Re: FCP Sequence Prep Procedures for Color - 16 years agoAs for the speed ramping issue, there are a couple of approaches I take to solve the issue. ONE: 1. Duplicate the sequence in FCP for the Color prep 2. Send the sequence out to Color and do the grading 3. Upon the Send to FCP procedure, you will get extended timeline in FCP with all the speed adjusted clips stretched out. 4. Open the original FCP sequence, pre-color corrected one.by janghos - Color FCP Sequence Prep Procedures for Color - 16 years agoI'd like to post the procedures that I take prior to send the sequences to Color. If there's something you would add or change, please respond. CC Prep Procedures <Duplicate the sequence prior to the CC prep-ing> 1. Lock all the Audio Tracks. 2. Compile Video Tracks to V1 while checking overlap, opacity, and compositing. In this case, you'd benefit, quality-wise, to set the compressor as the other codec, not the HDV. What your timeline is set up to do is to down convert (or recompress) the other HD format into HDV format. Since you mentioned that the majority media wasn't the HDV stuff, itby janghos - Café LA Re: 23.98P vs 23.98Psf - 16 years agoHi Just to make it simple to understand, 23.98P is for progressive frames in drop-frame timeline. The frames are captured/displayed as complete images (just like still pictures). 23.98Psf is basically same as 23.98P when displayed because they both are progressive frames. However, the difference is during the capture of the frames in camera. Instead of capturing the frame as a completeby janghos - Café LA Re: color usable? - 16 years agoHi Michael, Thanks for your reply. I was just thinking though, not everyone who's going to theater projection has access to previewing their film. For example, when people summit their films to various film festivals, I doubt anyone has luxury of doing so. If this assumption makes any sense, what's the best way to approach this other than praying for it? Best,by janghos - Color Re: Rendered Media missing - 16 years agoI am sure you know this, but just in case. When you send the rendered sequence back to FCP, FCP doesn't open the sequence from Color for you. You will see a new sequence in the Browser, with the original sequence name plus "(sent from Color)." You will need to open this sequence to see your color correction work. Also, I don't use the default color document folders. I alwaysby janghos - Color Re: anyone know the tip on how to use the vignette effect thanks? - 16 years agoYou will need to open one of the secondary rooms, activate the vignette, and shaping the vignette in the geometry room. Then, you will come back to the secondary room to grade either inside of the vignette or outside of it. If my explanation is not good enough, click on the help tab in Color. The manual is pretty well-written. Have fun!by janghos - Color Re: Color correcting: How do I change color for one item in an image - 16 years agoAlso, you might find it useful to use more than one secondary rooms if the character that's wearing the jeans is walking or running, which results in the background showing in different shapes in between two legs. In other words, applying multiple vignettes. Good luck.by janghos - Color Re: color usable? - 16 years agoHi Jude, Yes, I am trying it on a project that I am grading now. Moreover, I am doing an HD Project. I am looking at the scopes very very carefully during the primary grading. Only hard part is not to depend on the preview on my computer monitor since it's not going to match the HD displays. Once I am done grading, I am going to burn an HD-DVD and watch on an HD television set. If itby janghos - Color Re: On monitoring..... - 16 years agoOkay, I am using a 22" CRT monitor to grade with Color. I've heard I shouldn't, but I can't afford an HD monitor AND I have a made up theory that makes me keep doing what I am doing. Please tell me what you guys think. 1. Perform the Primary grade using the scopes very carefully on my monitor, which is set with proper color gamut (NTSC for TV, Adobe RGB for Web). 2. Perform the Seby janghos - Color Re: How to convert 16:9 DV footage into Pro Res 422HD??? - 16 years agoHi Graeme, That is one valuable information that makes me feel really happy about using FCP. I need to get your plug-in's ASAP to be able to see the glory of what it can do. By the way, I always find it very difficult to find these inside information of what the software actually do without the users knowing it. Is there any resources that you would recommend to get to know more of thby janghos - Color Re: How to convert 16:9 DV footage into Pro Res 422HD??? - 16 years agoThis is such an interesting thread. I've never known that the Color converts all the footage I throw at to 4:4:4 space. I'm going to have to dig out some DV footage and do some test. Also, the things that I've shoot in 4:2:2 space, too! To Graeme, Is there any other programs that does this conversion during the import process? If the Color is one of the few ones, I really don't see aby janghos - Color Re: color usable? - 16 years agoHi, It may sound silly, but I can't resist. What do you guys think about color correcting on a computer monitor, but set the monitor display set-up to NTSC color gamut? I'd not attempt to grade, say, theatrical release copy or anything on a computer monitor, but it doesn't sound too bad to do color correction on a computer monitor if that monitor natively supports more colors than TV setsby janghos - Color Re: How to convert 16:9 DV footage into Pro Res 422HD??? - 16 years agoHi, I haven't attempted to do this before. However, it seems to me that you will be working in a 4:1:1 or 4:2:0 space IF you decide to upres when you output from Color. As for when to upres the footage (Again, I haven't done this), I thought it would make sense to upres it before you bring it into Color in order to make any use out of the superior color space, in your case 4:2:2. Howevby janghos - Color Re: Log and Capture - "Preview Disabled" - 17 years agoBrad, I'm really glad that solved your problem. I think OSX kind of resets something when we do that procedure, which I have no idea what it is. Good luck on your project, Nookby janghos - Café LA Re: Capture Question Please... - 17 years agoI second using the non-controllable device set up if you're not going to use the audio at all from your source tape nor you are batch capturing the footage. Also, dubbing the source tape by generating another set of timecode onto another DV tape might just work fine, too. Nookby janghos - Café LA Re: Log and Capture - "Preview Disabled" - 17 years agoJust one more quick note, I'm sure you've tried, but it is always a good option to turn off FCP and turn it back on. It might sound weird, but it is another very good option, too, to turn off your computer and unplug the power cord, give it a minute or two, and start it up again. Once upon a time when I was chasing horribly by a deadline, there was an error, which I tried all the things thatby janghos - Café LA Re: Log and Capture - "Preview Disabled" - 17 years agoHi Brad, I know how frustrated that problem could be. The first suggestion would be to open up the audio/video setting by 'option+command+Q' and make sure you have all the right settings for your project. If you find that you have all the settings properly set up, you could switch the device control set up in the very same audio/video setting window. But you'd better off trying this onby janghos - Café LA |
