Re: VHS Digitisation through MAC - 17 years agoKevin, you mention "Noise reduction/ drop out compensator", what is this? Hardware or software. The reason I ask, is that I do a lot of VHS to DVD conversions, and many of the tapes are EP or very degraded SP recordings. Because of the poor quality, the video signal is often not adequate enough and the video blanks out on my DV recorder and DA Converter. Since I don't have a PAL MiniDV deck, I have to pass the customer to another vendor. While pricing out MiniDV PAL/NTSC conversions, I asked what equipment the local vendor used, and I was told they use the Panasonic Clamshell. I searched google for this device and can find noby Gary Sumlak - Café LA Re: HELP Please!: Need to Run FCP 5 on G4-500 Dual - 17 years agothanks, Jbeal. But, I still need advice on a source for a 2nd hand AGP card. :-)by Gary Sumlak - Café LA Re: HELP Please!: Need to Run FCP 5 on G4-500 Dual - 17 years ago???? Am I being Flamed? If so, what did I do to deserve that? As stated quite plainly earlier, I am not going to use FCP for anything but capturing video. FCP installed just fine on this system, so it meets any hardware requirements tested for by the installer. I installed FCP5 no problem, however, when I try to launch FCP5, I get an error message saying FCP requires AGP Quartz Extreme compatible card. What flavor of Flip2Mac do I need? There are 4 at last count. Also, my next issue is the output file size. There is that nasty 2 GB limit file size in FAT32. I can set the segment size to 2GB in FCP for the QT capture, but what do I do about the AVI or WMV conversions output files? In fact I love the new upgrade! You can now capture video directly in QT for one. That being said, I am running FC Studio - had to for my Quad - so maybe that is the difference. Again, sorry for any confusion. I thought I was giving good advice. Ta.by Gary Sumlak - Café LA Re: wmv converted to mov (quicktime) - 18 years agoQuicktime Pro 7 is only $29.99, cheaper than ANY utility out there that will "fix" your problem. If you are heading in the professional direction, purchasing QT7 should not be an issue as the job you are currently working would pay for QT in the first hour. Besides, you said that you searched a full day for an alternative to buying QT7 for $30. Well, a full day is at least 8 hrs, andby Gary Sumlak - Café LA Re: Advice Needed on Capturing Video on Mac to be Edited in Windows - 18 years agoThanks for the reply Johan. Q: Does the render in Premier have to be done on a PC or can it be done on a Mac? I don't have access to a PC with Premier, but I do have Premier for Mac. And on my Quad, I'm sure the conversion would go pretty fast (faster than on a PC anyway).by Gary Sumlak - Café LA Advice Needed on Capturing Video on Mac to be Edited in Windows - 18 years agoI have a customer for which I will be capturing 15 Reg 8 Tapes. Once captured, I will be transferring the "raw" video files from my Mac HDD directly to a removable HDD, which he supplied, so that he can edit the video himself on a Windows comp. Although, I could not find anything using "Accent color", it was pointed out that this q has been asked many times before - I guess it is all the search key words. Thanks for you patience in answering this repeated question yet again.by Gary Sumlak - Café LA How Can I Create Color Accent on B&W Video - 18 years agoI have a 10 second wedding video scene of a Groom and 4 groom's men. The Groom has a white boutonniere and the Groom's men all have red boutonnieres. The scene starts on a wide shot to the left of the men, the camera passes down the line to bust shots of all the men, then stops on a wide shot of all the men on their right. Taby Gary Sumlak - Café LA Re: reconnecting media - 18 years agoI have a similar problem: I captured media on a Gigabit networked G4-733 (RAID Zero Array) and use G5s for the editing and rendering of the projects. Kind of a poor man's SAN!! :-) Anyway, I did about 5 hr rendering of effects, etc, and yesterday saved the project and quit FCP. All rendered files are saved to the local drive of the G5 working on the project. No matter what I do, all I get is a cross fade on the back half the the transition. I know this may be a basic concept to some, but it is an area that I have never had to deal with, so no mocking please ;-). I do the setup and conversion per your QT video on your site. I do not have any other processes going during the rendering. However, I would really like to have a good (not to expensive) DA box that may do the same so I can capture PAL or NTSC. I import the scans into FCP4, drop them onto a DV-NTSC timeline, apply the effects (Ken Burns... etc.) and then drop the Music tracks onto the timeline. Why? - 18 years agoI go to Easy Setup, Select DV-NTSC, Create a sequence. When I drop an audio file (187.5 K/sec, 48.0 KHz, 16 bit Integer, Stereo), the red render line shows up in the TimeLine. I've checked the properties of the track and the audio ad nauseam, and they are identical. This does not happen if I create a PAL track after using the DV-PAL preset. Basically, I take the original image, duplicate it and the apply Exclusion blend option to the copy (which is on the top level). The effect is obviously tied into the white levels as only the brightest parts of the image are affected, but that is as far as I can figure out the process. As always, any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.by Gary Sumlak - Café LA |
