Re: Display Unavailable - 11 years agoI'm not sure FCP7 is the right tool for you. It's got more quirks (some of which are utterly nonsensical) and has a steeper learning curve. Have you tried FCPX, Adobe Premiere or iMovie?by derekmok - Café LA Re: Display Unavailable - 11 years ago.MOV isn't a codec. To find out the specs of a clip, you need to select a clip in FCP7 and press COMMAND-9, and/or open it in QuickTime Player Pro 7 and check Information (COMMAND-I) or Tracks (COMMAND-J). You'd probably want to hire somebody to do the assistant-editor work for you.by derekmok - Café LA Re: Audio Viewer Bug - Bizarre - 11 years agoPick one of the audio clips and try a simple re-export to either WAV or AIFF, with the same settings. See if the problem occurs. Sometimes even if a file's format is correct, the data within is jumbled and causes problems.by derekmok - Café LA Re: Audio Viewer Bug - Bizarre - 11 years agoWhat format is the audio in? FCP7 doesn't deal equally well with every audio format. WAVs and AIFFs are preferable. Also, delete your Waveform Cache. And try disconnecting the audio files (SHIFT-D), then reconnecting. There have been some inexplicable audio bugs since FCP6 (eg. waveform at the playhead doesn't match the actual audio, audio edits being stuck at an earlier level of render) aby derekmok - Café LA Re: Multiple Capture Scratch Folders - 11 years ago> I have found it simpler to use Capture Now, then to name the clips in FCP afterwards Simpler isn't better. More thorough, methodical and certain is better. > what's actually so terrible about what me and the other amateurs have done? For one thing, if the capture stalls midway through a clip, you get nothing. If you're logging, you can simply change the log and try again. I think it was FCP7 that allowed you to rename things in the FCP Browser and then change the corresponding files to match automatically, but you're not using FCP7. Changing item names in FCP, without changing the fileby derekmok - Café LA Re: Multiple Capture Scratch Folders - 11 years agoAlways select the folder one level above "Capture Scratch". FCP has to have those folders (Capture Scratch, Render Files etc.). You can't delete them. > I can't 'tidy up' retrospectively because the newly captured clips have duplicate names (untitled-1, untitled-2 etc) Why wouldn't you tidy up? You can't leave the clips named like that. Duplicate file names for different fiby derekmok - Café LA Re: clip ration changes in FCP - 11 years agoWell, you wrote "FCP Canvas". Select a clip and press COMMAND-9 and list the clip settings.by derekmok - Café LA Re: Converting a clip with dual AAC stereo tracks and maintaining two separate stereo tracks - 11 years agoYou can also extract each AAC track individually in QuickTime Player Pro 7 (using COMMAND-J, Extract), then export each one separately, and then re-marry them to the video track in FCP.by derekmok - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Lost Sequence - how can I recover? - 11 years agoCheck the Autosave Vault. You also should look at the "Open Recent" menu. Chances are you thought you were saving the right project file but you weren't.by derekmok - Café LA Re: Creating Bullet Points? - 11 years agoThere are also some default Mac symbol characters you could use -- for example, • (OPTION-8). Call up Keyboard Viewer on the top right, then hold down various modifier keys (eg. OPTION, SHIFT-OPTION) to see the characters available.by derekmok - Café LA - X Re: MTS conversion software? - 11 years agoFCP7 Log and Capture. Or, ClipWrap for $50.by derekmok - Café LA Re: how I solved it - 11 years ago> I used 3 Oval Iris transitions in a row. Could have just keyframed a black matte with a Mask Shape filter on it, which would also have allowed you to feather the edges of the iris if desired, as well as adjust the proportions of the iris.by derekmok - Café LA Re: Trouble Exporting to h264 - 11 years agoYou shouldn't be using MPEG-4s in an FCP7 timeline. Slows the system to a crawl. Always convert to a proper intermediate format before editing.by derekmok - Café LA Re: How to delete FCP ver 7 prefs in OS 10.7.5? - 11 years agoNot enough information. Is it garbled? The wrong audio playing, for example from another part of the clip? Playing back slow/fast? What are your Sequence Settings? The clip settings? Did you make sure to match sample rates? Did you render the audio?by derekmok - Café LA Re: Converting .MOV to Uncompressed AVI in Mountain Lion - 11 years ago> I used to be able to do that using Quicktime 7 but that has been removed from Quicktime 7 in Mountain Lion. I might have used MPEG Streamclip, but I think that also depends on Perian, which is broken in Mountain Lion. VLC Player can still do it, I think.by derekmok - Café LA Re: TextOverlay on MovingImage in FCP7 - 11 years agoYou really haven't given nearly enough information for us to diagnose anything. You didn't tell us the specs of your clip, your Sequence Settings, your monitoring method... I assume the text is jerky. Where are you seeing it? In a movie-file output? On a website? That could be a frame-rate issue, it could be a compression issue. Some websites try to offer camera stabilization at the uploby derekmok - Café LA Re: Mixed format timeline - 11 years ago> but of course, the timeline's format was changed when the first clip was added. Why would it be? Unless you asked/allowed FCP to change the format. Did you not make a conscious decision on codec, frame rate, frame size etc. before you started editing? Choosing your editing (and therefore mastering) format is your job, not the software's. > Editing this mess works quite well, buby derekmok - Café LA Re: Conform 60fps tp 24 fps for FCP7 - 11 years ago> I could not see an app "QT Edit" on your site. My solution is to retain the original file names, but add a prefix. What I usually use is the Reel Name (for example, "00001" now becomes "Day 01 Card 01 00001&quby derekmok - Café LA Re: Exporting Stills fron FCP - 11 years agoExport - Using QuickTime Conversion - Still Image.by derekmok - Café LA Re: Another media manager question - 11 years ago> i lost those before and since then i haven't bothered to even assign clip names any longer. it's not great to live with Clip 1, Clip2... > Clip 364 Boom. A simple resave in Photoshop could fix it.by derekmok - Café LA - X Re: Another media manager question - 11 years ago> regarding the reel number (all clips are brought in with L&T) - no clips have a reel name Despite what you think, that is a problem. In an online/offline workflow (which is what you ended up with), a reel name is essential. It also affects FCP's ability to keep track of the clip -- and the file relationship -- in unpredictable ways. > when i import the files, i can rename themby derekmok - Café LA Re: Imported QT to IPhone not appearing on phone - 11 years agoYou say the video doesn't appear on the iPod, but then you say it doesn't appear on the phone. Which is it? How old is the iPod or iPhone?by derekmok - Café LA Re: Another media manager question - 11 years ago> With tapeless media in FCP, "reel" comes from the folder name in which the card contents are stored. That is true if the media was ingested using FCP's own Log and Transfer. If the conversion was done with other software, the clips wouldn't have a Reel Name at all; you'd have to add it by hand.by derekmok - Café LA |
