please - 16 years agoDepends what you've changed Steve. If you changed the options in the RT popup menu on the top left of the Timeline window then that doesn't affect the render quality. If you've changed the Frame Rate or Resolution popup menus in the Render Control of Sequence Settings then that does affect the render quality. In which case, just select all clips in the Timeline and press Ctrl-B twice to brby digitalheaven - Café LA Re: sending video to europe - 16 years agoEven in France, they edit with "PAL" settings. It only gets encoded to SECAM at the transmission stage. Up to that point (and in FCP), it is exactly the same as working in "PAL".by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Red Line & Audio Beeps - 16 years agoAre you editing from a DV stream file not captured in FCP? That's one reason for unrendered audio. Also make sure that you have changed the User Preference > General tab > Real-time Audio Mixing to something like 24 tracks. The default 8 tracks is way too low for today's systems.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: CAPTURE BIG ENDIAN AUDIO - 16 years agoWhat is this mysterious French tapeless system called?by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: which XML version marries with which FCP version? - 16 years agoXML v1 was announced for v4 but actually shipped with FCP4.1by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: XML import of anamorphic clips broken in FCP6.0.1? - 16 years agoAn update on this. After some cross global collaboration with Jude, it seems that if the movie opens in QT Player as 16:9 then the export/import works as expected. If you take a movie that wasn't flagged as 16:9 when it was created (opens in QT Player as 4:3), then the export/import doesn't work properly. This is definitely a change from previous versions where the anamorphic flag at the clipby digitalheaven - The Bug Report Re: Need Info on FCP and Unity - 16 years agoNope sorry Kevin I don't. You could try asking on the Avid-L2 http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Avid-L2/by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Need Info on FCP and Unity - 16 years agoCorrect me if I'm wrong Joe but "recycled Unity" sounds like old hardware/software. Like before Avid's NAB2007 announcement of FCP support on Unity.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Need Info on FCP and Unity - 16 years agoKoz, you'd better sit down.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Nested sequence for Time Code Reader? - 16 years agoBecause that's the only way to get it showing continuous timecode throughout your sequence: If you want the sequence timecode to be shown, then you need to nest your edited sequence and then apply the filter to the nest. If you want the source timecode on each clip to be shown, then the filter would need to be applied to all the clips in your sequence.by digitalheaven - Café LA XML import of anamorphic clips broken in FCP6.0.1? - 16 years agoCan anyone else confirm this. It might have also been broken in FCP6 but I no longer have that version. XML files containing clips with the <anamorphic> flag set to TRUE are not imported by FCP6.0.1 correctly - the anamorphic flag remains unchecked after import. A roundtrip by exporting an anamorphic clip out to XML and then back in, shows the issue nicely. thanksby digitalheaven - The Bug Report Re: long term FCP project..World Changing - 16 years agoCatDV has a good reputation http://www.squarebox.co.uk/by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: FCP 6 XML disaster - 16 years agoIt's always been the case that when a new XML format is introduced, the previous versions of FCP are unable to read it. For that reason, on the XML export window, there's a version number popup menu that allows you to choose an earlier XML version that will be compatible. So the most recent version of XML is v4, introduced with FCP6. It's the default setting so your file would not be readableby digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Lots of Sequences? - 16 years agoClosing the Timeline window doesn't work because the tabs still exist in the Canvas...but if you close the Canvas window then the sequences all get closed.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Dailies window burn plugin - 16 years agoNot us but you might be meaning this one: Unfortunately data like clip name, shot, take etc is not made available to plug-ins.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Can I import a PC font into FCP? - 16 years agoIf the PC font is Truetype then it should work fine on a Mac. Open up Applications/Font Book and go to the File > Add Fonts menu.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Adding extra angle to Multicam sequence - 16 years agoAFAIK, when you add an extra angle to a multiclip, FCP uses the original sync method that you used when you created it. In other words if you used In points to create the original multiclip then you need to use the matching in point on the clip you're adding.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: MultiCam WorkFlow - 16 years agoDerek, you're absolutely right. An even quicker way to do it.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: MultiCam WorkFlow - 16 years agoMy assistant used to have to do this most days. This is was the quickest way to do it: - Log angle 1 as normal - Change tape and reel number - Option-Drag the angle 1 TC from the Media Start column in the Browser to the Mark In TC in the Log and Capture window - Do the same for the Media End TC - Press Log Clip Saves retyping the TC manually.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Pro-Res in the real world... - 16 years agoYes it's higher. The comparison is uncompressed HD quality at uncompressed SD data rates - ProRes is about 1/6th the file size.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Pro-Res in the real world... - 16 years agoAFAIK all blackmagic and AJA cards willl allow encoding to ProRes in real time (on the CPU) in the same way that they can to DVCPROHD, DVCPRO50 etc. The ioHD box has to have an onboard hardware codec so it can transfer HD data over a FW800 cable. BTW The data rate of ProRes is actually higher than DVCPROHD so you aren't going to save disk space.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Moving Avid Xpress Pro HD Project over to FCP 5.1.1 - 16 years agoAlan It really depends on what you need to achieve and how much work needs to be done. Is this a simple cutdown or a recut? Are you mixing the final audio or will it go to a mixer? If you are only doing a simple cutdown of the original show for duration purposes, then forget about getting separate tracks (for video at least). Get a playout/export without graphics and bring that into FCP. Until yesterday when I got an email to say it had shipped and guess what turned up today: http://www.avid2fcp.com/?p=40by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: OT : Nice broadband speed test - 16 years agoSpeedtest is very cool.
