Only had 25 mins on it so far - had to switch back to do some urgent work until I had time to update some of my drivers for hardware - eg the RAIDs!by Ben King - Café LA

So far FCPX on Lion feels the same and there are no obvious improvements in performance by running it under Lion. I will have to see how reliable it is by running it for some time - maybe the lost media and undo bugs wont be an issue but who knows.by Ben King - Café LA - X

As I said if you see the playback on the GTX285 (no rendering) is about 28fps so why the sluggish playback in FCPX? Still not happy.by Ben King - Café LA - X

Are you suggesting my GPU isn't up to scratch? Bigger and badder than the GTX285 is not currently available outside of a Hackintosh... even the 4000 wouldn't beat it in a lot of tests and certainly not in the ProApps. I know ProApps are more optimised for the AMD GPUs but even the 5870 isn't that much faster than my 285! Until Apple release the AMD 6990 or 6970 as an option and Nvidia deby Ben King - Café LA - X

In FCP7 I can put basic text (without shadow) over video and playback in realtime In FCPX I can put basic text over video and get choppy frame dropping playback until the text is rendered. Considering FCPX's other really powerful realtime capabilities I am pretty annoyed that the basic stuff is not!by Ben King - Café LA - X

There is no doubt the lower end and entry level edit market will be huge - this means for third-parties and for consultancy, training, documentation on FCPX, Motion 5 and Compressor will be VERY profitable regardless of any of us complaining. I can foresee we will be asked to take projects started in FCPX to finish. My advice would indeed to go off and learn (or relearn) Avid or add to Premby Ben King - Avid Media Composer

Highlight the clip or bladed section you want and press does a ripple delete. Dragging clip(s) in position mode will add a gap where you make it or overwrite instead of insert/ripple magnetic timeline.by Ben King - Café LA - X

I'm not sure why they don't offer FCS3 on the App Store as Separates - they could always put a disclaimer and say there is no official support as its legacy software...by Ben King - Café LA

Actually the bug can make things worse than not saving - it can register the undos - then save and not show it - when you restart its however many undos you went back on! This only happened on the first occasion - so if anyone else gets the undo bug (and the project isn't important) please try undoing more then restart the app, see if you can replicate.by Ben King - Café LA - X

Guys guys! I know everyone is still very upset about Apple's choice to EOL FCP7 and has alienated a great many Pros with FCPX but lets be civil here please. Venting your anger (thats really about about Apple) or off-hand comments (even wrapped up in an analogy) could be misconstrued as insults and in the heat of things people will be insulted. Hey Ray Yes you can and if you get Motion as well you can create your own templates that are editable (such as text input) directly in FCPX. You can also layer text and images as with FCP7 et al. Photoshop PSDs do work including transparency but not currently multi-layered it simply loads flattened.by Ben King - Café LA - X

I've just been playing with the text tools - very customisable - very easy - very pretty... But even simple text overlay makes the storyline chug until its rendered. Annoying! Have fed back to Apple asking for a performance increase on basic text - jeez if they can do realtime multiply composite mode with a skew and key-framed transformation with video why the hell can't they make textby Ben King - Café LA - X

Yep you can overlay video - its pretty darn quick (depending on your CPU/GPUs) and I get realtime 1080p playback of a lot of layers with transformations and composite modes on my 8core Xeon with GTX285 even mixing H.264, ProRes and XDCAM codecs. I haven't played much with the text tools much but as far as I know you can make your own templates.by Ben King - Café LA - X

As Walter (but on a far smaller number) my Macs will continue to run FCP 7 However they all have the full Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection anyway because we do a lot of animation, design and web work in addition to Film & TV and I've been running Premiere for clients and for broadening my skills since CS4. (I actually used to edit on Media 100 with Adobe Premiere 4.2.1 back in the daby Ben King - Café LA

Yes I'm running it with no issues - although there are allegedly issues with Adobe and Nvidia Quadro 4000 CUDA drivers. Check carefully before you update if you have that card.by Ben King - Café LA

Ah this is just using the Kona Card as an extended desktop - no good for broadcast monitoring at all. This request is for when you are expanding and collapsing clips to work on AV separately eg: creating a slip edit J or L cut ? show audio that extends beyond the clips video boundaries on the by a greyed out extension and/or an icon/colour at either end to indicate that the audio extends beyond the clip range.by Ben King - Café LA - X
