You could multi-select them in batches by command-clicking on them then hitting the delete key which will reduce the number of keystrokes required.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: In marker out marker shift zoom - 17 years agoNope that's not true but certain areas of the BBC are going for FCP in a big way. Not just the BBC - there's encouraging moves to FCP from other major broadcasters and production companies.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: In marker out marker shift zoom - 17 years agoYou can do it right now: - Mark in/out points - Press Option-A (selects clips between mark in/out on autoselected tracks) - Press Shift-Option-Z (fits selection to timeline window) or this is easier: - Select clip(s) - Press Shift-Option-Zby digitalheaven - Café LA Re: HDLOG - 17 years agoWell as you mentioned it...MovieLogger v1.5 as a Universal Binary with support for HDV and DVCPROHD is on schedule for release in mid-December. You heard it here first!by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: How many minutes of HDV1080i 50i footage can I store on on GB? - 17 years agoJoey, I knew I should have made that logo bigger :-)by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: trim thoughts... - 17 years agoAbsolutely. The irony is that I changed my editing style when I started using an Avid product - DS. All of a sudden I could quickly trim, slice and move clips directly on the timeline without having to go into a different mode. When I switched from DS to FCP, it was a very easy transition because the timelines worked in a similar way.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: trim thoughts... - 17 years agoI also never use the Trim Edit window but trim directly on the timeline and use the Blade tool a lot. When I say this to Avid editors they usually give me a look of utter bewilderment. :-)by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Intel Quad chips - 17 years agoIs there any indication that these could appear in the MBP? Seems more likely that these could be a Mac Pro only option. I just got a C2D 2.33GHz MacBook Pro and it's a fantastic system, I wouldn't wait Jamie. It will smoke your G5 anyway :-)by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Critique this workflow - 17 years agoYou can export to a DVCPRO50 AVI file if you use "Using QuickTime Conversion" and change the Options. I have no idea what the PC has to have installed to be able to play it back though.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Noise Industries releases FxFactory for Final Cut Studio - 17 years agoHuh? Buying a new Intel Mac won't get you an Intel version of FCP. Most people have not had a bad experience with sending the disks in for the crossgrade. I got the new disks in 5 days.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Importing still images into an Anamorphic timeline - 17 years agoIf you're creating an image in Photoshop at 16:9 ratio and you still want to squish it to 720x480 before importing into FCP then that is a totally fine way of working. What you must do however is manually tell FCP that the image is anamorphic (because there's nothing in the Photoshop file to indicate this), so after importing the image(s), select them in the Browser and check the Anamorphic columby digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Alternative to DH Counter? - 17 years agoAha, Casey you've just given me an idea for a sneaky workaround. I think you said you wanted a 45 minute count up: - Load DH_Counter into the Viewer and set the duration to 2 hours 30 mins - Create a new sequence (called "Counter sub" and edit DH_Counter into it at the full 2hrs 30mins - Now drag the "Counter Sub" sequence from the Browser into the viewer and mark an in poby digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Alternative to DH Counter? - 17 years agoDerek is right, Casey's looking for leading zeroes and colon on the mins:secs option and he's already emailed me about it. Currently DH_Counter doesn't provide this option but it's a great idea for a future release :-)by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Need advanced "broadcast safe" help - 17 years agoIf you're going to be doing this regularly and to tight specs then the way forward would be to get a hardware legaliser unit. This sits between your capture card output and the deck and legalises the signal in real time. http://www.eyeheight.com/products_by_family.asp#highDef is one such company that makes these devices and there will othersby digitalheaven - Café LA Re: What does this mean? - 17 years agoShelley I think you're probably talking about the vertical lines that only appear on the lower half of the scrubber bar. These are markings that indicate every 5 minutes in the clip or timeline. So if you have a very long sequence there will be lots of them but they won't appear at all on a clip/sequence of less than 5 mins duration.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: plugin Universal Binary for FCP - 17 years agoAny plug-in written in FXScript is automatically compatible with Intel. This includes: Digital Heaven Joe Maller Nattress CHV CGM and lots more. The only After Effects/Intel compatible plug-ins are from RE:Vision Effects. All the other AE plug-ins are PowerPC only at the moment.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Two simple key frame questions - 17 years agoAlso there's the keyboard shortcuts: Shift-K Next keyframe Option-K Previous keyframeby digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Avid vs. FCP - 17 years agoAs an Avid sales support document meant only for the eyes of resellers, it's an amusing read but full of errors. The Avid/FCP argument is one of those things that turns into a religious war. There is no right or wrong answer but I will add one thought. While lower cost is usually cited as the major reason for choosing FCP over Avid (and FCP undeniably offers more bang for the buck), IMHO FCPby digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Nudging the timeline? - 17 years agoYou can move clips with transitions in certain circumstances: - If you are moving two or more clips which have transitions directly between them. - If the transition is at the start of a clip (gap on left) and the alignment is set to "Start on Edit" - If the transition is at the end of a clip (gap on right) and the alignment is set to "End on Edit" Other combinations wby digitalheaven - Café LA Re: creating a still from 16:9 DVCPRO HD & retain aspect ratio - 17 years agoThere are a few ways: - Export stills directly from the DVCPROHD timeline and then resize in Photoshop (divide height by nine then multiply by 16 to get the correct width) - Nest your DVCPROHD sequence into a new HD sequence which has the pixel aspect ratio set to "Square" and do exports from that. - Set up a custom preset in Compressor which does an export to TIF at the correct 16by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: moving charts and graphs - 17 years agoor this: Nattress this Boris RED or this CGM Chartsby digitalheaven - Café LA Re: How much RAM does FCP address? - 17 years agoFCP uses up to 4GB of RAM because Mac OS is currently 32 bit. That will all change when Leopard is released with 64 bit support.by digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Playhead sync. Can't get it to stay on. - 17 years agoAre you double clicking clips in the timeline to open them up in the Viewer? That would be a reason why the playhead sync could be resetting to "Off". Put the Playhead Sync onto "Open" and just move the playhead in the timeline to the new shot. It will automatically open up in the Viewer for adjustment. Go to the Applications > Utilities folder and there's an app called DigitalColor Meter which gives a colour value for whereever the mouse is. Why one flickers and the other does not... - 17 years agoI'm not going to try and top Koz's superb story but Doug, you really got to forget about DPIs of files in FCP! I think you're confusing scanning an image at a higher DPI (which will produce more pixels and allow you to zoom into the image without degredation), with the DPI value of a file (which FCP doesn't use or care about). When you scan an image, the DPI value is stored in the file, so itby digitalheaven - Café LA Re: Uncompressed quicktime files for Flash application - 17 years agoIf Mr Flash wants an uncompressed file then don't choose the 8 or 10 bit FCP codecs because he won't be able to play it back unless he has FCP installed. Instead you should do an Export > Using QuickTime Conversion and set the codec to "None" which is a standard codec even on PCs. However...if you're working in DV, there's very little point in doing an uncompressed export, so I'd juby digitalheaven - Café LA Re: A doozey! Why one flickers and the other does not... - 17 years agoYep Koz is right. DPI matters only when you scan an image or print it out and FCP does neither of these things, so it doesn't need to handle DPI. A 1600x800 image at 72DPI and a 1600x800 image at 400DPI will behave exactly the same in FCP. The only thing that FCP cares about is the pixel dimensions of an image. When I zoom back to the original setting, the selection is still not displaying just on that zoom percentage. Definitely weird. Martin Baker www.digital-heaven.co.ukby digitalheaven - Café LA Re: having problems with the trim tool - 17 years agoYep I've had the weird issue with an edit point selections not highlighting at certain zoom settings (even though it really is selected). Martin Baker www.digital-heaven.co.uk NEW! BigTime resizable timecode display for FCPby digitalheaven - Café LA Re: A doozey! Why one flickers and the other does not... - 17 years agoMost still images will flicker if you put them in an interlaced sequence and view on a video monitor. Why? Well if the image contains fine horizontal detail then those pixels will appear on only one of the two fields within a frame so they are being shown for 1/50th sec and then not shown for the next 1/50th sec (in PAL). That shows up as flicker. If you scale the image down then the problem becby digitalheaven - Café LA |
