Hdcam re-edit. Digitize as ProRess Hq or 4444, or something else? - 11 years agoDirector/producer has decided to cut a scene out of his movie. It is on HDCAM. What codec should we use to cut out the scene, ProRez/Uncompressed. The show originated on Canon Mark III. All the music has changed too. So I'm getting new tracks, and will cut scene and conform MX at the same time.by Ethan - Café LA Re: Aspect Ratio Madness - 11 years agoYou might try dragging a single clip, from a bin to a new timeline, and answering yes to change specs. ...and then pasting your old timeline to a new one. use shift + command drag to overwrite. Also using compressor is a good suggestion and making sure you look at the preview window.by Ethan - Café LA Can I use flowmotion to replace a black frame? - 11 years agoCan I use flowmotion to replace a black frame? I have Motion 4, it is a Red One Show and theres this 1 black frame in the middle of a take like some flag dipped or a hand passed over the lens. It is a single frame though. Is there some way to get flowmotion to create a new frame between the two. Doubling up one frame seems to make something look a little snaggy.by Ethan - Motion Re: Flickering/Stuttering Playback From Timeline - 11 years agoI've had this problem on and off, I've got an 8 core. Thing is it stared today, and I did a preference trash recently.by Ethan - Café LA Re: Audio Viewer Bug - Bizarre - 11 years agoFortunately things play correctly in the timeline, hopefully this doesn't translate in into the OMF.by Ethan - Café LA Re: trouble rendering - 11 years agoIt is possible you have stills that are too large. OR... Out of Memory message is about video memory, not RAM, in my experience. There is a definite bug with the lower end video cards in MacPros. If you have a Matrox Box, turn of video out. Try re-connecting the clip, this works for small things here and there. Select and in and out and render smaller pieces. It looks as if it is mp4, and is just uncompressed for the downstream. Their stuff seems just suitable for Internet use.by Ethan - Café LA Re: Audio Viewer Bug - Bizarre - 11 years agoThis is footage from Red one, transcoded to ProRes LT. Sound is second system, no idea what. Stereo 24 bit 48 kHz Stereo. That was mated with picture using pluraleyes.by Ethan - Café LA Re: Audio Viewer Bug - Bizarre - 11 years agoOops correction, NOT Succesefull, problem reverted. same clip.by Ethan - Café LA Re: Audio Viewer Bug - Bizarre - 11 years agoProduction sound is all WAV. Trashing preferences and wav cache was ineffective, reconnecting clip was successful. Thanks,by Ethan - Café LA Audio Viewer Bug - Bizarre - 11 years agoI tried searching for this but I'm having a hard time even describing it. In few enough words to construct a search. I double click a synched bit of audio, to edit it in the viewer. And the audio loaded into the viewer doesn't match. It seems to generally be the head of the take. There will be in and outs marked, but they are in the wrong spot as well. The take plays correctly in the timeby Ethan - Café LA When downloading stock footage from Videoblocks which is better? - 11 years agoWhen downloading stock footage from Videoblocks which is better? Am I getting better quality downloading their Jpeg.mov, or am I going to squeeze more out of their mp4, when I transcode it. Or is it going to be pretty much the same Shhhhh-stuff?by Ethan - Café LA Re: best job board - 11 years agoMandy Sucks, Craigslist "Gigs," is better then the $500/month B.S. on Mandy.by Ethan - Jobs Re: Suggestion - Separate NLE Forums for LACPUG - 11 years agoMy sentiments exactly, the major concern would be every other new person that posts will need to be chided. If there where a way to force a check in a box to choose an NLE before creating a thread. That would be optimal. But that's probably not possible with the forum software without some cu$tomi$ation. grafixjoe Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > My 2 ceby Ethan - Café LA Re: FCP 7 Omf export size limitation - 11 years agoYou can turn off tracks, and export them in groups. I try and break them up by Pre-dub, this offests the annoyance to Sound of having to import more OMF's (Actually NO BIG DEAL). Production is always the biggest and might require 2 or more passes. Depending on a few variables. # tracks, bit size, reels. Annoying yes but a doable work-around.by Ethan - Café LA Re: Batch Converting DNxHD to Prores - 11 years agoI have DR compressor repair utility, and it does help but...my experience with compressor and Qmaster has been WAY way more bad then good. I'm sure its my machine, but I haven't for years now been able to make it work consistently or reliably.by Ethan - Café LA Green line synch anchor - 11 years agoHow do I re-assign which clip the green drop down line anchors too. Its attached at the back of a music cue and I need it attached at the front of the music cue.by Ethan - Café LA - X Re: large AVID project into FCP - 11 years agoIf you've ever worked with AVID, I can't see why you'd avoid it. You should just take this as a paid opportunity to get back to it. I can't see any of these solutions taking less than a day, and including transcoding perhaps multiple days. Two days of cutting tops and you'll be well in the swing. At this point I cut everything in anything but FCP7. At least cut in premeire, which can use aby Ethan - Café LA Re: 23.98 in 29.97 needs reverse telecine for editing. - 11 years agoResolution: I guess the take away is next time, go out and buy an internal BR burner/player.by Ethan - Café LA Re: 23.98 in 29.97 needs reverse telecine for editing. - 11 years agoIts really hard to grok what the BR player is doing. There is a setting for 24p output out of the HDMI, and there are some different resolution flavor settings. 720p and 1080i, I don't know if the i in 1080 for resolution means interlaced (it doesnt in FCP7.) Matrox Mini interestingly doesn't seem to have a setting for 720p 23.98. it has 720p 29.97 though, does that make sense? It is an external player, so mpegsave myasstoomanytimesclip, isn't going to work. Gave myself a good scare there, that I hadn't recognized SD. I used the QuickTime file save. I thought I could just use marks and save as, thanks Derek for pointing out the copy paste step. I had punted with just an export from FCP. And when the blueray was made they they did it at 29.97. So now I'm cutting a trailer, and I want to use the color corrected final mix footage, and the Blueray is the only non-tape, version of this. HQ and 4444 at 720 and 1080. Working in a 422 timeline. One of the things that worked was re-connecting footage. I think Sparks recommended it to me. I ended up Shift command drag copying my timelines into new sequences and that took care of a lot, not all of it. Thanks for explaining that relationship to the icon in the Bin. Its a freeing explanation. Now that I've "mastered" the dozen ways to trim and learned two of the 3 title tools, and become comfortable with the 5 modes, I can start addressing the seemingly myriad filter interfaces.by Ethan - Avid Media Composer Re: Opinions on this OS, please - 11 years agoYou can get FCP X for free as a 30 Day Demo, the same with Media Composer, and I don't know if the cloud has an intro month too. But seeing as your using FCP5, I'm guessing your a basics kind of guy. And premiere has FCP shortcuts built in. Making it more FCP then FCP X, in some ways. So that really may be the way to go.by Ethan - Café LA Simple Marque Question - 11 years agoOk I found the button to see graphics. I'm making titles, but if your making title cards you are also changing title cards. It seems to change a graphic I need to create a whole new graphic and replace edit it in. Is there a methodology to change a credit, and have it update what was already cut in?by Ethan - Avid Media Composer Re: Media Composer Titles--Green Newb Question - 11 years agoIt will be featured at the next LACPUG meeting.
