How to find/move original clips on a drive to use on Premiere? - 3 years agoUsed to use FCP7 for years, but moved back to Premiere a few years back. My daughter has project on FCPX, it's actually several projects. I want to open and finish it on Premiere. I am able to get the XML file and using DaVinci Resolve as middle man, I can get the XML file opened and all that. So now here is the problem. She imported all raw project footage into FCPX to edit. Now I want to movby Jeff Nelson - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut 7 on new Mac Pro -- can't read C300 files - 10 years agoThank you, Dennis! I was able to download and install, all good to go now! Appreciate the link. Jeffby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Final Cut 7 on new Mac Pro -- can't read C300 files - 10 years agoI recently purchased a mac pro which I'm liking a lot. I installed FCP 7 and have been editing without problems. However, I shot yesterday on a canon C300 and went to Log and Transfer the footage. No dice. It can see the card but says there is no compatible format on it. ?? I was able to open the footage using Canon FX Utility and back it up. But still no way to convert it to ProRes Lby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: How to rip a DVD and re-make it - 10 years agoGood point, Derek. Thanks. I know how I can make the fix on the video in question, but I am just wondering whether there is software that lets me take a DVD and preserve everything without having to re-encode everything, other than the one item I need to fix. The menus w/music, chapter markers, extras and so on, none of that needs to change. If there were a way to rip it and preserve all thoseby Jeff Nelson - Café LA How to rip a DVD and re-make it - 10 years agoI have an old project from many years ago and the client wants to make a change. I don't have all the original elements on my system and he only wants a very small change made in one of the videos. Is there a way to take the contents of the finished DVD and import it into DVDSP, fix that one video and then re-burn? I am trying to figure out a way to do it that doesn't require ripping the thby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: Storage -- need something big for a documentary. Suggestions? - 10 years agoThanks, Shane. Will give them a call tomorrow to see which they recommend for this project.by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Storage -- need something big for a documentary. Suggestions? - 10 years agoI have 7 CalDigit VRs with a lot of footage from a documentary I've been shooting over a couple years. Since I shot in a few different formats I want to encode all to pro-res LT and organize as I get it transcribed. So I am thinking of getting something big that I could move everything onto to work from. I might have 10 TB of video, is a guess. What do people use as a big raid system?by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: Weird FCP problem -- reinstall FCP 7? - 11 years agoThanks, Derek! (again)by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: how I solved it - 11 years agoThanks, Derek. Yeah, I will do that instead since I might be fiddling with this and that's going to be a heck of a lot easier than tweaking my workaround.by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Weird FCP problem -- reinstall FCP 7? - 11 years agoI have had FCP 7 for many years, worked with no problems. No some weird stuff happening. When I want to put a fade on an audio track, I go up to Effects and select Audio Transition and instead of putting the audio fade on the timeline, a "Default US Keyboard" thing pops up as if I want to customize the keyboard. I can't get it to put an audio fade, it thinks I'm calling for this defaby Jeff Nelson - Café LA how I solved it - 11 years agoI used 3 Oval Iris transitions in a row. So you want the picture to iris down to maybe 80% of the picture is black (and the remaining oval is 20% showing), have it hold there at 80% for 5 seconds, then go the rest of the way from 80% to 100% (i.e, black). Here's what I did: 1) Select the first part that you want to go from 0% to 80% (for example). Put the Oval Iris transition on the endby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Problem solved - 11 years agoI would delete my original post if I knew how.by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Iris wipe for ending, with pause? - 11 years agoWant to end a show with the standard Charlie Chaplin iris wipe. I can do it with Oval Iris, except -- I want to put a pause in it. So it starts irising down, pauses for a few seconds, then irses down the rest. But no way to put keyframes into transitions. So any suggestions? Thanks, Jeffby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Drives drives drives -- what is a good high capacity setup? - 11 years agoI have 7 CalDigit VR2's and SO MANY cables and cords because of that. What a mess to look at! That's cause I just bought another when I needed some more room. Now I'm thinking to get some major storage to simplify my work space and try to sell these smaller drives (though they're great). What recommendations does anyone have for some massive storage for a home office? What do you guys hby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: Video and audio stuck together. Help! - 12 years agoGuess I was Control-L-ing specific clips rather than Shift-L. Thanks, Derek.by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: Video and audio stuck together. Help! - 12 years agoThank you so much. Is there any kind of global command to change the default? Or just select the whole timeline and Shift L? Thanks again.by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Video and audio stuck together. Help! - 12 years agoI must've changed a setting somewhere, all of the clips in my timeline, the audio and video are attached/paired/whatever. If I stretch the picture, the audio stretches too, even though I don't want it. And I don't see how to make audio and video separate from each other. Thanks, Jeffby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: Help! Quick solution for PAL --> NTSC - 12 years agoNick, genius. Thank you! Method #1 works great for this, which is going to be projected on powerpoint, looks great on computer and TV. Thanks for the help, guys!by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: Help! Quick solution for PAL --> NTSC - 12 years agoThank you, guys. Trying Nick's suggestions now.by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: Help! Quick solution for PAL --> NTSC - 12 years agoThank you, Derek. I didn't shoot this thing, just a bunch of inserts for it. You are right, when I downloaded I just dropped it into the timeline and clicked ok, and watched. Then I shot and added what was needed, got client okay, went to output to DVD -- yikes! So I take it by your response that you don't have anything helpful to suggest in the present situation?by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Help! Quick solution for PAL --> NTSC - 12 years agoA client had me take something off the web and do edits on it for a presentation they're doing. All done, approved, time to put it on DVD. To my surprise the frame rate was 25 (meaning PAL), though the stuff I shot and edited in was 24. Is there a way in FCP or other tool to easily convert for NTSC DVD? Need a QUICK solution, or else I'm going to sit here and manually adjust every shot asby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: continuous dropout errors -- when none exist?? - 13 years agoThis problem is resolved...by itself?? Thanks to all who weighed in here. Saturday morning I got up knowing that, after trying Jon Chappell's uninstall and reinstalling FCP 7, restarting, etc., I was still having the same problem. But when trying it again Saturday morning, suddenly everything is working! Did multiple capture tests w/different tapes/frame rates. It's all good. Maybe the Fby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: continuous dropout errors -- when none exist?? - 13 years agoUpdate: I tried Jon Chappell's FCS Remover, then reinstalled fresh. Same problem. Hm...next is erase system drive and reinstall everything? Oy...that will be a real pain if it's coming down to that...by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: continuous dropout errors -- when none exist?? - 13 years ago> The laptop (MacBook Pro?) didn't have a previous installation of any sort... correct? Correct. Thanks for the advice. I guess a simple uninstall/reinstall is where I'll start, and then move to the more draconian solutions after that...when I get the time. Meanwhile am working on my laptop... Thanks again.by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: continuous dropout errors -- when none exist?? - 13 years agoOkay -- additional information. 1) It is not the firewire cable. 2) When I upgraded my main system to FCP 7, I also did a fresh install of the same program onto a new laptop. I am able to play/capture/everything just fine on the FCP on the laptop. So where does that leave me? Uninstall FCP on my main box, and then do a fresh install? I presume I can keep all my filters and pluginsby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: continuous dropout errors -- when none exist?? - 13 years agoThanks. I have run both of these cameras via firewire into this computer for years with zero problems. Only since upgrading to FCP 7 am I suddenly experiencing a situation where I can't even play the camera into the camera without constant freezes. Haven't tried using a different connection to connect yet. Thanks again for any musings on this... Yes, I did install FCS 3 over an existing installation. Have already run some OS X maintenance, will explore your other suggestions. Thanks again. Jeffby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: continuous dropout errors -- when none exist?? - 13 years agoYes, I did. Thanks. But it doesn't have to do with capturing. Simply playing the footage through the camera into the log/capture window (without actually capturing), it won't play smoothly. It freezes every 10 or 20 seconds, no capturing going on. It's the darndest thing. I am waiting for a new firewire cable I ordered to see if it's that. If it's not the cable, I guess I am down to remoby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: additional info - 13 years agoThanks, yes it's Canon HDV and yes, deck control set to Firewire Basic. It is really weird. Every tape I try to play, including full tapes I've captured before for one hour with no code break, is showing a break just in playback, not even in capture. Can't get through one minute of playing anything without FCP somehow losing the signal for a second or two. Will try a new firewire cable tomorroby Jeff Nelson - Café LA |
