"operation not allowed. You cannot nest sequences.... - 16 years ago"operation not allowed. You cannot nest sequences with different editing timebases" This is the message I get when I try to insert a psd file (gfx) created in Photoshop. Here's more detail: I've created a title in Photoshop and exported it as a layered file so I can animate it within FCP. The import went well, dbled clicked on the file from the browser. The layers opened in the timby xavpil - Café LA Can I create graphics using Illustrator? - 16 years agoI know that Photoshop works to create layered gfx, but I am not very good at using it. Illustrator is easier for me. I tried opening a layered psd file created in Ill. but it wouldn't work. So I opened the file with Photoshop but like I said my Photoshop and I are not the best friends. Any tip? Thxby xavpil - Café LA Re: Trying to open a project - 16 years agothe message is now "project created with a different version of FCP" I guess this is answer to my problem I'll keep your advices though. Thanks allby xavpil - Café LA Re: Trying to open a project - 16 years agoCopied the file and foler to my external HD Same version of FCP (5.1).....by xavpil - Café LA Trying to open a project - 16 years agoI taking over someone's work. I just got a DVD with a Media folder and the FCP project file. When I dble click or try to import the Project I get an General Error 41 message..... Any body has a clue FCP 5.0.4 PowerMac G4by xavpil - Café LA Re: MacBook 15" to edit? - 16 years agothanks, Wayne. I take everybody's opinion/advice for what they are: Opinions. I really apreciate your input and will keep you guys posted on my purchase. In the meantime, my PM G4 will have to behave and work hard!by xavpil - Café LA Re: MacBook 15" to edit? - 16 years agoThanks, Wayne, for your good advices. However Ben seems to be pretty happy with his MBP. I already have an external HD, keyboad and all. Also have a Studio Display (2002... clear frame.. Studio or Cinema?...). But i hear you Wayne. Just need to hear more from other MBP users.by xavpil - Café LA MacBook 15" to edit? - 16 years agoAccording to the answers I got to my earlier posting re: Editing with a PowerMAc, everybody seems to agree that it is too old... I need to buy something then.... One thing is that I need portability.(and enough power/speed so I can work) Another thing is that I am not getting paid yet to edit and therefore budget is an issue. I am basically trying to get the best possible for not too mucho diby xavpil - Café LA Re: Anybody working on a PowerMac G4 Dual? - 16 years agoA couple things, Wayne: I won't be editing for money, yet. So budget is a BIG issue... With the student discount i can get the laptop for $1700. This makes me "save" $800 in comparison to your set up. Do you think a Quad is faster than a 15" PB? I am wondering if anybody's editing with a MB... I'll post the question. what's your input?by xavpil - Café LA Re: Anybody working on a PowerMac G4 Dual? - 16 years agoi just feel like i could use the portability of the laptop. but you have a good point....by xavpil - Café LA Re: Anybody working on a PowerMac G4 Dual? - 16 years agoand my PM isn't even as fast/powerfull as a PowerBook. Thxby xavpil - Café LA Anybody working on a PowerMac G4 Dual? - 16 years agoI still have a PM G4 Dual, 867mgh, 60 GB with external HD (160gb). Now here's the dilemma: Do i boost my old G4 or do I buy a 15" MacBook Pro? Is anybody's working off a PM G4? If so, are you ok with it, and what are your specs? Thx PS: THe obvious is that $$ are an issueby xavpil - Café LA Re: Transitions - 16 years agoI totally agree with the fact that yes, promos are over-thought. After watching a cut 3-4 times, producers and clients start to not watch the cut itself. I see cuts being tweaked and re-tweaked to finally come back to where it was to start with. And in the meantime so much money and time have been spent. I don't think we live in the same country.... :-) I don't think that main stream ameriby xavpil - Café LA Re: Transitions - 16 years agoProducers want more than 'regular' cuts because the clients want more, because the viewer wants more.by xavpil - Café LA Re: Transitions - 16 years agoare there such things as sissy promos? :-) Thanks againby xavpil - Café LA Re: Transitions - 16 years agoHey Wayne, I meant how to make your own transitions. As far as being more clear, I am talking about promos, in general. I know that like in anything else there are trends and you need to "follow" the trend when you want to fit, at least to start out. I am just curious to know if people like Mike have tips to share. Thanksby xavpil - Café LA Re: Transitions - 16 years agoCool tips, Mike. I actually work in a post house where I am assistant editor. I watch the editors but they work essentially on kids programming. The transitions are very clean and simple. I like your advice of watching good promos, or the ones I like and try to reproduce one at a time. It gets so overwhelming when you stare at a 15 s promo and try to retain everything. One at a time! Thanksby xavpil - Café LA Re: Transitions - 16 years agoThanks for the link. However I am looking for simpler transitions. Not so much gfx and vfx. I also guess you're right. Most of these transitions are hand created. I guess I need someone to share their "how to's"by xavpil - Café LA Transitions - 16 years agoI am looking for "typical" transitions used in TV promos. The ones offered in FCP don't seem to be great. As an example the audio fx "whoosh" is a "typical" sfx found in 90% of promos If people working on promos read this, they'll know what I mean.by xavpil - Café LA Close Gap not always working - 16 years agoFor some reasons when I try to close the gap between 2 clips in the timeline, FCP won't let me do the usual Delete... SOmetimes it works, somtime it doesn't. What am I doing wrong?by xavpil - Café LA 720/50p from FCP to Avid 1080 24p - 16 years agoHi, I am using footage shot in Italy onto P2 cards (DVCPro HD 720p50). I need to get this footage into an Avid bay in 1080 24p. A few questions: 1- Do you usually import footage the WAY IT IS, and then export the WAY YOU WANT IT, or the opposite: Import the way you want it and then simply export. 2- I used the 1st solution and tried to export, but then had a problem. What should I use:by xavpil - Café LA Re: Sharing projecet between 2 computers - 16 years agoThanks for helping. So If I understood correctly, I need a drive to share the project. Can I burn the media and project onto a DVD? The sequence is 2 min long and I just need the media related to this spot?by xavpil - Café LA Sharing projecet between 2 computers - 16 years agoI need to finish a job that was started by someone else in another location. It is a 2 minute spot. I don't need all the footage used to create the spot. Just the media linked to this spot. What is the best way to get the project to my computer: Quicktime file, XML file.... Thxby xavpil - Café LA Re: HD Set up - 16 years agoThe P2 card is a small proportion of the shoot I would do. The idea behind the card is great but the camera specs and storage capacity-price ratio isn't great. But it is the way of the future, specailly with the new 16Gb card.by xavpil - Café LA Re: HD Set up - 16 years agoI want to be able to shoot using HDCAM or DVCPro. So you guys rent a deck to capture and rent again to output, correct?by xavpil - Café LA |
